Becker: Fed Has Transcended to Another Level

Since posting random articles seems to be the cool thing to do today. Boris Becker compares Federer to Michael Jordan, Pele, and Muhammad Ali. Would this be the Mount Rushmoore of sport?

Muhammad Ali. Would this be the Mount Rushmoore of sport?
Muhammad Ali is not comparable to these men, and they are not comparable to him. No way is Ali the greatest boxer of all time, the things he did and said outside of the ring have added to his legend, and made him larger than life. You can't say the same things about the other men. I'd also question putting Pele (or any footballer) on the list given how massively team based it is, but given it's the worlds biggest sport it's tough to argue against.

Yeah. Boxing wasn't even a global competition when Muhammad Ali reigned. And agree as well about team sports.

Why can't Boris just clam up ? Does he have to make announcements everyday ?

First JMac about Nadal, now Becker about Fedr. *facepalm*

Bar Jordan (although that's arguable) the other two are debatable. Ali was an incredible boxer but its the mythos around him since the early 90s which transcended him into a universal hero. Pele was brilliant but as someone else mentioned team sports are so hard to quantify. He is certainly the most well known figure in football history and I'm not quite sure how that came to be, apart from his footballing ability.

Boris trying hard to "stay relevant" as they say by coming out with these blinding insights every few days. Doesn't wish to be totally forgotten :(

Jordan and Federer have similar legacies for their sports, but imo Federer is a better in the contexts of their sports.

Well you want to keep it to individual sport.

Tennis, Boxing, Track, Swimming, etc.

As much as we want to do the Jordan & Gretzky comparisons, outside of celebrity, they are not apt.

Now, is Federer the Usain Bolt of sprinting? Arguably yes.

I might go with Usain Bolt as the Usain Bolt of sprinting. Federer can be the Usain Bolt of tennis, instead.
