Being a fan of both Federer and Nadal

I've seen a lot of posts on here, where one is a fan of one person but not the other. And that's fine, I can understand it. I think it gets a bit crazy where people are hoping that Federer will lose the French Open so that he doesn't do what Sampras couldn't.

Sit back, watch these two create Tennis history, yes even better then Sampras and Agassi, way better in fact.

However here's my feeling. Now I am definitely a fan of both, but when the two play I have to say that I am cheering for Federer. However, there are things I want for Nadal as well.

I'm glad Nadal won Wimbledon, I wish Federer had won it once more first, to be the only male to win 6 in a row, but I certainly wanted to see Nadal win Wimbledon.

I obviously want Federer to win the French Open, it'll give him his career slam. And if he wins Wimbledon he will join the Nadal, Borg and the others to have won the French Open then Wimbledon in the same year. But I will also be hoping that Nadal wins the US Open. Even if it's this year, because I don't see anyone anytime soon taking the record of 4 wimbledons and US opens in consecutive years. And Nadal is too good of a player, and too hard of a worker to not get the career slam.

It amazes me how fast so many people jump the gun and say, Federer's done, or Nadal's done because of the loss of a big tournament. yes they have both held the #1 and #2 ranking, but they aren't robots, no one can win all the time.

Think about this, with the exception of the Australian Open of 08, no one other then Federer and Nadal, has won a slam final since Australian Open 2005.

And when they've made it to the final, no one has beaten them, except each other. Think about that, it's insane, they've only lost to each other in a Slam final. If they played anyone else they won the slam. And if Federer does win the French Open both of these things continue.

I like both. Don't know why such rampart fanboy-ism is so popular nowadays, it's so stupid. Just enjoy the friggin' sport for crying out loud, for what it is. No need to pick sides as if it's World War III.

I appreciate all of it except for the "way better" than Sampras and Agassi bit. It shows a lack of historical understanding.

Have you watched those two play in their primes?
