I'm very happy Britain won the DC and I really like Muzz, but it's tough to say he played as GOAT when he played guys hardly of top notch caliber. Most players would have easily beaten Goffin and the other dude, let's face it.

Wow, I'm guessing you mean most top players. Goffin is, after all, ranked #16 in the world!

It's absurd for Castle to claim Andy is the greatest player of his generation when he has 2 majors and the other top three have 10, 14 and 17 respectively.

I'm sure he meant to say greatest British player of his generation (which is hardly saying a great deal) but admittedly he does get a bit carried away on flights of ecstatic fancy from time to time! ;)

The real loser this weekend is Tim Henman-- I always liked him, but skipping DC? Come on...

Yeah, I fear dear old Tim has shot himself in the foot there and come across as a bit of a wuss.

Who wanted that? Don't tell me you meant ISIS/ISIL. I doubt they give two ****s about the DC. They probably didn't even know it was happening.

They knew about an Eagles of Death Metal concert in Paris..

Anyway, incredible rollercoaster ride from GB, still can't believe they did it.. Hard to believe it was only a couple of years ago they were fighting it out in the Euro/Africa group 2 playoffs to avoid dropping down to the 3rd group with the likes of Andorra, Moldova etc..

Andy Murray takes almost as long as Rafa between serves, doesn't he? It's something I've noticed before. It's just everyone is so fixated on Rafa they sort of glance over other repeat offenders like Murray and Sharapova.

Lol. Andy bullying Jamie! WTF? Jamie is such a *****. I'll never let a younger sibling make me his ***** anywhere talk less of on national TV. Andy's like "get back over there!" and Jamie obliges. :D
Actually that the incident with Jamie was quite amusing, Andy explained after the match that Jamie was in his eye line and as he knows him so well it would put him off if he saw an anxious look on his face, he wanted him back on the GB bench so he did not have to look at him, Jamie however was totally obvious and was munching on a snack without a care in the world
Anyways well done GB I think they deserved it! the belgies put up a good fight

GB were expected to win and did. Belgians fought well. The doubles was crucial to the win as it effectively made Andy, who is head and shoulders above everyone else on court, the deciding factor. If it went to a deciding 5th rubber Wardy against Bemelmans would have been unbelieveably tense and also amazing for the neutral viewers.

That's a tribute to Leon Smith's great coaching. He has succeeded as Davis Cup captain where none of his post-war predecessors had. This win for GB is as much his as anybody else's!

Couldn't agree more, I'd always thought of the captain as a ceremonial role for ex players. To see the influence he's had, he's totally changed my opinion on that.

I remember watching the first round in hospital with my grandma (massive tennis fan who played mixed doubles at Wimbledon in the early 1950s). She died in March, such a shame she didn't get to see what the team pulled off this year.

He certainly showed good sportsmanship, but it's amazing how amazing the winners can be when they are your winners.

Of course there's bias towards the player one supports. It's an oxymoron to insinuate otherwise.

I mean those who wanted the Davis Cup final called off after the security issues in Brussels following the terrorist attacks in Paris. And how daft must Tim Henman feel in deciding to stay away? He will now be thinking "Why wasn't I at the venue when Britain won a Davis Cup in my lifetime, despite having initially planned to be there? Because I gave in to fear".

I don't share you opinion at all. He took safety for him and his family first. How can you blame him for that? There are lots of crazy stuff going on.

Why did Murray play in 3 of the 4 games?

How unfair is that

How unfair that countries like France and Spain can put out DC squads full of Tsonga, Gasquet, Llodra, Monfils, Nadal, Verdasco, Ferrer and Lopez whilst GB and Switzerland had to rely on Murray and only until 2013 Federer before Stan morphed into Stanimal in 2014.

In the circumstances, I can understand him leaving his family behind but he could have come on his own. The team were brave enough to go. Why wasn't he?

Can anyone explain why Michael Lodra was sitting on the bench with the Belgian team? He seemed to be wearing their outfit but he couldn't have been part of their team, could he? He is French, not Belgian and, as far as I can tell, he doesn't have dual nationality or anything?

Stanimal is a top 10 player since 2008. Outside France and Spain no other country had/have such a strong "second gear". Not to mention that he is a decent doubles player something you can't say about the likes of Ferrer/Gasquet/Simon/Monfils. Switzerland on paper had the perfect team in 2007-2014 with Chuindeli being a decent substitute.

If only an English player actually played and won a match.
Even Edmund was born in South Africa.

James Ward famously beat John Isner in the opening rubber of the quarter-final tie with the USA. He is the only other member of Team GB to win a singles rubber this year.

Congrats to Scotland. Amazing non-sovereign country.

And maybe particular congrats to one particular Scottish town, Dunblane although we shouldn't overlook the contribution of the team captain, another Scotsman, who took Team GB from being on the point of relegation to the very bottom tier of Davis Cup competition (Euro-Africa Zone III) to winning the tournament itself in just 2 years! :)

True. Congrats to Dunblane & respect to Goffin & Bemelmans.

I read in a newspaper that Llodra was working with the Belgian team to prepare them for their doubles match.

I've just realised that Team GB were unseeded in this year's competition like Switzerland were last year. The 2010 champions, Serbia were also unseeded. It seems to be fairly common for unseeded teams to win the Davis Cup, at least in recent years!

in my opinion, GB go lucky....if they lost the Doubles,,,, I think Belgium would have taken it in the 5th rubber.... Belmarans was very very impressive against Murray and he would have taken inexperienced Edmunds in the 5th rubber....................

Everybody knew the doubles was probably going to be crucial which is why the Murray brothers were determined to win it. Given that they are an experienced doubles team (with titles and other DC ties behind them) are you trying to say they were lucky to win? o_O

Nostradamus's "IF" are always far fetched, for instance

If Andy had to play Novak today , he would have lost and Novak would have won for Belgium.............

Also if Murray brothers played Bryan twins yesterday, they would have lost in straight sets. and Belgium would have won

Nostradamus's "IF" are always far fetched, for instance

He's a strange guy. He doesn't appear to want to give anybody called Murray credit for anything! o_O

Why, for instance, does he assume that the Murrays would have lost in straights to the Bryans? Given that Jamie and Dominic Ingot took the Bryans to 5 sets in the first round against the USA and only lost the 5th set 7-9, why does he think he would have necessarily done worse against them with Andy as his partner?

Watched the championship point again and just noticed Kim's (Aussie Kim that is) reaction

All credit to Kim for supporting her country, but I can't believe she thought her boys stood a chance, especially by match-point. I know Murray turned that point around in fabulous style, but she has watched tennis before. It can't have been that surprising to see a Murray lob land in.
