He is as tough mentally as they come he has the Alcaraz mindset. Obviously not as talented.

His slice BH though is excellent now and on grass that's a huge advantage. That serve is a monster. And the FH is spitting venom. Whoever beats him wins the title. It won't surprise me if he won the whole thing even if it is Sinner/Djokovic and then Alcaraz. Shelton one of those guys who when he is hot could beat the best in a row. Then lose his next 4 first round matches .

After his RG clash with Raz, it became evident an aggressive player with a powerful serve like him would be extra dangerous at Wimbledon.

Unfortunately for the Italian sinner, he's on his side of the draw.

I hear you and thats part of my point, he has lost his last two slams to Sinner and Alcaraz on their best surfaces and been competitive for at least a while so he learns alot from those experiences. Maybe a slam too early here, but he is going to be a massive threat in New York this year and i think he could win there.

He absolutely looks improved, looking more consistent off the ground.
With that said, he hasn't played the best of competition so it's hard to guage how far he's come until he plays a top guy. Played very well against Alcaraz at the FO though, Sinner is tougher simply because he's the freaking Terminator against anybody not named Carlos Alcaraz.

As far as his attitude…I’m willing to cut him a break for a couple more years. Being brought up in the college world, that cockiness is almost bred into them. It’s going to take a bit for him to tone it down to an acceptable level.

he's improved all-around, but i think a sinner or alcaraz will just eat him up off the ground. as for goran, he had a pretty solid game, a little shaky on hte forehand side but had all the shots. and while shelton can serve harder, i'd argue goran was a much more effective server...hit his spots very well. in fact, that's what i'd like to see sheton improve on, more consistent toss and carve those angles more. he hits some monster serves, but also curls too many into opponent's strike zone... many of goran's first serves were like 5 feet from his opponent even getting a racket on it.

Shelton’s got the big-game mentality. He plays his best tennis in the biggest arenas and on the biggest occasions. I think his return game and baseline shot tolerance are always going to be too limited for him to win a slam, but it’s nice to see a guy who genuinely rises to the occasion (relative to his ability). Can’t call him a choker or an underachiever.

I could see him causing Sinner some trouble here but not winning.

In the end, yes. But at age 22? I don’t think he served that good that young. And Goran’s backhand was a liability most of his career. He got by on his serve & forehand, which in his era, was enough. Most surfaces were faster, and a lot of tournaments were still played on carpet, so he could hide the backhand, just like Roddick.

I’m not saying Shelton is going to take down Sinner or Alcaraz at their best, but that he’ll need help, just like Goran did when Fed beat Pete, and then Henman beat Fed. And Rafter beat Agassi. If Goran meets Pete or Agassi along the way, he sits with 0 majors.

I agree that he's going to need a few more years on tour before he'll seriously compete for a major title, but I'm not aware of any "experts" saying he will go downwards after the age of 29. Where did you hear this?

Agreed. It was just very strange to watch how "little" Sinner did. It got especially obvious, since I was court side that day.
Sinner is good at winning with minimum effort, which is a sign of a champion.

To sum up: I don't think Shelton is ready at all and I highly doubt he ever will be.
