Ben Shelton Press Conference | 2023 US Open Semifinal

there is a direct correlation between the lawlessness, disrespect and all other problems in the world (Especially America) and the downfall of fundamental Christian religion and lack of ethics and morals instilled in the home. .. Thats obvious

I mean we saw what happened to Rome. We are headed towards a clear downfall in western society, You would have to be blind not to see it. Many places in America you can't set foot in there is so much lawlessness

Comical comments but even beyond that, they simply don't have anything to do with tennis.

The idea that the US is especially lawless and your thesis about Christianity is particularly laughable given that the US is off the charts when compared to the other wealthy OECD countries in terms of practicing Christianity.

This is all extremely basic information well known to anyone who has actually looked at comparative studies instead of fantasizing with his chatroom buddies.

But again, having this discussion here is absurd.

It would obviously help. I'm not hugely religious but there is a direct correlation between the lawlessness, disrespect and all other problems in the world (Especially America) and the downfall of fundamental Christian religion and lack of ethics and morals instilled in the home. .. Thats obvious

How do you think the Czech Republic is doing?

Maybe you are right.

Not just Christianity, in general religion helps humans to have some morals and respect for people around them, thats why these religions were created in ancient times.
Absence of any form of religion and pure atheist mentality eventually leads to nihilism in society, total chaos. Selfishness takes over, everyone becomes so self centered that they lack empathy and respect for people around them and it gets worse with every generation. End result is anarchy.
You and this Sergi clown are so brainwashed you can't see up from down. I was going to ignore these posts but there's so many of them I can't take it anymore. I'm an atheist and every atheist I know is an outstanding person of unimpeachable character! For one thing, you don't declare yourself an atheist unless you have done some deep thinking and introspection and soul searching. Why don't you go ahead and name a whole bunch of American atheists that you see in the news doing immoral things. I will wait here. In the meantime I guess I could put together a list of all the Christian child molesters liars and cheats we see in the news nearly every day. Just STFU with these kinds of comments in a tennis forum.

You two blow hards have got to stop watching Fox news, OAN and getting your fake news off of Facebook.

That is not what I meant.

First of all, Atheism is a good concept because at least people won't fight in the name of God and God in itself is not an attention seeker that wants humans to be obsessed with it, so even if you don't worship there is nothing bad in it, so yeah atheism is good in some ways, plus studies have also proven that atheists kids are less selfish than theist kids.

Secondly, what I meant to say is that atheism will lead to nihilism anyway because majority of the human race (around 70-80%) is irrational/unscientific and incapable of thinking rationally or developing morals without the fear of God. You remove the fear of God and public will become more chaotic. You tell me, why is atheism only 10% globally ? Why are 90% of the public worldwide theists in this 21st century when it is so easy to not believe in god ? Infact most people globally arent even following their religions properly and yet they are violent, selfish, lacking morals. This doesn't mean atheists are bad people, they are good like you pointed out, it just means that atheism is incompatible for majority of the crowd worldwide. I am speaking in a global perspective, not restricted to USA alone. I don't live in the USA and the people I meet daily I find them worse than their parents are in terms of morals and their parents were more religious in their times, so I am confused on whether the new gen is capable of being moral or not?

Finally, I disagree with both atheists and theists on their concept of God/religions, it is a bit inflexible. I am a bit agnostic in nature who is open to the possibilities of higher dimensional beings being our gods/angels/deities.

Anyway, this is my last reply on this issue (I dont want to derail this thread) as this is a tennis forum, this is not the thread to discuss religion vs no religion. We could open a topic in the ODDS & ENDS section to discuss this further if required. Please tag me there if required. :giggle:

i think he put up a better match against djokovic than medvedev did

Shelton is reckless but if he reigns on his game then he can prove more dangerous against Novak than Med/any 90s gen ever can. Whenever Shelton came to the net on many occasions he seemed to finish the points swiftly with Novak unable to do a thing. That youthful energy & his serve can be harnessed to beat oldies. Proper coaching could make him unbeatable.

No I'm saying it's a different type of arrogance.
Federer made comments about Novak his ENTIRE career…only now is he coming around to paying him a compliment. After his 2011 loss at the US Open Federer called Novak’s absurd return on match point “lucky” and then doubled down by challenging the interviewer who asked about the confidence it took to go for that shot. “Confidence? Are you kidding me?“. Roger had his prickly moments, as well…

Did you watch the Medvedev Alcaraz match? Daniil played some of the best tennis I have seen in recent memory. I just think that Novak problem solved beautifully and Daniil is stubborn. He did not adjust…if his strategy doesn’t work…he doesn’t deviate.

Revealing press conference.

At 2:19 Ben Shelton defined Djokovic as No2 player in the world. Imagine if he plays against Nadal (as an example) in AO2024 and refers to him as No130 player in the world. Should Djokovic, Nadal and Federer be anything else but Djokovic, Nadal and Federer? .
I didn’t listen to all of this but my take away. Imitation is the highest form of flattery referring to Nole’s phone hangup. It wasn’t imitation bruh. He was mocking you. Djokovik can compete at a high level. You didn’t know that already? 23 slams ring a bell? Lol:-D

I watched this a few days ago and thought Ben spoke well as he usually does, but it seemed he was trying to project or maintain a certain image as being the new cool kid on Tour. As a star college jock, tall, well spoken, he no doubt has been pumped up by his peers from a young age and probably carries a pretty sizeable ego around. He certainly brings some spark to proceedings though and we need that in the sport, which I say as someone who finds Ben's on-court antics pretty irksome. If he can keep himself grounded he should develop some interesting rivalries. His comments about Novak here had a somewhat dismissive tone to them which he may want to dial back a bit in future as it will only make his opponents more fired up to beat him. Of course, if he starts beating everyone, then anything goes. But if not ...
