Another noob who thinks he'll talk himself into relevance. He'll be back to the Challenger tour faster than he does anything significant on the ATP tour again.
Not sure, it's from twitter. Is this real?
Incredibly stupid thing to say
But I don't think what he said in the OP was that bad.
Not sure, it's from twitter.
It will help him with nothing.Kid's got spunk. Dunno if he'll ever become a solid top player, but this kind of attitude may help him collect some scalps.
The Alcaraz gen may yet entertain us.
If someone's gonna challenge the top dogs, a cocky bigmouth seems more likely than, dunno, a Casper Ruud?It will help him with nothing.
I thought this, too.Maybe Ben Shelton feels he was in the control of the match just like Djokovic felt against Nadal and Federer in 06-07 period.
We'll see if the arrogance can be backed up even though there is a 16 years age gap.
Seems this was misreported slightly.“Okay, I may not win this match. But I want this guy to know—I want the crowd to know—that I’m here to play. And that I’m going to be back,” he told GQ.
“When I woke up that morning, I felt the nervousness in my stomach, just knowing that it would be the biggest match I’ve ever played,” he stated.
"I think the two weeks as a whole was a good run for me. A lot of positives to take away for the rest of the year and going into next year. It was really fun playing my final slam of the year here and doing well in front of the American crowd. That's pretty special for me," he said at a press conference in New York.
"Yeah, not the outcome I wanted in the match [against Novak Djokovic]. Some things to be disappointed about in the outcome, but a lot of positives to take, too. I'm just really looking forward to getting back to work and getting back out there," he added.
"I want this guy to know that I’m going to be back" - Ben Shelton looks back on his defeat to Novak Djokovic and his US Open 2023 performance
Ben Shelton had a memorable run at the 2023 US Open, where he became the youngest American semifinalist in 30 years.www.sportskeeda.com
I don't see the problem. Shelton's got game and may become a big champion.
They can't all say "It will be a privilege just to walk out on the court with a legend like Novak".
It's pretty bad to have that attitude when he's never won a single ATP event. He's not good enough to take it to the top players. Swagger when you win something, Shelton.Part of me likes his attitude and that he wants to take it to the top players
Right
When players say that (Ruud), we call them soft.
We love Holger Rune's brashness but not Shelton's and there seems to be a lot of "know your place" in here. Sad how obvious the racial/cultural bias is to an outsider and yet most people are not aware of their own thoughts.
Nobody cared about Rune until he won an M1000.
Who's "we"? A number of posters, myself included, dislike RuneWe love Holger Rune's brashness but not Shelton's and there seems to be a lot of "know your place" in here. Sad how obvious the racial/cultural bias is to an outsider and yet most people are not aware of their own thoughts.
Typical stupid american fighting statement.....“Okay, I may not win this match. But I want this guy to know—I want the crowd to know—that I’m here to play. And that I’m going to be back,” he told GQ.

So you're literally suggesting that anyone who prefers Rune to Shelton is a racist? But I guess we're "not aware of our own thoughts..."We love Holger Rune's brashness but not Shelton's and there seems to be a lot of "know your place" in here. Sad how obvious the racial/cultural bias is to an outsider and yet most people are not aware of their own thoughts.
Wrong.A slam QF and SF with nothing in between and he's already on the cover of GQ. Team8 working overtime. To be fair, he fits a dream profile for those in the US : Bi-Racial, American, Young, Decent-Looking.
He could be the ATP's Raducanu, just without the actual slam to back up the big deals, and infinitely more annoying to a lot more people.
Not everything is about race.Right

Some people are just unlikable.
Tiafoe and Monfils.True, the race card is almost always false. We are likeable or unlikeable based on our personality, not race.
Look at Tiafoe, nobody dislikes him, everybody likes him. This is despite he being a fierce competitor on court, yet nobody is annoyed with him. However Shelton seems to have rubbed people the wrong way and to make things worse his dad is also fuelling him.
Please, stop making sense. It's all about the agenda, not the truth.Everyone jumping on Shelton because of the thread title and OP needs to read further up the thread. It is a misquote.
He is still young. He needs to learn to talk less and let his tennis skills do the talking for him.
Or, if he wants to keep talking, let his tennis skills keep pace with his utterances.
He is still young. He'll learn... (hopefully).whats funny is the talkers cant walk and the walkers dont need to talk...
Meh, Djoker has done the latter plenty of times.look at this ****ing idiot celebrating going 1-0 up in the second set
