Bent elbow in forehand and two handed backhand = success in tennis !!!

If you want to win much more matches your elbow should be bent when you take the racket back, when you are hitting the ball and after the stroke. It works for everybody. There are players like Federer, Nadal or Dimitrov who hit the ball with straight arm but they can do it because they are physical monsters. With bent elbow you can adjust to the ball even if you are not in the right place. Your elbow can be used for rotation.
Bent elbow not only in one handed forehand but also in two handed backhand.

You can see it all in this video.

I wonder if talk tennis community can show some dignity and avoid responding to trolls, waste of time threads that do nobody any good! Can we start with this one?

I think (as with all things) it has a lot to do with the personal preference. Most of my forehands/backhands have a little bend in the arm. Always hitting with a straight arm at the rec level will wear your arm out.

This point is absolutely legit. I'd say, straight-handers would apply The Bend if jammed. However, there's the flip side: correct spacing is still very beneficial for bent-arm guys, and solving the spacing issue exclusively via more bend and tucking elbow into ribs actually hurts.

If you say that it is matter of personal preferences it only means that somebody just got used to play with straight arm. He would play much better if his elbow was bent.

There are high level forehands with both straight and bent elbows.

It can be useful to start research with a search for pictures. Click on picture to go to the source website.
Google: forehands ATP pictures

Look at high speed videos. Straight elbow - Federer. Bent elbow - Djokovic. Do you have a model forehand?

If you experience any elbow pain, maybe like Golfer's Elbow, GE has been associated with the serve and forehand. I believe that the bent elbow and your particular technique may be an issue. ? Stop stressing the elbow especially with tennis and see a well qualified Dr.

Straight arm works only for very strong players(Federer, Dimitrov, Nadal). Most people playing with straight arm cant generate good rotation.

I think I do ok.

You would be much better player if you played with bent arm. Today some amateur who for years paid for lessons of tennis changed the grip and began to play with bent arm after my advise. At once he began to play on much higher level.

Cool story, bro!

Don't be such a cynic. Amazingly, I too was part of such an experience today, except it was the other way around. Today some amateur who for years paid for lessons of tennis changed the grip and began to play with a straight arm after my advise. At once he began to play on much higher level.

Your arm shouldnt be straight (like an armbar) or tucked on your side like headlock. There is no definitive way to do it, its base on the person.

You always want a little bit of bend on your elbow or it could actually break. My coach broke his on a serve return.

We all know that there are very good professionals who play with straight arm. Does it mean that both methods are good ? No. Advantages of staight arm can be used only if you are extremely strong person. For all others straight arm means less rotation and more errrors caused by not being in the right place at the right time. Bent arm allows you to adjust to the ball even if you are late and you can easily generate rotation. You can see bent elbow in the first video.

You know if you split step you could be in position with your feet and not need to adjust.

I think that we established before that split step usually is a waste of energy. It is effective only on high professional level.

It sounds like you are advocating mediocrity since you admit high level players split step and the best forehands are straight arm.

So you are encouraging people to play at a lower level like yourself.

Even with bent elbow you can split step is there is necessity. If you are a very strong person then not only you can play with straight arm but you can even stay on one leg and dance at the same time.

I assume you are also opposed to any sort of physical training and conditioning to get stronger, faster, and more balanced.

This injury is a clear sign you hit with a bent elbow.

I think I hit with a bent elbow, the body figured out what should be done. Not any thing I think about. Its just the way I hit.

First time I injured my wrist 17 years ago because I used it as a hammer to hit in the blocked metal doors. Last week I injured it once more because I was testing new grip in two handed forehand.
