I am loving Berdych's game ever since I saw his play Agassi at this past USO. Stop the presses printing that no one has the game to stand up to Federer. Once Berdych establishes some solidity in his game, I think we can have ourselves a rivalry.

Berdych has a game suited to all surfaces. His smooth, penetrating groundstrokes and movement are adept to the slower surfaces, but that is where his patience and experience lacks. His serving power and streakiness in his game should do just fine on grass, which makes me think a breakthrough at Wimbledon is inevitable and that Federer's reign there will not last forever.

The kinks I spot in Berdych's game are his consistency and prone to getting overwhelmed by the moment once he gets there.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks for your responses...

Berdych probably has a future in the game, but it's too early to tell. Hey, for one round, Mueller looked like he was a world-beater -- there's no reliable way to tell if they've peaked or are still on the way up.

Berdych - looks exactly like a girl.
Worrying.

Look at that avatar man, that is a girl. Its that hot chick off that tv show "Federer's Little Bi*ch".

No really, i have nothing against Berdych. He played very well to beat Fed at the Olympics last year. But I am serious, Fed maybe reaching his prime now, but its like a plateau, he'll be on it a while. Berdych isn't a natural athlete, just has very good tennis skills which he gets by on.

I actually think Berdych is the most likely player of the his age group, after Nadal, to become a slam winner/slam finalist in the near future. I dont think he will challenge Federer on grass though, none of the rookie group(Nadal, Berdych, Gasquet,
Monfils, Djokovic, Verdasco)will prefer grass as their favorite surface by any means. Streakiness is not neccessarily rewarded on grass, agressive shotmaking is yes, streakiness is not. More than any other surface one or two points can determine a set, so a few loose shots out of nowhere will not serve you well on grass.

I think Berdych has a suitable game for grass. Big serve, big return, simply potent strokes, and graceful movement. He aims for the lines which is an asset on grass, but Federer has that uncanny ability to make you play one more shot which would lessen Berdych's chances of attacking.

I just happened to come upon that loss of Berdych. Could I get a brief recap of that match? I believe Berdych gave this year's French Open champion a long day of work on clay this year, but why such a dismal dismiss to Federer?

I did not see the match, but Federer was probably charged up to play Berdych since Berdych beat him at the Olympics, and Roger atleast gave the impression of caring about the Olympics(although I am always skeptical when it comes to tennis players and the Olympics). If he was not motivated by that, he atleast was wary of him, which makes him that much harder to face.

Berdych has lots of room for improvement in consistency. Once he gets that down, only then begin to conjure up the thought of contending 'consistently'. As you can see, consistency is the word here.

So far nobody

R Fed at the moment has no rivals on the horizon that I can see. A very few people mamange to beat him once, but a repeat performance never seems to happen. In order to have a rivalry you have to win, something no one can seem to achieve with any consistancy. It would be nice to see him challanged, but at the moment it is wishful thinking.

Rival to Federer?
Joachim Johansson deserves a mention.

i dont think so. big serve and big forehand. raw power. where did we see that before? oh yeah.. roddick. fed´s favourite duck.

Pim Pim is of a different breed then Roddick. Joachim goes for broke on everything, which makes him unpredictable. Like Safin, he is able to beat anyone on any given day.

Berdych

I think he has a lot of raw talent and good potential with a game similar's to Safin. But, as far as a rival to Federer's I already believe that we have on and his name is Rafael Nadal.

(now off the record , This Berdych sometimes look to me like a really hot Chick!) joking..

Haha, I'm not liking the long hair on any guy. Big up to Federer for getting his cut, now only if Haas or Nadal could do the same....
