Berdych's racquet

What is it? Just a paintjob or a new frame?

Watching him play Dr. Ivo in Montreal. It's not quite blacked out. It's got some blue on it.

Interesting little article on it on the atp website. I assume they are talking about Roman from ****, did they spell his last name correctly?

I wasn't saying the article was legit about the actual stick, I was more interested in the fact about how fast he can change over (assuming they actually did change it at all) and how his main concern was the handle and balance. I would think the vast majority of those guys wouldn't even bother to try something new...

Yeah, VS said it right :)

However, I do have 1 question for him: what happened to the shared holes? What a clown...

Not sure if you are getting my point, I totally realize it is just the same frame with a new PJ (I have a 260.2). I remember seeing one go up for sale on stringforum with that new PJ. I just thought his comments on the process were interesting, assuming he asked them to make some changes.

Bad marketing on Head's part but there are tons of players out there who wouldn't know the difference by looking at it on TV. Guess that is how they make money...

Hehe. Speaking of Head players, Cilic is keeping it close with Djokovic.

It just seems that too many Head players endorse the Radical. They need to branch out. :p

Why is Berdych's move to the Instinct a horrible marketing move?
Probably because 200 of us on this forum know the truth, the other 200M tennis players out there believe he's playing with the Instict? :???:

Anyway, I know the Insticts will be selling well in the EU at least...

He did not really move to the Instinct. It is his YT Radical MP 16x19/TGK260.2 with a Instinct paint job. It was a very big deal when Berdych really switched last year from Dunlop to the HEAD YT Radical MP 16x19/TGK260.2 on his own with out a contract with HEAD. Now that he has a contract with HEAD the powers that be have decided to put him in a ridiculous paint job. The IG Instinct MP is like a Babolat Pure Drive (a wideybody design with variable beam width and a 100sq.in head size) where as the HEAD YT Radical MP is like a Wilson 6.1 95 (constant beam width 95 sq.inch head size players racquet) only flexible and arm friendly.

Well, whatever frame he's using these racquet companies keep bs'ing us. Head put him under the Radical MP racquet even though he was using a 16x19 pattern the whole time and the mp only comes in a 18x20. Then this year they decided to put out a new racquet and put him under it. Just not a big fan of the lies these racquet companies make to sell their products.

To be fair Berdych was using a YT Radical MP but with the 16x19 drill pattern. The mold was a YT Radical MP mold. He just preferred a more open string pattern that is available from the pro room.

They should have given the Instinct to Cilic.

My impression of the TGK231.3 is that it's relatively stiff though this is from somewhat vague anecdotal comments. Are you saying that this is a fairly flexible frame?

It is not as stiff as that IG Instinct. Furthermore the molds are not the same as the IG Instinct has a larger head size, a wider beam width that is also variable. Where as Cilic TGK231.3 is the same exact mold as the MG radical MP but with a 16x19 string pattern. It would make as much sense as Berdych with his YT Radical MP 16x19 TGK260.2 being painted as the IG Instinct.

If I remember correctly TK231.3 has flex in the LM Radical range 64-65...

I tend to focus on flex as that's a major issue for me. I haven't
studied the molds. I think that there are complaints about the
differences between Pro Stock and Retail frames and one of the large
factors is stiffness. Frame size, string pattern, etc. are also
factors that are discussed but I think that the difference between 98
and 100 square inches is minor.

Other major factors are static and swingweight. Clearly the finished
Pro Stocks and Retail frames usually diverge a lot. I don't think that
there's much you can do about this.

Thanks for putting a number on it. I'm glad that I didn't pick one
up - at least for hitting.

You don't have to study molds. The IG Instinct MP MOLD and the MG Radical MP MOLD are nothing similar. Also There is no HEAD "Pro Stock" Mold that is currently exclusive to the pro room.

Divergence in swing weight and static weight in a finished "pro stock" and retail is because that is what was desired by that particular player. There is quite a bit you can do about it. Also there is quite a few players that at or below stock retail specs.

Would it be possible for you to use the quote button at the bottom right hand side of the post?

I've been posting on electronic forums since the mid-1980s and am used to the Usenet-style quoting which predates PhpBB by at least a decade. The old-style quoting also works better for those that read forums without the graphics and formatting that you see on the WWW. TW apparently has a version with just basic text mode (no graphics, pictures or layout stuff) and reading the PhpBB tags is a bit of a pain in that mode. It would also be the case if you were using something like Lynx as your browser.

I also write many of my posts in emacs which does the Usenet-style quoting for you. I then paste back the stuff from emacs into TW and other PhpBB-style forums.

Right so it's just to difficult for you to click on the "Quote". I got it.

In the text version, there is no "Quote".

Hi movdqa, could you clear this up for me? I'm looking at what I think is ONE frame, the Youteck Radical MP. I'm seeing "TGK" and "YT" and two different sets of numbers bandied about as well (231.3 & 260.2). Need help sorting this all out--thanks.

Well, I'm not an expert and I've been fishing around for info on these frames too and it is hard to come by. My only personal experience is with the 238.4 and 260.2. I find general information hard to come by.

Are you looking for the retail frame or a Pro Stock or just a listing of the various models with the YT Radical MP paintjob? The 231.3 that I've seen is used by Cilic. Berdych had it with the 260.2. Maybe Tomic too? I think that Murray uses/used it with his PT57A too?

VSBabolat could probably say more definitively.

Let me clarify for you...BOTH...

Cilic uses the Microgel Radical MP, 16x19, or TGK231.3. THe TGK231.x is the MG Radical MP Mold.
Berdych uses the Youtek mold, which is 260.x
The TGK260.1 = 18x20 YT Radical MP (just like the retail). The TGK260.2 = 16x19 string pattern.
