Berrettini Can Still Surpass Sinner

I believe in Berrettini and think he can become the Italian GOAT, surpassing Adriano Panatta and Flavio Pennetta. Sinner will be his rival in the Italian GOAT race but let's not forget that Berrettini's runs at the 2019 USO and 2021 Wimbledon were epic. IMO his 2019 USO SF result and 2021 Wimbledon F result were as impressive as Sinner's AO title. The Berretta pushed prime Rafa to a 1st-set tiebreak in his first ever Major SF. Then he managed to win the 1st set against prime Djokovic in his first ever Major Final. Berrettini is still on the comeback trail from injury but once he gets his ranking back up, he should make deep slam runs again.

Berrettini still has the following advantages over Sinner:

1) Better Serve
2) Better Forehand
3) Only player to ever have defeated Alcaraz in 5th set of a Slam
4) Better-looking than Sinner
5) More syllables in his name than Sinner

Really like the last 2 points. Solid points

It's close. Berrettini is taller than Sinner, which is massive. Height is a key metric of goatness. Height trumps Sinner's world #1 ranking and 3-0 edge in big titles, along with his 2-0 edge in the HTH record. However, Sinner has a much better birthdate.

This is a tossup right now. I'd say that Berrettini has the edge now, due to height. But Sinner's future looks a bit brighter. I think that Sinner can one day catch Berrettini.

I forgot about height - that's the #1 stat for greatness on TTW. For example Alcaraz is never given his due on this forum on account of his tiny stature. No matter how many slams he accumulates, he can never surpass the Big 3 since he is shorter than all of them.

I don't see how Berrettini's performance vs Djokovic at 2021 Wimbledon F is any less impressive than Sinner's performance at AO SF. Berrettini took a set against an elite version of Djoker who ended up 1 win away from the CYGS that year. Sinner only managed to defeat the worst version of Djoker who lacks any top 10 wins this season and was playing terribly at that AO (he even lost a set to Pigeon Fritz the round before!)

I can’t argue with any of those 5 points.

Yeah Wimbledon 2021 was so epic, I don't think he managed to hit over a single backhand, everything went into the net except his mediocre slices. Crazy stuff indeed

It's not as ridiculous as it might seem, but it's more 97% on Sinner falling off the face of the earth and 3% Berry finding his previous form.

Berrettini is done. He should have won the Wimbledon he took a lead on old Djokovic who wasn't even playing that well that day, but completely blew it on his own accord, typical of Generation Suck 1, 11, 111. He has been done and dusted awhile. Sinner has already easily eclipsed what is even possible of Berrettini's career, and probably what was ever realistically possible, even in the current all time worst field.

Well done. This post took enough effort that we have to take it seriously!

That's why TTW is the best tennis forum !
WHAT??? You mean it's entirely possible that somewhere out there, in the never ending cosmos,
there may be another tennis forum? Maybe through a black hole, there's an exact twin of me reading
about Berrettini. But, are we both real, or only one of us?? Surely, even the "Twin Paradox" can't explain it!
I know, I know,... if I recklessly cross the wrong edge of the "Minkowski Space," I may not be home for dinner.

2. Better forehand? Not at all now. I would take Sinner's FH to Berrettini's.

Sinner FHP 12.3 Berrettini just 3.1
