Have you seen Gonzo's forehand good sir....

His forehand is very good but it is not a candidate for the best on tour now, let alone the best ever. He swings so hard it makes it look harder then it is, he contacts the ball to late, and too early that it releases alot of the power before he actually applies force to the ball.

You posted this in the WTA reoahand poll thread as well. Make up your mind, NadalBoy.

lets just exclude whatever nadalgirl has to say cause we already know her opinon.

they are a lot of great forehands out there. i cant see giving to anyone else than federer, it was hard to vote though. sampras has one of the bes running forehands.

agassi can move you round the court with his and can blast sum good returns. it is a real toss up. but i have to give it to fed-ex

I guess its ais possabel Federers forehadn is the best ever only beasduse the rest of his games is no gdood. His backhand is poor, his return is averagea, his movemwent is average, his serve is avderage, and his volley is poor, and his mental toughesn is poor. So he has toea have an awffuly great forehadn to win anything since the rests o his game is not good at sall.

Currently: Roger Federer, James Blake, Fernando Gonzolez, Fernando Verdasco.
This is dismissing the fact of the amount of errors some of these players make, but when going all out these are my tops.

Jack Kramer

he built his whole game around a forehand and serve. We get the notion of "percentage tennis" from him as well.

When was the last time you saw Fed play? when he was 10?

I voted Federer. But the thing is technology has a big deal in forehand power, control, spin ect. I've never see films of Tilden playing. I'd like to see some though

Big Bill Tilden, huge forehand and a monsterous serve to boot. Combine the atributes of Federer, Roddick and Sampras and you have Bill Tilden.

Not at real time speed, but great.....even with the one foot on the ground rule.

As for Kramer and percentage tennis.....read "The Art of Lawn Tennis" by Tilden. He talks percentages a lot back then (1921).

Between Federer and Sampras, and I give Federer the slight edge. He can do more with it. But I'd rather have Sampras' forehand since it required less effort, he just flicked that monster forearm and the ball went flying.

Federer. I think the original question was not meant to see who has the most power out of their forehands, but who has the most versatile.

I think Sampras' forehand is overrated. Both Lendl and Laver had better forehands than Pete. This poll is geared toward Federer. Most people voting haven't seen Lendl player let alone Laver. It's possible that Federer's forehand is the single greatest stroke of all time.

I have never seen anyone hit a forehand like Federer. So versatile and hard to read. If you give him a mid-court sitter, the point is over. He can go both wings with in-point accuracy. He can go forehand to forehand with anyone all day long

Federer has the best forehand today.
Agassi has a wierd, but good sound while hitting the ball.
Nadal is ok because his "uppercut forehand" is unconventional, but most of his shots are topspin and I only see him hit the ball on the baseline

It must be Federer. Now is the era of the forehand evolution.
The game is now totally different because of this new forehand.
Federer is the best of all now and thus best in history.

The kind of things players including Federer do to the ball with
their forehand is unprescedented. This new forehand practically
removing the need to volley. "The forehand" is the name of the game
now...

I have to say Agassi. His forehand and the way he took the ball early, on the rise revolutionized the game and he strikes the ball cleaner than Federer or Sampras. Federer has god control on his forehand but that's about it. I see nothing spectacular with his stroke. His mechanics are textbook, head down, elbow tucked but it's not explosive kinda vanilla to me.

Ah yes, Segura. In his time, Segura's two-handed forehand was the single deadliest stroke in the game. Kind of like the equivalent to what Federer's forehand is today.

Prior to 'Segoo', Little Bill Johnston's western grip forehand is said to be deadly. Lendl was the master of the modern forehand. Aaron Krickstein had a big forehand, too, in the style of the Bollettieri-school.

God, this sounds like someone I know........ OH THAT WOULD BE NADAL.

Minus the movement, stamina, and mental game parts.

Hmmm, some have voted Tilden - like if they were born at that time or they were able to remember.
Forget older player, people and tennis has evolved.

Blake and Safin aren't even on the list !

Safin is well known for his blend of accuracy, power, and shotmaking. Although his forehand is very good, it is still not in the league of Federer.

Blake's forehand is just raw power like Gonzo.

federer hands down. smooth, penetrating, precise. the ultimate and deadliest combo in all of tennis. its what federer does w/ that forehand is what makes him unique. he could use it like agassi or nadal and baseline his way through; he'd still win all his matches. but instead, he makes it interesting w/ opening up the court and hitting winners w/ a combination of angle and power

I agree.

The strange thing is currently WTA is just the opposiste in current forehand era. Most top women have erratic forehands, but great backhands.

Does nobody else here think that Verdasco has a killer forehand?? His errors are up but still.....

Roddick has personally said that Verdasco has the biggest forehand in men's tennis today. Verdasco is a lefty to boot. He just unloads on the ball. Very heavy and fast, but of course, with a shot like it, it produces many errors.
