Best Hard Court player of 2010

Is that in the last 12 months or in Calendar year 2010 only?

This is only from tournaments this year. We want to see who is the best hard court player this year, so we should only count the points/results from the 2010 year.

It doesn't really matter - Nadal and Federer did about the same in November '09.

Maybe you forgot, but Nadal scored more ATP ranking point in 4 months than Federer scored all year without setting food on a hard court. Small comfort to say Rog is the best hard court player.

I give you a until the new year tops. You obviously lack the ability to read/comprehend or your troll mind has allowed you to selectively block out key information..... I was saying how I added up points. Now if you want to say I was flawed in my method since I haven't added in all the years points, that isn't really an argument worth listening to. These numbers are non biased, and are the only numbers that can be counted since we are talking about the best player on hardcourt in the 2010 season.

Thanks for the correction, it definitely didn't seem like Fed was more consistent, Cincy helped alot.

Well... except for two tournaments Federer has been at the Semi's or Finals of every HC tourney. Nadal's run of three slams has definitely overshadowed Fed's summer on hard court and rightfully so.

Federer is the best hard-court player of this year, so far. Nadal is a close second, considering he won the US Open; unfortunately, he was not as consistent as Federer.

Exactly

the best hardcourt player of 2010 is the one who got the most points on hardcourts. it is that simple

/thread

Exactly you must take all the preferences and bias out of it. Who has the highest total 2010 points on Hard? Federer - so he is the best hard court player of 2010 (so far anyway - still have November to go).

If you had attempted to read and comprehend in the same way that you demand from others you would realize that, as I said, Nadal and Federer had very similar point totals in November '09 so it doesn't really matter whether you're figuring the last 12 months or the last 10 - it still yields the same result.

Better luck next time.

I wouldn't just "add up all the hard court points" because not everybody would play the same hardcourt tournaments. I would add up the hardcourt majors, the hardcourt masters and I would include YEC if I were comparing 2 players who played in it. I wouldn't necessarily penalize a player for playing 5 of the 6 hardcourt masters since the ATP ranking system only requires 8 of the 9 Masters.

Now go ahead and try to actually read and comprehend this post and let me know what insult you come up with next time.

Cheers!

Let's see..... talking about 09 when we were clearly talking about 10. Shows a lack of comprehension to me. Also, counting non slams and masters only helps Nadal since he has won a 500 and Federer hasn't. Take off 500 and 250 from those point totals.

It wouldn't really matter whether we were including '09 or not when comparing Federer and Nadal since they had very similar point totals in the part of '09 that is 365 days less than now.

What also doesn't make much sense is declaring anybody the "Best Hard Court Player of 2010" when there are still 3000 hard court points to be gained by a player who is on a roll.

Well Federer is the best Hard Court Player so far for 2010 (the points establish that fact). Lets see if he can hold that position over the next month whilst the last tournaments of the year are played.

The only players who have a chance of catching up to Fed are the rest of the top 4 - each of which has a real chance.

Andy Murray would pretty much have to win Paris and YEC to best Fed, but I would consider him to be the most potent hard court threat at this moment so I don't see that as impossible - injury status excepted.

Novak is defending last year's Paris Open and he's healthy, so I wouldn't consider him to be an impossibility.

Rafa is the world's best player, so he could overtake Fed easily in those 2 tournaments.

Rog is the world's best hardcourt player mostly on the strength of his AO win. And, yeah, AO happened in '10, but I think alot of us are a little bit iffy on which season AO should count toward.

Eh? Which season should it count towards then?!

Eh? Which season should it count towards then?!

I can't dispute that AO is the first major of 2011 - but ATP points don't really recognized a "season" and the naming of the Year End Champion is more of a formality than anything else. Points are tabulated on the previous 52 weeks.

AO hasn't always been the first tournament of the calendar year. If you ask me winning 4 in a row with AO being the last is every bit as valid as winning 4 in a row with AO being the first.

I realize that this is off the topic of "who is the best hardcourt player of 2010" but that is what I was getting at.

Who is the best hard court player at the end of 2010 would be a different question than who is the best hardcourt player "of" 2010. If any of the top 4 win Paris and YEC then I give them the nod - especially if he wins a Davis Cup championship on top of that.

You don't think getting to the semis or final of every hard court tournament after Wimbledon also help to solidify his place as the best hard court player in 2010?

No - I don't think that "every hard court tournament" of 2010 has been contested yet.

Novak, Rafa and Andy Murray have similarly all had extremely good 2nd half of the season hardcourt results.

'Cept Novak and Rafa both did something that Fed didn't do for a change - didn't they?

I agree the tournaments that haven't been play have not been counted. :???:

Say Rafa does win Paris? Would that make his HC season better than Federers? Same for Murray and Djokovic. The only way Nadal would pass Federer would be to win Paris and the WTF. Even if Nadal wins Paris his HC season still won't be as impressive as Federer's.

Murray winning Paris and WTF would not make him have a better hardcourt year than Roger. Same for Novak only more so. If Rafa wins WTF and Paris then yes.

Didn't mean to put in Murray and Djoker. Sorry

Why not? If Andy Murray wins Paris and YEC then he is very likely to have my 2010 ATP hardcourt points than Federer. Wouldn't that make him a "better" hardcourt player?

Novak is a little more of a stretch, I agree. He would have to win both tournaments and Fed would have to bomb but that isn't impossible - only unlikely. Plus with Novak I would wonder if you would count his DC points in there somehow.

I would.

You make a decent point. Murray would have around 6000 points from mandatory hardcourt events if he wins Paris and at the O2. Of course, if he beat Roger in the final of both then Roger would still have more.

That slam win for Roger has to count for something too. I'd still have Roger as best hardcourt player of 2010 - but can see your point.

would be a good year for Murray to end with a london WTF. Regardless of not winning a slam.

Would be his best year ever. A slam final and a semi, 2 MS, a WTF and a probable year end number 3.

Lot of tennis to be played before that happens though.

See - I don't see that at all. You argue that even if Andy Murray beats Roger in the finals at Paris and WTF then Roger would still have more ATP hardcourt ranking points so he would be the better hardcourt player for the year.

I'm no H2H nut, but if that were to happen then Andy and Roger would have met in 5 Masters or better finals in 2010 and in that scenario Andy would have prevailed in 4 of 5 but *STILL* you would maintain that Roger was the better of the 2 on hardcourt.

That I cannot agree with.

If Andy wins the next 2 then he will be the best hardcourt player of 2010, hands down. I realize that's a big "if".

Good point, well made - hard to argue against that one.

It's all moot anyway - Murray won't win Paris - although he does have a chance at the WTF.
