Some of the years are close. Nadal might have a claim in 2013, imo. Would have to look into the '13 results more, but this is my impression at the time.
It's been Federer and Djokovic dominating for the most part.

Yep, so looking back at the results, Rafa and Novak can share 2013. :)

Djokovic deserves 2013 IMO. Feels a bit odd considering how dominant Nadal was for much of the year - but Djokovic has an extra slam final on HC and the WTF.

Could be, but I like Rafa's collection of titles better, so I'll split '13 between them.

That may be true for the masters but Djokovic still has the extra slam final and the WTF - he also won Bejing, I don't think Nadal had any other HC titles besides those masters and the USO.

Man, it's not official or anything, :), but if it's ok with you, I'll split 2013 on hard courts between Rafa and Novak because a) Rafa won the titles he did which look better than Novak's later in the season imo, and b) because he beat Novak in the USO final which decided who won 2 Slams for the season.

...do what you want. I'm just discussing it with you  If that's your attitude then I'm not sure I've got anything more to say to you.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Come to think of it Nadal won more masters on HC as well. I'll stick with Djokovic due to his achievements being significantly greater and his slam win having a much tougher draw :D

Rafa the King

09 can't be Fed since he didn't win AO, USO, WTF or anything for that matter besides Cinci.
Rafa had: AO and IW with finals in Rotterdam and Shanghai as well as SFs in USO, Cinci and Paris. Up to WTF Rafa was W-W-QF-QF-SF-SF-F-SF in big HC tourneys
Delpo had USO and finals in WTF and Montreal

2010 and 2013 Nadal.
Actually it's very possible that neither of these goes to Nadal.

2010 goes to Federer quite convincingly.

2013 goes to Djokovic. HC slam final + WTF title. That should make up for 1 less masters 1000.

2009 may go to Nadal.

NatF

2009 should go to Nadal IMO.

2013 should go to Djokovic.

Level on HC across the whole year could go to Federer for 2009. By the same token you could give Nadal HC in 2013. Achievements wise it's Nadal and then Djokovic though.

Anyone saying federer is best hardcourt player in 2017 is seriously deluded. Nadal is miles ahead on hard courts this year. It's simple, won a hard court major was runner up in another. Nobody comes close. Also he has accumulated the most wins on hard court now.

Of course Nadal career hard court excellence really stings the Claydal brigade.

2017: Federer (provisional, more likely Nadal by year end unless Federer wins WTF)
2016: Djokovic/Murray

2004: Federer
2003: Roddick
2002: Hewitt
2001: Hewitt/Agassi - this is a very tough call tbh

Anything before that becomes much tougher to call because there was less consistency in results.

Debatable.

Nadal was undefeated on outdoor hardcourts. The USO in 2013 was where it was all on the line. Majors are the be all and end all for the players.

Fed not winning a HC slam hurts him. You can't be the best on HC without a slam. Same reason why Nadal wasn't the best on clay in 2009 and Federer was instead.

Actually it's Nadal who needs to win the WTF to jump ahead of Fed on HC if they both fail to win the remaining 2 masters 1000.

Maybe. But anyway, I really think Djokovic didn't deserve to be called player of the year. I don't know on hardcourt, but overall Nadal was the best without doubt. Djokovic just won the last few tournaments and this is what people remember in the end.

He made both finals and frankly Nadal's level on HC was poor in the second half - got bodied at the WTF.

Federer was 36-10 on HC for the year, Nadal was 42-12 both at 78%. Federer was 9-9 with the top 10 and Nadal was 6-10. Nadal of course went 0-3 at the WTF while Federer went 2-2. So their records on HC were pretty identical in that respect. Of course winning a slam and then reaching a SF in the other is better than 2 finals. I'm only given pause because Nadal got beaten so thoroughly by Del Potro.

Like I said I think Nadal achieved the most that year - and quite clearly, but I think Federer was a little more consistent and better across the whole year.

Well I do have Federer ahead at the moment because of AO-IW-Miami and the Montreal Final, but he needs to play all the remaining events and win one of them to be the clear winner in this category.

Djokovic is not "called" Player of the Year but was awarded the title 2013 World Singles Champion (Player of the year if you like)
It's not expected from broken record to know which criterion ITF is using to determinate Player of the year -World Singles Champion
FYI During the season player who achieved the most at Grand Slams and DC (Events that ITF as governing body runs in tennis) is awarded Wold Champion title

Year 2013

Djokovic
AO W 2000
RG SF 720
W F 1200
USO F 1200
Total 5120
+DC f 370 he won all of his 7 single matches
Grand total 5490

Nadal
AO dp 0
RG W 2000
W R128 10
USO W 2000
Total 4010
DC dp

Hope it's more clear now, and that you learn something from this.

It's pretty close between Federer and Nadal for 2017 now in the light of Rafa's win today, but Fed is 3-0 up on Nadal h2h and the season win't over. They both have a Slam each on HC, no?

On further investigation, 2009 goes to Juan Martin Del Porto on HC as he leads Rafa Nadal 3-1 on hard courts with wins in Miami, Canada and a 6-2 6-2 6-2 demolition of Rafa in the US Open semi final prior to beating Roger in the final.

If you just want people to agree 100% with you, then fine.

If you don't want to hear an even slightly different view, gtfoh.

Your reading comprehension must legitimately stink man. Another reason you should GTFO :D

I don't need you to agree me, I was giving some info to support my opinion - I called it as such (e.g. my opinion) the first post I aimed your way. You took my polite 2 line posts as me trying to ram my opinion down your throat for some bizarre reason. I was trying to have a friendly dialogue. Then you started acting weird af.

You must be fragile. Guy sends you 4 innocuous lines on a message forum and you can't take it. Do you need some warm milk? Maybe someone to wrap you up in cotton wool and tuck you in?
