Best inexpensive string?

Under $5.00...I break strings every other set, looking for something good less than $5.00. I've found a few that I've liked and have good reviews...
Wilson Extreme Synthetic Gut 16g
Gosen OG Sheep Micro 16g
Gamma Synthetic Gut 16g
Anyone else?

gosen og sheep micro is great
i live by it

trust me
its the best 4 bucks youll ever spend,
unless of course you buy the reel for 35
then thats the best money youd have ever spent

I prefer 17 g. But I have tried all the strings mentioned so far in 16g and, FWIW, I might suggest trying Ektelon PowerPlay. For reference, I use Wilson PSC 6.1 95 and am not a string breaker.

The reel of og is best for the money. But money should not be an issue. Buy your own stringer, and your own string, and use the best string you can get for your stick/game. String is the soul of the racquet, and if you stick with cheap, your game may suffer.

Thank you for attempting to be our fatherly figure :p

I use Gosen Micro 17. Cheap, but great nonetheless.

There you go. Cheap and great in one package. Who said free wasn't good?

But this string for me breaks in an hour or two, 12.7 oz stick, 330g swing wt., heavy shots off both sides, kick serve/flat/slice, all court attacking player.

i get the reel for about 35 bucks, 17gauge. plays quite nice.

same. TF Ematrix is good as well. The only knock is its durability. It'll turn you into a string breaker no matter your level of play.

you could get a poly lux and it would last you about 3 weeks. I break nylon strings every other set also (tecnifibre 315) and i use a poly main and synthetic crosses. and it would last me roughly 10~12 sets.

Wilson extreme synthetic gut! For some reason I cant see why playes pick PSG or sheep micro over this! its great!

If you don't mind trying 15L strings, give Prince Topspin 15L a shot. I am really impressed with it. For a string that costs below $6, it has excellent playability and durability. I string it at 58-60 lbs, and it doesn't seem to move too much. I still have Tecnifiber X1 Biphase on one racquet, so I can compare the two until the X1 breaks... I have to admit, the difference is not all that much. The 15L is about 6 grams heavier than the 16g Biphase, and has a hair less control... but nothing that a good whack with lots of topspin won't fix! :-)

Absolutely useless string - don't even know why it is sold - it falls apart after 2 hrs of play. In the end it's more expensive than VS gut.
You might as well buy gut, you will save on stringing time.

I tried Prince Topspin 15L at 63lbs on my ps6.1. I think it is good for baseline hitting for a workout. I would not rely on it to win a match against players at my level or higher. I found difficulty getting a good feel for the ball for touch shots, like drop shots, topspin, angle shots from the service line, and half-volleys.
One of my hitting partners is happy with it as a baseline camper.

Zverev, the TF EMatrix is a good string for some people. I have strung a lot of it for women over the past few years, and many bring their rackets back after 6 months to be restrung. Some of these women play 3-4 times/week. Often the EMatrix still feels tight and with little wear.

Now, I'm not recommending that a chronic stringbreaker use it. It's not for everyone. But, it is a great string for some.

As for the original poster, why not buy a reel of Polylon ($30) and a reel of OG Micro ($30). If you don't string your own, give your stringer 20 feet of the Polylon for the mains and about 19 feet of the OG Micro for the crosses. It should last you a bit longer now. If you've been comfortable with what you have, you may need to drop the tension of the Polylon/Micro hybrid by 3 or 4 pounds too.

Agree. I bought a few packs because it was cheap and hated it. The string actually broke while the racquet was in my bag between matches. I pulled it out to play and it had snapped, right in the middle of the bed and I am a n a l when it comes to not leaving my racquets in the trunk or sitting in a hot car. I'll bring them in to work with me if I have to go right to the court after work. I won't even string my wife's racquet with it because she hated it too.

I'm a huge fan of the OG sheep reels. If you're a string breaker try that in the crosses with Gamma Poly Xtra 18ga for the mains. Good cheap string job that lasts.

If you're a string-breaker you might want to try a poly - Ashaway Monogut is cheap, pretty easy on the arm, plays great, and lasts - even in a thinner guage.

You have to decide whether the Wilson Extreme is $15 better than Gosen's OG Sheep Micro, and $8 better than Babolat Super Fine Play, in my opinion. But I would choose the same string you have; even if its durability is slightly less than the other two, the improved power and feel of the Extreme is worth it...

I love natural gut but favorite inexpensive string set up is Prince Tournament Nylon 15L in the mains and Wilson Extreme Syn. Gut 16 in the crosses. Nice crisp set-up. Good durability and playability. Gosen micro is good to, but I prefer the Wilson Extreme Syn.

Is there a combination of strings one should use with the Wilson extreme synthetic gut 16g like this polyon/micro hybird?

BTW, Mr. Steve Huff, your post was very enlightening. I appreciate the compact but enlightening answer.

I am becoming a string breaker, and now really have to consider buying my own stringer!

I'd try a thicker gauge and/or string savers before I'd opt for any poly, if I were you. And even then I'd first try out a nylon-poly blend like Prince's Lightning Power or a poly-multi like Tecnifibre's Promix.

Do your arm and shoulder a favor, would you...

Gotta Be

Prince PolyGut durable, hits nice i use the 17g kinda arm friendly but i am used to polyester so give it a try at like 52lbs 1st i string mine at 60lbs

I think Prince Polygut is it durable, and SORTA arm friendly.I string mine at 60lbs with the 17g nice string!

Gosen [Sheep] Micro

A few people say Gosen Micro, some say Gosen Sheep Micro. I've searched and threads go back and forth between their similarities. I ordered 8 sets of White Gosen OG Sheep Micro 16g, and the string is labeled Gosen Micro Japan 16g, but I read a thread saying their Gosen Micro was labeled Gosen Sheep Micro Japan 16g...

I'm confused
