[IMG] This week I've picked up a Javelin Midsize (not the split throat sadly but still a good looker) from Finchley for a fiver. Grip is original, strings likewise, weighs a ton.

Also went for a stroll from Fulham Broadway up to West Brompton and picked up this Head Microgel Radical Team 102 for £20 (few scrapes on the throat but unmarked around the bumper once the muck was wiped off) and a Wilson Hyper Pro Staff 6.1 Silver W for £15 (manky overgrip and a couple of nicks but otherwise perfect). I know my Heads but have never played Wilsons - this one any good? I considered a Prince Thunder 820 which they had for £15 but I wouldn't play with it and don't care about resale value so if you're interested, it should still be at the back of the British Heart Foundation on North End Rd. [IMG]
And just for the twaron fans, this was the club pro I picked up for a fiver down in Wimbledon and regripped a while back. Still yet to hit with it.

I've gone most of the winter without finding anything, then recently I've found several, all prince for some reason. Maybe they came from the same person but got spread around the thrifts?
    1. Prince CTS Synergy DB26 midplus
    2. Prince Graphite Pro 110, from early 80s I'm guessing
    3. Prince Comp 110, certainly early 80s, stamped DEMO of all things.

The DB26 feels great in the hand, I'm most looking forward to hitting with that.
The Graphite Pro 110, though it has a huge head, just huge, feels great in the hand, doesn't feel large.

Hey guys! I think I scored well today... found a brand new Wilson Pro Staff 6.0 85 Chicago version, never used, never strung, bumperless, with original casing! The butt cap code is G01.
It's a beaut! Had to share this one!

That seems higher than the average thrift store score. But still a score, nonetheless! :)

Where did you find something like that with that sort of price - in a thrift store? It certainly wasn't Goodwill as it would have been 2.99. An amazing piece for 29.99.

Picked up a Pro Kennex Black Ace 98 bumperless old type for $1. It's in good condition and has the original leather grip. It's also a 4 1/4 which I prefer.

Head Lite Tour 630, made in Austria. It's not in a great condition, but I always wanted to see if it the lite version would play as nicely as the Pro Tour. It does, even with ancient nylon strings :)

    Huh, finally fixed the link...

I bought two graphite/fiberglass Kramer pro staff frames off Craigslist today for $10 each, they are both in fantastic 8.5 condition ! One of the fairway grips is pretty faded but the other is nice. The only downside is they are both 4 5/8ths grips which may make them harder to sell if I decide to get rid of them. Nice frames though.

Thrift stores are hit and miss. Today I went to the most "miss" one of my regulars. They specialize in ladies clothes and basic housewares. They almost never have sports equipment. Today I went to the back corner and the were three POGs in cases. The full cover case had a four stripe that was used by someone the liked to it the ball when it was two inches off the court.. Next was a 3/4 head cover case, it was a "digger" too. Last 3/4 head cover was a one stripe with tape on the head. Peeled the tape and it was perfect, not a single scratch! It had never been used! Brought it up and gave the cashier $5 and the tax and smiled all the way home.[IMG]

I put an over grip on it because it is a 1/4. Is ok with the over grip.

What's the best way to get the tape residue off? Thanks.

I went to a handful of shops today and completely struck out. I was telling my daughter about this retro basketball duffle bag I saw and she insisted we stop and get it on the way to her practice.

I agreed and when we walked back to get it, they'd just put out a 4 stripe POG 110 in nearly perfect condition for $2.99! I got out of there with a very cool basketball duffle bag and a classic for $7.50!

Private flea market store. I passed on the puke green and white Pancho Gonzales Spalding in minty condition and the 1994 VIP US Open jacket, $10 ea. I did pick up this very nice and little used Davis straight as an arrow in Sears & Roebuck press and the neat tennis clock. $25.00 total.

After having scoured practically every bloody charity shop in North London over the past few months, I finally hit a bit of a jackpot this week. The door was still swinging shut behind me when I spotted a couple of 80s Prince's on the wall:
    (Stringing guide still attached)

Pleased with these finds (and merrily disregarding the fact that I have made a habit of slagging off prince rackets whenever possible), I greedily grabbed a faded Dunlop 200g off a nearby shelf in the lowest rent impulse purchase going:

Sated, I turned towards the counter to pay for my hoard that I was starting to eye up with a more discriminating, cost-conscious eye. Happily for these rackets, that same eye then alighted on the bargain bin in the corner and specifically on the unmistakeable rainbow cover of an old Donnay.

Brand spanking new, which in all fairness could not be said to its bin-mate:

Struggling by now under the weight of half a 1983 pro shop and already regretting the hike to the tube to come, I gave the bin's occupants one more cursory stir. There were three remaining rackets - the first, a Maxi jaques or something which I discounted and which someone will now tell me is the tennis equivalent of the treasure of the sierra madre. The second was a Yamaha so some curiosity value there. When I unwrapped it though, what a beauty! Again, obviously never used, with its spotless cover and grip still in the plastic. Any info on this one would be much appreciated:

And the final racket? The final racket was also borne by DeLorean in mint condition from the 80s, its caramel grip a prisoner in plastic, never having breathed that sweet London air (ahem), its silver cover resplendent and nary a cord of nylon ever having troubled its frame. With all due respect to the round I got in for 15 people in a decidedly iffy student pub in Nottingham many years ago, this was the best tenner I've ever spent.

Cackling maniacally in a way that led to stares and wide berths being given in equal measure by my fellow shoppers, I pressed 40 quid into the palm of the bored shop assistant and strutted out of the shop feeling like a champ and, with this hodgepodge of racket handles sticking at all angles out of an ambitiously small plastic bag, looking like a total bellend.

I figured. I'm just a smart aleck. I really like the look of the frames of that type.

A short list of the ones I'm familiar with are the Prince Woodie, Dunlop A Player, Dunlop McEnroe Pro, Head Vilas, Head Edgewood, Pro Kennex Golden Ace, Pro Kennex Blue Ace, and Pro Kennex Graphite Ace.

Found this lightly used donnay ace ('my choice', 'your choice' stencilling above the grip, Bjorn Borg sig on the side, a festival in brown) for a fiver in Highgate. Couldn't find any info on this racket - anyone recognise it?
If anyone is in the area, there's a practically unused AMF Head vilas (with cover) and a vintage maxply (some kind of cricketer in the picture below the head) in the Mind once you get out of Highgate tube and a purple prince CTS mid (the one that looked like it has a Nike air bubble in the throat) in the sense on 7 sisters rd. Otherwise slim pickings around the Highgate, Archway, Holloway area.

They're not thrift store scores (courtesy of the auction site instead) but are included as they were a bit of a bargain:

Evidently much loved St Vincent (AVQ, red primer, 1x midsize, 50-60lbs) for £35 and

Lightly dinged PC600 (made in Austria) for £65.

My friend in thrift shopping for tennis racquets stopped by this past weekend. He brought me a Head Radical (old Andre Agassi yellow and black), Wilson 6.1 Classic 95, Wilson NFury, Dunlop Aerogel 5hundred, Volkl Tour 10 (jr or 26), Prince Graphite Comp (single grommet no bumper version), Dunlop Black Max (rare with bumper version), Wilson T2000 (rare double length grip), Wilson Graphite Aggressor, and a Prince Shark. He buys them and plays them until the strings break. For him, that's about an hour tops as he hits very hard with a ton of spin.

He's given me so many great racquets through the years. When he lived nearby, I'd accept the racquets for payment toward stringing his racquets. I'd make an exception when he gave me a Snauwaert Hi Ten or some other oddity to sell for a large sum.

Since I don't string for him anymore, I sent him on his way with another Dunlop Black Max and two Head IG Radical MP racquets. One of those was already his that I'd been holding onto for nearly a year since stringing last. I've got three more IG Radicals I hadn't gotten around to stringing to give to him too. They were all either purchased on fleabay or craigslist cheaply for $30 or less. It's a good trade for me usually as I sell to buy more down the road.

Have a few, 3 I think, are they fun to hit with?
    Any string recommendations?
I had one back when I was a Jnr, I'm sure it cracked due to old age.
Sad racket was hanging in a flea market for weeks.
Broken fishing line with no tension, as it was cut out there was no 'pop' at all.
