I have one of these in a teal green color. I read somewhere in these forums that this mold was sold to Babolat.
That’s the story that’s circulated around the internet. If it was, Babolat certainly modified the design a bit when making the original pure drive. About the only thing linking them to the naked eye is the throat bulges.

@coachrick you know who H.R. is?

PK may have allowed Babolat to use a similar mould regarding the way the neck area starts, but they clearly kept ownership of the original version as you can still by new Destiny rackets today. What I recall is that the Destiny series started with 4 or 5 full weight models at the late 80s / early 90s. Then later in the 1990s PK released many further Destinys at a lower weight level. These were beautiful looking with glossy blended paintjobs, but were very much tweener sticks, often available at department stores rather than tennis shops.

Where are you in the states to have 280’s at the thrift??
Washington D.C. suburbs. Trust me I’ve dug through stacks on stacks of crap Walmart racquets, kids rackets, warped and cracked racquets (that people donate after they’ve lost their tempers? Lol). But we’re just posting our decent finds here, right?

At this point I just put everything here. I just counted my collection last night while organizing, I just passed 50 frames for the first time. It’s getting bad lol.

To my knowledge thrift stores actually routinely move their merchandise from one store to another, across regions, poor to affluent areas, affluent to poor areas, etc. I resell for a living; racquets among other things and I’ve found Lululemon and Gucci in the most dirt poor thrift shops. And also come up empty handed in affluent neighborhood thrift stores. Ahhh, the thrill of the hunt.

If my wife ever goes back into the office I can spread out the collection from the thrift stores around the Denver region for a photo shoot.
Is that where I need to be!! Utah has been strikes minus the local classifieds - that I will say is always reliable

Just picked this up at the trusty Play it Again near me, for $12.35 after black friday discounts. A fantastic condition, later model Fox Bosworth decagonal masterpiece, labeled the Aero 210, I don't know how this differentiates itself from the Target 210 that came out in what, 1990? This appears to be the last version before it was retooled into the Bosworth Tour 96.

I had quite a time trying to photograph this in my little studio and capture its good side. I took about 30 photos because I kept feeling like I just wasn't finding the right angles lol. Maybe I did alright but I swear this thing looks quite stunning in person. The fade, accented with the gold squares that harken back to the original thinner box beam Bosworth 210s. The stings, gamma marathons, actually have a pearlescent look to them, which is completely invisible in this light box, they actually look kinda purplish in person in florescent lights.

I had not so much as bounced a ball on this stick before picking it up tonight and playing in the cold against a local D3 college kid. And I actually managed to take a set 6/1 with it! Hits super solid, quite hefty at 362g strung, but I managed to swing it. beam width is about 25mm.

Late 80s or early 90s? With such a relatively thick beam, is it quite stiff?
I found an ad for the Target 210 (which in photos looks identical, minus paint job, both frames are Widebodies and 102in head) which was dated 1990. Like I said, this is only a hunch based on fonts, and Bosworth graphics, but I think this Aero dates from later than the Target. Also based on the later 90s and early 2000s post-Bosworth Fox rackets using the Aero name.

so based on my limited knowledge, I’d say early 90s, as opposed to late 80s.

and yeah it’s pretty stiff, but that’s what they were going for. If you wanted flexy they’d already covered that with the Fox WB 210 Comp.

Guys, I got a question, in your local tennis scene or group, or perhaps at your local pro shop (if you’re lucky enough to have one still), when talking about rackets or tech, do you ever start mentioning your collections or talk about old frames, only to realize shortly that the person clearly just doesn’t give a crap about old tennis rackets? Like, they might be really into playing, rackets and customizing, but if the racket is more than 10 years old they just have no interest in history. I’ve met a few people like that. Always makes me a bit sad. And so far, it’s people older than me! Not kids or anything where you’d expect that sort of thing.

I started having a thrifting schedule (dropping by about 3 different thrift stores and 1 Play it Again every 2 weeks or so) when my old buddy found a liquidmetal prestige at a thrift store for $4. In decent shape too.

I have yet to find anything that good, though I did find a shockingly underpriced original Pure Drive at Play it Again for about $30.

Yes, of course because being an avid tennis player and being a racquet collector are two totally different things. You can’t be upset at your friends for this, just if someone asked me if I was into reading 19th century poetry and I replied no. People have different interests and hobbies.

Sure. Every time I play my regular partners they expect to see and hear about my latest find.
Whatever latest and greatest model someone has there is almost certainly a racquet made 20 years ago that will work just as well for them.

Ok, well the price was right for me to finally pick up one of these things. The Wilson Project Matrix. Still have to pin down what year this came out, I'm guessing some time between 2005-10? I thought this would be a metal frame, but its quite light and doesn't feel like metal to me. weight is 306g strung, and I have yet to hit with it yet. And I can't wait to ask my local proshop to string it up with some polys lol.

Swap out the pallet. It's actually quite easy to do.

I would usually keep my eye out for pallets, ive done an experiment where i put a pallet on my nblade that was a 5/8 and that was fun. Just gotta find a good deal on pallets or get them off some cheap head rackets lol.

Yes, this happens to me all the time. The tennis folks I mingle with are only interested in the latest tech that will level-up their NTRP or UTR. They raise an eyebrow and nod in mild appreciation when they ask what I’m playing with (30+ year old racquet), but that’s where the convo ends.

Head pallets are just a high density foam material and are taped and glued on the hairpin. Wilson, Prince and many others are molded on and cannot be removed without major interventions. I have a number of Head pallets I've acquired through the years from trades, broken frames, etc. Some older Head racquets can be used as donor racquets. I have heard that TW Europe sells Head pallets but I've never purchased from them.

I don't think so. the shape of volkl sides bulge out a bit.

might want to check this thread out...

@djNEiGht , We'll see, just ordered 5 sets of TK82S pallets in my grip size from my favorite UK retailer.
Great idea Graycrait! I just ordered 4 sets (with buttcaps) for 20% less than the 2 sets I ordered from the New York customized last year. Don’t know why I didn’t think of this earlier!

Sorry, I just saw this. No idea who HR is. This was well past my rep days in the mid-'80s and I'm drawing a blank.

Scooped up a Wilson Sovereign Tony Trabert, T.A. Davis Lady Elite, and Prince CTS Approach 110 yesterday for all under $12 American. Racquet hoarding is such a glorious hobby. I put the wooden racquets on my wall and and am going out to hit the Approach against a playground wall this morning.

Nice! I played for years with the Approach 110/OS, I still own a few... I'm lying, I'm a hoarder of that racquet.
