Saw some pure storms, gen 1 pure strike, a k-factor, youtek prestige mp, microgel, but only had enough for one. Will be coming back. Anybody know a good image hosting website so I can send a picture? This racquet is solid!

I wish, I’m leaving state for who knows how long, but I don’t expect people to find that tiny corner of the store. I also saw some old speed’s, a couple of old radicals(graphene) but he had sold his two pure drive lites(2015) and a pure drive play.

What state? I have had no luck at thrift stores recently

I found a Wilson Pro Staff 6.0 95 with leather grip on craigslist for $20 and i bought it! It's in great condition too!
That's a super deal. Especially if the grommets are good since they are virtually impossible to find nowadays!

Yes it is in almost new condition, barely used it. The leather grip is a fairway too!
Is it worth something? i have no idea?

Humblebrag?
I just don't have use for it!
It's pretty much a collector's item. You don't see many for sale in great condition... especially not that cheap!

The problem with that racket is that the way the racket flexes is MUCH different to its 85sq inch counterpart. They were very different rackets in that respect, and many people including myself find it a difficult racket to play with compared to the 6.1 95 for instance. That being said, it's a great racket if you make good contact in the sweetspot!

Sent from my ELE-L29 using Tapatalk

The 85 has a consistent/even flex when hitting the ball, so no "surprises". The 95 has a very flexy upper hoop which doesn't always feel so great when going for hard shots. Affects the stability of the racket too.

I love the 95. Never actually tried the 85. I enjoy the feel the racket has and I personally dont mind the flexy upper hoop.

I like Google Photos, especially ‚cause you can just sync pics from your mobile and easily share the .
With the Tapatalk App you can directly upload pics from your phone.
What I hate to see in the forum is:

I believe more and more with each passing day that you should learn to listen to that "little voice" inside of you when it speaks to your heart!

Yesterday was one of those days [emoji4]

Coming from the dentist, I wanted to go visit a particular thrift store I had never been to, but when I was waiting for the tram to go there, it was delayed by a bit. Instead something told me to hop on my bike, get the exercise and also see if I could visit an old thrift I hadn't been to in years. On the way there, the chain fell off my bike and I had greasy fingers now heading to the thrift store. Nevertheless I was looking forward to seeing if any treasure was to be discovered there. When I passed by the location where the store should be, I saw it was apparently bankrupt or closed, and another store had filled up that location. I was disappointed, but not deterred. Continuing down that same road, I spotted a "hole in the wall" second hand shop in a garage like space in the city. Most of the stuff had been stacked high to the ceiling as an unexpected rain storm forced the owner to keep everything packed away.

On top of all the boxes and bags, I saw a red Dunlop tennis bag. I had no idea what was in it, and I couldn't see the owner of the shop either. I decided to push some of the things aside till I could reach the top of the pile and get a hold of the tennis bag. When I finally got the bag in my hands, I could feel there was something inside, but I never expected it to be so beautiful [emoji7]

2x Dunlop Biomimetic 200 rackets (one in pristine condition) & 1x Dunlop F2.0 Tour!!!

I rushed to find the owner and saw it was a little old lady... had to be at least 75, but still full of energy. I asked her how much she wanted for it all. She looked in the bag and said "give me €20". My normal instincts would have said to bargain her down, but I kinda also felt sorry for her, so I grabbed my wallet and gave her the €20 she asked for. She was very thankful for it and I was happy that I still got a good deal on high quality rackets that are still pretty recent frames. Of course the Bio200 are a bit on the lighter side considering the Muscle Weave and M-Fil versions I have are a good 10+ grams heavier, but a little lead will help that problem I read in many reviews. And while the F2.0 Tour is on the stiffer side according to the specs, I do like the balance of the racket a lot more than the 200 4D Tour I have. That racket feels like I am dragging dead weight when I swing. I also like that this 200 "Tour" is 18x20 instead!

After picking up the rackets, I also listened to that same inner voice which told me to go visit the new thrift store another time and simply go home and enjoy what I had just purchased [emoji16]

bro you made some mundane trip to a pawn shop into a... a TALE almost. are you a writer? i thought I was reading an adventure not a TT post
Haha! Thanks man. I will take it as a compliment [emoji106]

I plan to actually be a writer... someday. For now I am a teacher and a speaker, so I guess sharing stories is part of who I am.

And now that you mention it, I forget to say that, "the moral of the story is" is to follow your inner voice and reap the benefits [emoji1787][emoji6][emoji106][emoji120]

Today a very special purchase for me. 2 Head Arthur Ashe Competition (1st gen.) with original covers. One new and the other in good condition. Cost 20€.
In 1976 one of my tennis teachers (an argentine champion) used this model and I always wanted to have one and try it. If it doesn't rain today I will use it.

Was wondering too. Not sure they exist under that name / form.
I believe “Emmaus” is a common name for the closest thing in Europe. In the Netherlands we have “kringloop”. These examples are more charity/idealistic, less commercial, but the general idea seems similar.

Indeed. "Kringloop" stores in Holland (which essentially translate as "recycle" shops) and second hand shops in Germany. Also second hand shops in France from time to time

I always keep my eyes open in the sporting goods area of Goodwill. So I saw this today with a $3.25 price tag:

And I assumed it was either empty or had some crap warped wood racquet inside. Why set myself up for disappointment? Glad I looked:

I never expected it. I've never even seen one in person before. It's probably an 8.5. Super nice.

Do the St. Vincent Pro-Staffs still go for the high prices they used to about 15 years ago?
I’d guess that one might go for $300. 15 years ago you might’ve gotten close to $1000.

When TW reissued the PS85, the prices dropped. That and no pro was using anymore. Fed moved to larger and larger frames. He’ll probably be playing 107 by the time her retires.

Wow !! For $3 !! Now you can start playing like Pete Sampras.

Just put a bit of lead up at the 3 & 9 o'clock positions, a nice overgrip and some quality strings and you'll be surprised how well this racket holds up, even against modern rackets. My St. Vincent PS85 still remains one of the best rackets I have. You just have to have the strokes which compliment it [emoji106]

While it takes a certain kind of player to wield it, there is a reason this racket stayed on the top for so long and withstood the test of time.

Summing it all up, finding this racket in THAT condition is one heck of a find man [emoji2962] [emoji122]

I have been lucky enough to pick up an old Wright & Ditson, a Birmal, an old Slazenger convex frame and a Streamline over the past few months. Humblebrag, humblebrag, yay yay look at me etc. Unfortunately I have got a little carried away since then with wooden rackets more generally and have been scouring about for other interesting frames. In this endeavour, as with so many other activities, my expertise has been far outpaced by my enthusiasm. Which is another way of saying I have picked up a boat load of wooden rackets of dubious provenance for peanuts and have since been trying to find creative ways of hiding them from my wife.

I think there are a few gems in there though - maybe @joe sch, @treblings and @rodracquet could advise.

A fishtail from an unknown manufacturer, model “The Club”. At a guess, I’d say 1910s or 1920s. Unfortunately it shows some signs of warping and I’m guessing it’s a cheaper frame, as the wedge is unlaminated.

Dunlop Maxplys are obviously ten a penny, particularly in the UK, but I think this may be one of the early/possibly original early 1930s versions of the Maxply Fort (ref p.122 of the 2010 update to Kuebler’s book: https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/read/63274227/update-2010-for-the-book-of-tennis-rackets ). It has the distinctive font and spacing below the triple banded collar which is consistent with the c.1935 version in the book.

Finally , there’s this lovely, presumably early 1960s, Maxply Fort with a Rod Laver photo decal. It took a good while to wipe off the grot left behind once I stripped off the head tape but it was well worth the work.

No worries on the "humblebrag'ing" :)
We need more discussion and post with nice picture attachments of the woody era.
Both Birmal and Streamline are outstanding additions to any vintage racket collection.
The Dunlop Maxply's sure did have a long successful run from the 30's to 80's.
The photo decal models are much more scarce so nice to have some of those.
I have the Hoad version which looks much like your Laver. Those are both highly desired.
I did not know the Keubler update could be found online, was nice to page thru it so fast :)
Regarding that Club fishtail, I think you are right on target with the dating.
I believe I did have one, or may still. I have quite a few diff fishtail models.
The solid wood wedges do make them earlier versions and Im not sure who the maker is.
Pretty sure its from the UK.

In a thrift store in the Denver area today there was a Maxply Fort, a Wilson Chris Evert, a Bancroft borg and a Donnay Borg. I am far from expert but I felt the Maxply was real but the others were kind of signature sort of replica types, nothing a serious player (recreational) would have used. But I am no expert and fortunately not a collector either. I should have taken a pic.

picked up a pretty nice db 26mp today for 2.99+tax. buttcap was destroyed as some cts sticks are, but stole the buttcap from my cts 28, which was a size too small, but oh well. added athletic tape to smopth the edge between the end of handle and buttcap. Anyone know where to get new buttcaps for these sticks without sacrificing another?

I stopped frequenting my local GWs because their crap-to-gem ratio had risen exponentially over the past few years, and because I ran out of storage room at home. However, when these stores began to open again after our pseudo lock-down was lifted, I decided to go back to have a look, because I was curious to see whether there was a 'COVID effect' of sorts on the inventory, whereby donors who were forced to stay home might have taken the opportunity to clean out their closets and attics, flooding the showrooms with interesting items that would not have been there otherwise.

As it turned out, the inventories I saw were surprisingly sparse, and as crappy as ever when it came to racquet selection. One of the stores near me that used to be well-stocked is now permanently shuttered (presumably a victim of the extended lock-down). It certainly doesn't look like there was much of a surge in closet-cleaning during our SIP period; and if there was, almost none of the closets in question appeared to have contained anything of interest, save for one:

1pSMo25.jpg

The RF97 has a 2017 date code, while the Ki Q+5 is a 2019 model. Both show signs of having belonged to the same donor. Would this person have donated these almost-new frames if there were no pandemic? I rather doubt it.

I must say, I had no idea the RF97 was painted in such a strange way - The entire frame was given a glossy paint first, after which the rubbery matte paint was applied to the top and the bottom of the racquet. How did they expect the matte paint to stick to a glossy undercoat with no primer in between?! Given that the glossy sections are so small relative to the matte parts, wouldn't it have made more sense to reverse the order in which the paint was applied?

My first PC600 was a thrift store find. 9/10 condition with only minor scuffs and scrapes. A buddy of mine found a trek font PC600 almost new in a thrift shop.

One of the worst handle designs ever. Not really a butt cap per se. Lot's of folks trying epoxy for the first time. Did I mention the really bad design???

I went to buy a gamma progression 2 602 drop weight machine for 80€, and the owner gave me his old racquets for free. A PC600 in mint condition with head finest calf leather and a pair of I Prestige Mp almost new (already have 3 haha). Another great surprise was the TK52 grommets to fit the PC600 (the one on the racquet is almost new).
I’m quite lucky I must say.
I’ll probably end up selling it because I don’t see myself playing with it on the long term but I’d like to hit with it to channel my innermost Marat haha

My best luck has been with shoes. I've picked up in nearly new condition; Asics Gel Resolution 6, Asics Gel Challenger 8, New Balance 1006, Adidas Barricade 6. It's nice having a bunch of little kids with growing feet, because I feel like I always have a reason to check out the shoe racks.
