Best Luxilon Alu power gauge

I’m a high level high school player with good hands, not an insanely spinny ball and a better doubles players than singles. I like alu power more than any other string I’ve tried but am not sure what gague to order it in. I was just going to go for the 16l but I saw they also have 17 and even 18. What are your thoughts on the difference in feel specifically between the 16l and 17. Thanks

What is your racket?

In general, thinner gauge equals higher launch angle and more spin. Tradeoff is less durability and less playability of the string itself.

If you own your own stringing machine and your parents don't mind investing in a reel, then explore the thinner options.

If you need the string to last a little longer stay with the thicker gauges.

If you can afford it, why not, but you are going to spend a lot of money re-string your sticks
I would go for 1,30

There is no need to go up to 1.30 if you are just doing that for durability. The 1.25 mm is already plenty durable for most people and by the time most people break through it, it has lost most play-ability. If you go up to a 1.30 mm, the extra "durability" time you are gaining is just going to be a dead poly string.

I really like 16L (1.25 mm).

my son was #1 on his HS tennis team and plays with the RF97 using the Alu Power 16L 1.25 @ 56#
and I play with it as well.. good balance of control and power..
and we haven't broken any strings yet..

I would say 16L as well. You don't have to worry about breaking the strings because you lose all of the great characteristics of the strings after about 2-4 hours of hitting anyway. So I would say unless you string your own rackets, look elsewhere.

Alu 125 breaks very quickly in a 16x19 (especially the RF)

It really doesn't. And again, you are missing the point. The playability of his strings are probably going to decline greatly before he even breaks a string.

With serious strokes, 16L alu have a very few chance to survive 2-4hours in a RF autograph! :)

He has already said he doesn't hit a very spinny ball which is the main driver in destroying strings. He will be fine with 16L. The better question is what does his stringing situation look like. If he doesn't string his own racquets or get his racquets strung for free/hella cheap and he constantly needs to re-string, Power ALU is going to cost him a fortune.

Alu Power @ 55 in the RF97. Tried 50-52 and though it would play well for an hour or so the heft of the frame and the open string pattern was particularly hard on the strings. String stretched out quickly. 55lb it stayed playable for me even after the initial tension drop off.

Has anybody tried Alu power in the gravity pro? If so, what tension and how did it play?

Thank you for all the responses. I think I’m going to go with the 16l. I do string for myself and can get reels wholesale.

Same here, I’m at about $9 a frame stringing Alu in a couple of different frames. For that cost and a good 4-6 hours of play it is all good.

I would try kirschbaum proline ll 16g . At 1.30mm it’s the same as Alu power 16l and is cheaper per reel than Alu power . Plus you get a thicker gauge .

Where are you buying your ALU Power from?
Make sure it's authentic.
ALU Power 16L (1.25) is the one most players use.
There is a new ALU Power 1.15 -- I guess the successor of Timo.
ALU Power 16 is 1.30
ALU Power 15L is 1.38
ALU Power Feel 1.20
ALU Power Spin is shaped and that's 1.27
ALU Power Flouro is 1.23
ALU Power Soft is 1.25

I tried the new ALU Power 18 (I guess 1.15), and it did not have the magic in my opinion of the 16L.

I've got this in my Blade at the moment. Was very boardy for the first hour, didn't really feel anything special. Second hour was better, but still not as good as Alu Power Rough that I've used previously. Playing singles again today and will see if it's changed much.

52lbs for the 18 gauge is definitely too tight in an 18x20 Blade imo
The sweet spot seems to have disappeared, and with it, any characteristics the string has other than being crisp
