Best matches of 2022

Half way through the year, but not many great matches to show for it. The US Open Series is our last hope...along with the ATP Tour finals.

Here are a few matches that produced some limited entertainment so far in 2022:

Hard courts:
AO QF - Medvedev v Auger-Aliassime
IW SF - Nadal v Alcaraz
IW F - Fritz v Nadal
Miami QF - Alcaraz v Kecmanovic

Clay:
MC QF - Zverev v Sinner
Madrid QF - Alcaraz v Nadal
Madrid SF - Alcaraz v Djokovic
RG R16 - Nadal v Auger-Aliassime
RG QF - Nadal v Djokovic

Grass:
Netherlands SF - van Rijthoven v Auger-Aliassime
W QF - Djokovic v Sinner

Would you add Tsitsipas v Zverev in Madrid or Rome? Did I leave any important matches out, in your opinion?

Also, most of these matches do not feature the Little 3. They have been shunted aside not only be the Big 3 (who do that to everyone), but also by Gen 2000+ players.

In order for level of play

HC:
Ned-Med AO final, sadly.
Med-FAA
Carlos-Kec Miami QF

Grass:
Novak-Nick Wimby final
Nick-Tsitsi and Ned-Fritz relatively distant 2nd and 3rd

Clay:
Novak-Carlos Madrid semi
Zverev-Carlos RG QF
Nadal vs. Djokovic/FAA in RG

Nadal-Alcaraz in IW wasn't a good match at all in terms of level. I blame the wind mostly. I wasn't impressed by the AO final either. One of the biggest chokes in a Slam final ever, along with USO 2020.

My favorites
- Alcaraz-Djokovic Madrid
- Nadal-Auger RG
- Zverev-Alcaraz RG
- Medvedev-Auger AO
- Alcaraz-Kecmanovic Miami
- Djokvic-Auger Rome
- Kyrgios-Tsitsipas Wimbledon
- Alcaraz-De-Minaur Barcelona

It was not a choke lol Medvedevs level was pretty much good right up until the last game, and he was a bit lucky to win the 2nd set. Should have been 1-1 going to the 3rd. Nadal knew he was right there with him hence staying the course.

It was a choke, Med lost his head just like the last years final. But I can’t believe Nadal won that match, I thought he was injured in real time.

You don't even have Sinner v Djokovic.

Some honorable mentions though, are Isner v Murray, Korda v Nadal, and I think it was Schwartzman v Tsitsipas in MC. Level wasn’t the highest perhaps, but also considering entertainment factor

Dimitrov v Van de Zandschulp was forgotten I think, dimitrov vs Kozlov was certainly dramatic, brooksby vs zverev Acapulco also dramatic, there were a surprising amount in Acapulco actually. Isner vs Opelka to those who enjoy either serve botting or watching paint dry, one TB was 26-24 I believe and both wearing the same clothes, was at the very least intriguing.

What Medvedev produced in the AO 2022 final for a 2-0 sets lead is an implosion unparalleled in Grand Slam finals in the Open era. A player who already had experience playing GS finals, even winning a GS title and playing on his best surface, still lost the final from 2-0 lead in sets. He had enough experience to win that match. The fact that Mad Lad didn't make it is his great failure.

wow

I haven’t even seen thirty matches this year

Bumping thread.

What were the Best matches of AO? (Didn’t watch)

IW: N/A tbh, way overrated tournament
Miami: Kecmanovic v Alcaraz, Sinner v Busta
Monte Carlo: Schwartzman v Tsitsipas, zverev v sinner, any others?
Madrid: Tasty stuff thanks to Carlos. Alcaraz v Nadal and Alcaraz v Djokovic & Zed v Tsitsipas was ok.
Rome: Nadal v Shapo, any suggestions?
RG: Kolar v Tsitsipas, Ramos Viñolas v Alcaraz, Nadal v FAA, Djokovic v Nadal, Nadal v Zverev
Wimbledon: Sinner v Djokovic, tsitsipas v Kyrgios was a madhouse but not a good match, fritz v Nadal was a madhouse but not a good match. Think it’s really just Sinner v Djokovic, the final sucked
Canada: Again pretty let down tournament, Paul v Evans imo
Cincinatti: Shapo v Dimitrov, Nadal v Coric, don’t think I’m missing anything
USO: Sinner v Alcaraz, Alcaraz v Tiafoe, again for best of the year that’s really it imo. Nadal Tiafoe overrated, would rather watch Nadal Hijikata

Thoughts? Any 500 matches that are worth putting in for best of the year?
