While determining the player of the decade may be hard, the best matches of the decade are a more valid thing to rank. What do you think?

    My picks:

    9. Federer d. Murray, Wimbledon F 2012 - This match was a thrilling four sets but the main drama was the stakes involved. Murray with the weight of a 75 year British slam drought on his shoulders, vs. Federer, who hadn't won a slam in 2 years and who many thought he was on his way to retirement.

    8. Djokovic d. Wawrinka, AO 4R 2013- The fist match where the Stanimal truly appeared. 5 long sets of brutal hitting from both players. Stan would ultimately lose this match, but it gave him the belief to become a top 10 player and led to him realizing his ability to play grand slam-winning tennis.

    7. Rosol d. Nadal, Wimbledon 2R 2012- the first and to this day most dramatic early-round upset of one of the big 4. At that time they had an impenetrable stranglehold on the game. Rosol played a truly world class match from start to finish.

    6. Wawrinka d. Djokovic, RG F 2015- This ranks above Stan's AO win because it was just so shocking. Earlier in the tournament Djokovic had done the impossible- defeated Nadal at Roland Garros. His long awaited French Open title was nearly his, but Stan had other plans. Any talk of Stan being a one-hit wonder disappeared after this match. After this win, we truly knew we had a hall-of-famer in Wawrinka.

    5. Nadal d. Djokovic, RG SF 2013- Nadal's greatest contest at RG of all time, a nearly 5 hour battle with his greatest rival where his will to win pushed him through to the end. This match I believe truly cemented him as the clay GOAT.

    4. Federer d. Nadal, AO F 2017- The two greatest players of all time were all but retired at the end of 2016. No one expected this final, and nobody expected the year it would lead to. To see these two legends basically come back from the dead to duke it out in a five set final was mesmerizing. It was also a pivotal chapter in the Federer-Nadal rivalry, with Federer beating Nadal at a grand slam for the first time in many years.

    3. Federer d. Djokovic, RG SF 2011- Djokovic was on a run never previously seen before in tennis. On a run of 40+ wins, many thought he was bound to win the calendar year slam. It was only fitting that Federer, the greatest of all time, would put an end to his run, complete with his famous finger-wag at the end.

    2. Djokovic d. Federer, USO SF 2011- The biggest nightmare of Federer's life. He cruised through the match, winning the first two sets, and ended up with two match points on his serve. The first match point, Djokovic closes his eyes and swings for a blistering return winner. The second one, Federer infamously dumped a forehand into the net. From then on it was all Djokovic, who ended up making one of the most high-profile comebacks from 0-2 down the sport has ever seen. This was the match that showed me Djokovic was truly destined for greatness and that his run that year was no fluke.

    1. Djokovic d. Nadal, AO F 2012- The longest and most physical match of all time, it came at a time when Djokovic had beaten Nadal seven times in a row. Nadal simply could not find a way to beat this man that he had once dominated. It was pure will and determination that allowed Nadal to push this to five sets. He was infamously up a break when he missed an easy backhand winner that would have given him 4-2, 40-0 on his serve. However instead it was 30-15 which gave Djokovic the open to break him, and go on to take the match, celebrating the win by primally ripping off his shirt and yelling along with the ecstatic crowd. Clocking in at nearly 6 hours, the two gladiators needed chairs to get through the trophy presentation.

Off the top on my head:

Almost any match from Paris-Bercy 2010 (an awesome event).

2011 US Open Federer vs Djokovic

2012 AO Nadal vs Djokovic (not great quality tennis but impossible to overlook)

2012 Shanghai Murray vs Djokovic (only really fun match they've played)

    2013 AO Wawrinka vs Djokovic

    2013 FO Nadal vs Djokovic

2013 Wimbledon Del Potro's performance against Ferrer any Janowicz match and the Del Potro Djokovic SF

2013 US Open Djokovic Wawrinka (it was that kinda year lol)

2014 WTF Federer vs Wawrinka (before it got ugly)

2015 French Wawrinka vs Djokovic (only highlight of a super boring year)

2016 Davis Cup SF Del Potro vs Murray

2016 Davis Cup Final Cilic vs Del Potro

I can't really think of any classics this year honestly though I've been absent a lot.

Among the ones OP left out, Djokovic-Del Potro 2013 Wimbledon, Del Potro-Cilic 2016 Davis Cup were excellent.

A Murray match made the list but somehow you left off possibly the highest level of play this decade (Djoker/Stan AO'13)? That match is like tennis crack.

Agree. Better match than the year later in my eyes. Also no mention of Djokovic Federer Wimbledon 2014.
Also worth mentioning other notable matches outside of slams and outside of the big 4/5 too.

I knew we could count on you for a great recommendation. The Djokovic tightrope walk at W 2014 F is one of the modern underrated classics imo. Very high level of play from both players. A deep emotional subtext underpinned the match, and it was historic in that it re-started the belief in Djokovic to start a second mini era of dominance the following year. So much was on the line in that final for Djokovic it is crazy.....

This I agree, perhaps not exactly in the same order. However I would put AO 2017 F Nadal-Federer ahead of Nadal-Dimitrov. That was the best match to date for 2017.

As a British tennis fan, I would have to include the following year's Wimbledon final for the very reasons you stated above ie. Murray finally breaking the 77 year curse of no British male champions at Wimbledon. The significance and drama of that match may be a bit lost on other tennis fans but never in the UK!

    1) GoatDal beating Anderson for a legendary 3rd USO title
    2) Fed putting down a supreme Cilic in straights to get the GOAT grass player title.
    3) Mury winning a legendary Wimby for Scotland(I mean England sorry) in 2013
    4) GoatDal again with La Decima, slaying Stanimal in a Slam final with the loss of 6 games
    5) The Djoker beating PEAK Clayray to win 4 in a row at RG.

So much epicness in all of those finals.

    Thanks for sharing your picks.

Stanimal very much showed up, arguably for the first notable time, against Djoker at AO 2013. It's just Djoker was in his full on superman ultron ludicrous defense stretch armstrong egg mode, so he just about managed to prevail in the end.

Also, describing Fed as having dumped it in the net in the US semi somewhat undersells it. His forehand drive on a short ball actually clipped the net chord before sailing long. When it comes to emphasizing the butthurt factor of that match, please do not pull any punches. Even Hollywood cringed.

No, tennis fans in the UK were bored off their **** mate. That final was an insult to grass court tennis, nay all of tennis. The Andrew castle type 'fan' were all excited I'm sure. Also if a Brit doesn't win Wimbledon that doesn't make it a 'curse'. If that boring grind was what it takes, it was a blessing.

The match was significant but in no way shape or form one of the best matches of the decade, repetitive rallies and a ton of poor errors from Djokovic.

Serena vs Sabine & Mugu vs Venus at Wimbledon are probably the best women's matches. For the men Novak vs Nadal 2013 FO semi.

M Zverev beating Murray at AO. At last, contrasting styles and a contest not built on grinding.

'Fraid you're just talking out of your derriere mate. You're so obviously a Murray hater it's laughable. Everyone and their granny that had any interest in tennis were on the edges of their seats for that match and just erupted when the final point was converted. So stop embarrassing yourself and making everyone else on here laugh by pathetically trying to claim otherwise.

Glass half-empty as usual? There were SOME good points in that match from Andy and Djokovic too you know. It wasn't ALL about Djokovic's errors. :)

That just wasn't a high quality match man. Of course it wasn't all bad but it doesn't deserve to be held alongside the other nominations in terms of quality of play.

Two matches in which ,both players fought till last point n there was hardly any drop in the level of play throughout the match
    1. Djoko Wawrinka AO 2013
    2. Djoko Del potro Wimby 2013 .
There r mny good n great matches but these two tops the list . just my opinion!

Now that I think about it Ferrer-Fish Davis Cup 2011 was a good match.

The 2012 Davis Cup final was great too.

The longest match of the decade?
    Check again;)

I think the AO17 final was fantastic, but as always, recent memories tend to be biased.

Many great matches, usually involving Fed, Nadal and Djokovic.

    -Federer d. Murray, Wimbledon F 2012 -
I'm British so I was highly focused on this match so don't think I didn't tune in or anything. This shouldn't be anywhere near the top 10. It wasn't really edge of your seat stuff compared to the matches I'll name.

    -Rosol d. Nadal, Wimbledon 2R 2012-
The most shocking match of decade, no doubt. But not the greatest. Greatest means two players playing extraordinarily well. Nadal wasn't, so this is on the wrong list.

    -Wawrinka d. Djokovic, RG F 2015-
After the first set it was pretty one sided. And there was not much to it to make it top 10 in my honest opinion. Some great shots. But not great drama as Wawrinka really stopped Djokovic from doing anything.

So the list isn't too bad as I first made it out to be. But some them matches don't deserve to be close to the list that's why I called it a poor list. Especially the first two I mentioned.

    Better matches include:
    Wawrinka-Djokovic AO13
    Del potro-Djokovic W13
    Wawrinka-Djokovic USO 13
Funny how they're all 2013. Nadals year and I didn't chose a single match of his.

This is just my opinion. Other may agree with your list.

If we're just talking about slams, off the top of my head:

2011 FO SF Federer d. Djokovic
    2012 AO F Djokovic d. Nadal
    2012 W 2R Rosol d. Nadal
    2012 W F Federer d. Murray
    2013 AO 4R Djokovic d. Wawrinka
2013 FO SF Nadal d. Djokovic
    2013 W SF Djokovic d. Del Potro
    2014 W F Djokovic d. Federer
    2015 FO F Wawrinka d. Djokovic
    2017 AO F Federer d. Nadal

An easy top 10 list for this decade so far IMO.
