So after all the hype of trying different poly strings I have decided that there is nothing better in this world than a full bed of mutli/synthetic gut strings. For sake of argument price is no option. Wanted to know what are the best multi/synthetic gut strings in terms of spin, lively, and feel/comfort. Some strings that come to mind are Wilson NXT, Wilson Sensation and Sensation control, Gamma Live Wire, Prince Synthetic Gut with DuraFlex, Tecnifibre X-one Bi-phase and NRG2, and Dunlop Silk. Tried Gosen OG Sheep did not like it, but the price is beautiful. Any suggestions or direction would be great especially with the given selection I mentioned above.

unfortunately, I cannot say "price is not an option." Because i have mostly played value strings. under 8$ a set usually. All the poly i've played with is because someone else had a reel and i HAD to try it. Like PHT, BBO, XX Lightning, etc.

My personal best multi is fibergel power in terms of playability. Though the durability is the worst. I'm not a string breaker and I still popped in in sub 4 hours.

There's a bunch of different Live Wires and you left out Xcel.
For all-around playability and easy to find-ness: NXT16
PS those mini reels are great!! $11/set vs. $16+ ? No brainer.
I hesitate to lump synguts in with multis, different demographic.

The best multi ever made was laserfibre prostock, but unfortunately they don't do business anymore. So it would have to be nxt tour 18 gauge, it is overpriced but a great string.

Xcel Power is pretty new. I'm fairly certain that drakulie meant the original, as did I.

I also believe that if it had not had the misfortune to come out at almost the same time as MCS, many more people would be talking about QuasiGut

Xcel Premium was the best overall for me. X1 was best when fresh but turns to doo doo after a few hours. Loved MultiFeel too but durability is poor and I think they changed the formula for it. It seems stiffer now.

The reason I left out Xcel and Premier is because both feel like mush I hit and bruise way to easily when I string them.

That's just absolute nonsense. If you think they're 'mush' (when you already have X1, NRG2 etc in your poll) then you're stringing too low or talking BS. Xcel has a crisp element to it so I don't know where you get your 'mush' from. Not sure what you mean by 'bruise' either but if you're crushing the strings or marking them unduly, your clamps are too tight. Every other stringer in the world can string Xcel without a problem, so save the silly excuses for fogetting to put it in the poll.

Some strings are notorious for ghosting.
Doesn't affect the playability, but it is unsightly.
I guess that's why they make diabolos

Seriously, the dude is just angry in every post now.
As for your question, I'd just look at Mikeler's Multi posts and leave it as that. That's about as comprehensive a post as you'll find on multis. My opinion differs slightly from Mikeler's though.
I find NXT(regular), when fresh, an absolute amazing string. Pockets like gut and has that rare soft yet crisp feeling like gut. To me, fresh NXT doesn't just play(except spin production) and feel like gut, it feels like high end gut. Problem is this lasts about 1-2 hours and then the resiliency drops off tremendously and it feels dead with much less control.
Gamma live wire pro is the closest overall and even feels like gut as well, though a bit gummier. Power/feel is similar to gut though not the same spin production and a massive tension loss after the first hitting session.
I agree with Mikeler about xcel. Does everything very well and is probably the best overall for a multi.
Of course, if you're going expensive multi route, you might as well just use gut mains(not the cheap gut) and syn gut crosses. Same price, better durability (gut lasts longer than any of these multis), betten tension maintenance and poly like spin production.

I am a big fan of NXT, though my local stringer has gotten a bad batch here and there through the years. I grew up on Gamma since there wasn't much choice in between nylon and gut in the late '80's, but I absolutely hate the TNTs and Live Wires.

Is Xcel power different feel than Xcel premium ? i know NRG2 is bit more softer feel than X-1. but i wonder if it is same for Xcel premium too

I have not tried Xcel Power but I'd assume they are different. The Power costs more. NRG2 is about the same softness as X-1 to me. My complaint with NRG2 was the lack of spin potential.

great spin, control, tension hold, durability , great volleys all for under 6$ !

feel sorry for anyone paying 20$ for premium multi only to get pasted by me and my 5$ string.

Let me know when we're playing next so I can string up some $3 syn gut. That way, when you paste me, I'll feel sorry for you that you spent twice as much as I did on the string.

RIP is not a string for everybody - and it's not under $6 a set anymore.

but if you are stringing hybrid with poly then you don't have to worry about the spin potential of NRG2

Xcel Premium is a bit softer and not as crisp as Power. Xcel power also has a bit more oomph to the string.

NRG2 and X1 play very similar but X1 has a bit more power and is a bit crisper though NRG2 lasts a bit longer.

i have been using NRG2 for the last few years and before that 515.

might try x-1 just as a comparison.

Maybe one of these days I'll try the Power version but at around $20, think I'd rather just buy a decent gut for a few dollars more.

My local stringer is really high on NXT Tour, says it plays much better that Prince syn gut. Anyone tried it? If so, how does it compare to regular NXT?

Regular NXT is a great multi. It's for sure better than PSG. I haven't tried the tour yet.

Regular NXT is $11 when you get the mini-reel. That's worth it for a very good string. NXT Tour is $19. For that price, I'm comparing it to gut.

i have gamma revelation 17 on a dunlop 4d 200 tour at 56 lbs.

its soft on the arm - bites the ball and generates good spin and power...with the heavy racket it can generate rockets and tranmits info from ball contact in a pleasant way.

not sure about durability as i have just strung the racket.

I don't believe the mini-reel is available any more, is it? I notice that your post was from February.

Questions:

1) Why would no reels be available for any NXT string?

2) Has anyone compared NXT with NXT Max?

Thanks for answers.

In my experience, @ $13 Volkl Power Fiber II holds the best price/performance ratio.
PPA comes close as my second choice.

I found NXT to be more crisp and NXT Max had more dwell time. I used them on a Dunlop MW 200G 95 @62. I surprised myself with a forcing topspin forhand with the Max. If only I were more consistently good. Sigh...

I suppose that NXT Max is more durable? What do you sacrifice by moving from NXT to NXT Max?

I like NXT Max better. It's just a matter of preference whether you like crisp & clean (NXT) or dwell & cushion (NXT Max). I switched because I found Tecnifibre Multifeel, which I liked even better for a lot less $. I can't comment on the durability. I'm not a string breaker.
