Only putting retired players on the list, so no Ostapenko, Stephens, Andreescu, Kenin, Raducanu, Rybakina, Vondrousova, or Keys.

Clearly Ivanovic. Only Ana got to the no. 1 ranking and made 2 other slam finals. 15 career titles (3 1000s). Finished in the year-end top 5 3 times

Bartoli - no.7, 1 other slam final, 8 titles (0 1000s)

Schiavone - no.6, 1 other slam final, 8 titles (0 1000s)

Penetta - no.6, 0 finals, 11 titles (1 1000s)

Stosur - no.4, 1 other slam final, 9 titles (0 1000s)

Add Myskina - no.2, 0 finals, 10 titles

Ivanovic clearly had the most successful career out of these 5 players.

At her pomp and in-fact during her rise as a teenager, she had a devastating forehand (which she became more cautious with later on especially when she worked with Nigel Sears) and impressive serve (before she encountered issues with her ball toss). Plus while this is a delicate issue, during that period when she worked with Sears, I think she lost too much weight which hindered her tennis (not the first time that happened to a player that was working with Sears). Her performance as an 18 year old vs. Hingis in the 2006 Montreal final, when she also volleyed well and hit good slices, was spectacular.

Her grand slam record from RG 2007 to RG 2008, finalist, semi-finalist, 4th round (losing to Venus in a stacked section of the draw), finalist, champion, was excellent.

Then her drop off was steep. She entered 34 majors after her 2008 RG triumph, reaching 1 semi-final (at RG in 2015) and 2 more quarter-finals and nothing more during that period. For such a long portion of her career, she simply wasn't a big factor at the grand slams.

Myskina winning her grand slam title on her weakest surface was interesting; I think she was definitely better on grass than clay, without getting to indoor carpet or indoor or outdoor hard courts. She had 28 appearances at RG and tier 1 and 2 events on clay / har-tru during her career. RG in 2004 was the only time from those 28 appearances that she even made it past the quarter-final stage.

Schiavone (with Stosur as a not too distant runner up) the most fun to watch. Flavia (Ivanovic a not too distant runner up) the most fun to look at. Marion should just give her title to Sabine:cry::cry::cry:

No, but seriously, Ivanovic was clearly the best. I'm pretty sure she had the shortest career of the 5, she certainly had the fewest wins, and yet she had the most titles, was the only one (however fraudulently) to make it to number 1, was a match with Serena away from being part of the slam semi-final club, etc. Being tall always helps.

Ivanovic - 480–225/15 titles/number 1/F-W-SF-QF
Pennetta - 582–365/11 titles/number 6/QF-4R-4R-W
Schiavone - 614–479/8 titles/number 4/QF-W-QF-QF
Stosur - 607–457/9 titles/number 4/4R-F-3R-W
Bartoli - 490–299/8 titles/number 7/QF-SF-W-QF

Also, wow, yes, I can't believe you (and I) forgot Myskina. Best shmest. Stats shmats. She's the one. My fave of all the Russian golden generation. Watching her slowly descend from that magical moment was tragic, but she'll always be the first.

My pick is for a name not on the list...Anastasia Myskina. Nobody saw her winning the French in '04, and she never came close again

Ivanovic was briefly a world #1, Stosur was a top-10 player who got to other Slam Finals, Schiavone was an excellent clay courter who very nearly went back-to-back at Roland Garros, and Bartoli reached a previous Wimbledon Final before winning that crazy 2013 Wimbledon

There was a lot of hype about Ivanovic for about a year or so (2007-2008), expecting her to win many majors. She only won 1 major at that time (2008 French Open), but was runner-up at the 2007 French Open and 2008 Australian Open (the famous "squeak" semi final match vs. Hantuchova, when Hantuchova had been leading 6-0, 2-0, only to lose). Ivanovic was also a semi finalist at 2007 Wimbledon. After winning the 2008 French Open, her consistency largely faded away after all the hype.

Bartoli could turn it on occasionally. She said after losing the 2007 Wimbledon final to Venus Williams that she would return to a Wimbledon final in the future and would win it, and did so in 2013.
