Best outcome for tennis at RG?

Forget who you think will win, or who you would love to see win...what do you think the best outcome for the health of the game is?

IMO the best outcome is that the French is won by a new face, but not one who's so new as to be unrecognizable (so not a Fils or Van Assche). An established player but not a Goran at the end of his career (so not a Grigor or Thiem as much as I would personally love to see that). Someone who can find a new level and challenge the big dogs and add some real parity to the landscape. And someone who already has a connection with the fans.

For me, it's a TPas win. He's a very well liked player (by the fans), plays a gloriously athletic brand of tennis. And with Jannicarlos nipping at his heels, how many more chances will he get?

At the same time, a win would do a lot for him and maybe give him the confidence needed to win a few more Slams before he's done.

Close second would be Zverev for all the same reasons. Ruud third choice. The tour is due for some parity and suspense.

Djokovic can't win any more but when he does some the breakdowns are pretty funny.

Alcaraz or Sinner win would be great as they look to be the ones with the best hope of becoming stars for the long term. If they can’t win due to injury, a Ruud win would be good as he is a well-liked player who is great on clay and has been to two FO finals in the past where he had the misfortune to play Nadal and Djokovic in good form.

Best possible outcome is for Djokovic to win this Roland Garros in addition to winning the next 3 RG’s

Zed winning would be absolutely disgusting.

You mean like when a teenage 12th seed won the 1990 US Open? Or when an unseeded teen won Wimbledon in 1985? Breakthroughs like that are amazing for the game, doubly so if the player can build on it.

Fils winning at Roland Garros — highly unlikely as that is — would be monumental. The first homegrown champ in the men's singles in over 40 years? And a player of colour as well? For starters, France would go bananas, but I think the rest of tennis would as well.

It's never gonna happen, but I would absolutely love to see Arthur win. (Either him, or his older brother Gaelmon.)

If we're talking best for the sport in general...

Tennis needs the young guys to take over as the faces of the sport after the big3 era.
So maybe a final with one of the "established" young guys (Alcaraz or Sinner) vs an "upstart" young guy (Rune / Shelton / Fils).

Fils as a Frenchman would of course be huge.
Shelton would create huge buzz in the US.
Rune could be cast as the "bad boy" finalist.

It's too late for Zverev / Tsitsipas / Ruud to become the new faces of tennis.

Agree about Fils, he was just the first name that popped into my head when I was thinking about guys even younger than Alcaraz or Sinner who could potentially break through. I agree that Fils winning RG would be monumental, I just don't want to see it yet because

1) I don't think he's seasoned enough to keep that level up--could be some degree of Raducanu Syndrome

2) Once he is ready he will have many chances and all the crowd support.

For me wins by other players is coming too late. I can easily see that people will say for the next decade that anyone who wins would have gotten beaten by any of the Big Three in their prime.

Alcaraz would be the best for sure. He's the budding superstar who was supposed to win Roland Garros 2 years ago already, so its overdue.

A gay, black Ukrainian player that looks like Tyson Beckford, speaks perfect English and is as charming as Sean Connery

I see that, too, and I'm going to hate it! I wish Djok and Nadal will just go on and get it over with; retire together at Laver Cup.

GOATdal going the distance in one last blaze of glory would be the stuff of legends my dudes, buds.

The meltdown if that happens will be epic. Nadal has already permanently destroyed some of one player's fanbase for eternity judging by their obsession and meltdowns on X (apparently Nadal was secretly behind some sort of assassination:-D plot recently) so if he performs The Paradise in Paris sit back and enjoy.

Agree with this which is why GOAT debates can never be based on just the numbers without context being added. Alcaraz Sinner Rune (although i am worried about him tbh) and Shelton ( i think he will win slams) are an exception to your point as they do not have the baggage other players have such as Zverev and Tsitsipas against the Big 3, but we are at the stage now where if the original Next Gen now start winning multiple slams it wont mean that much. For example if Medvedev won 7 Majors eventually i do not think he can ever be considered greater than Murray or Wawrinka for example. Id argue Ferrer was greater than Medvedev tbh.

Nadal winning would be arguably the greatest ever sporting achievement of all time.
Alcaraz winning will be huge as Alcaraz would be the youngest ever player to win slams on 3 surfaces and seismic for the sport as we witness the rise of the probably undisputed GOAT eventually should he win
Shelton would add hollywood appeal to tennis. The guy oozes charisma and attitude
Oth a Tsitispas win would be an unmitigated disaster. He is the polar opposite of Shelton.

GOATsipas, Ruud, Rune, Sinner or Alcaraz winning it would be huge. These are the guys who are anointed to move the game forward and despite being young they are already moving the needle fan base-wise.

A lot of the younger guys were forced into ambassadorial roles earlier than young superstars would normally be because tennis marketers don’t trust Djokovic to put asses in seats and Nadal has played so sparingly over the last 2 years.

Nadal winning it might be the best result in terms of mainstream coverage. Seeing the massive crowds coming out to see him even just practice has reminded me that he is not only still the biggest name in tennis but the goodwill towards him is huge.
