By best I don't mean best overall player, but the player that had the best results at a Slam without winning it. Here are my picks:

Men:

Australian Open:
Andy Roddick: 4 SF, 1 QF

French Open: Alex Corretja: 2 finals, 1 SF

Wimbledon: Andy Roddick: 3 finals, 1 SF

US Open:
Bjorn Borg: 4 finals, 1 SF

Women:
Australian Open: Arantxa Sanchex-Vicario: 2 finals, 3 SF

French Open: Martina Hingis: 2 finals, 3 SF

Wimbledon: Justine Henin: 2 finals, 3 SF

US Open: Elena Dementieva: 1 final, 3 SF

I'll do last 10 years:

AO- Lleyton Hewitt (heartbreaking for him)
FO- Novak Djokovic
Wim- Andy Roddick
USO- Rafael Nadal

There. I gave 2 to my 2 least fave Top-10ers. I'm honest

for the last 10 years I'd say

AO: Roddick
FO: Djokovic
W: Roddick
USO: Djokovic: 1 final, two semis (lost to Federer in all)

If you are talking only the last ten years then I'd say Coria over Djokovic at the French.

na, djokovic hasn't ever gotten close enough at the French. probably would have said federer (till this year ) but no i'll agree on Coria. he was MADDENINGLY close, and couldnt get it.

US Open, I would probably agree with Djokovic, though Nadal was certainly someone who deserves to win it.

No WAY is Roddick better than Hewitt. Maybe now, but at their prime?

Wimbledon: Andy Roddick. 3 finals and 1 semi, lost to Federer everytime...

If im correct, aside from Roddick, Borg is the only player to make a slam final at least 3 times without winning it.

Fed was part of that group till he won the French this year, and so was Goran until 01.

And, also, I cant think of a player, who has lost to the eventual champ of 1 major 5 times except Roddick (01, 03 - 05, 09).

Just shows you that, while Roddick is no Agassi or Sampras, he could have certainly been at Courier level if the cards fell better

But Lleyton pulls off the backwards hat a lot better. End of discussion.

All Time:

AO: Borg (considering it was on grass back then, it was pretty good odds he'd have won it had he played)

FO: McEnroe - so damn close against Lendl, a shame he couldn't win it.

Wimby: Lendl (to me 2 Finals and 5 SF > 3 F and 1 SF for Roddick)

USO: Borg (not even sure how Nadal's mentioned here. His USO resume is not the best; sure two SF, but did he really beat anyone great to get to those SF? I think not.)

Australian: Roddick
French: Djokovic
Wimbledon: Roddick or Lendl
US: Borg and Nadal

I would put Nole in place of Nadal at the USO. Nole was the finalist in 07, a semifinalist in 08 and 09....all matches he lost to Federer. Meanwhile, Rafa escape from facing Roger by being in the opposite half of the draw since 2005.

Australian Open: Pat Cash (2 F's + 2 QF's) or Andy Roddick (4 SFs + 1 QF)

French Open: Alex Corretja (2 F's + 1 SF + 2 QF's)

Wimbledon: Andy Roddick (3 F's + 1 SF + 1 QF) or Ivan Lendl (2 F's + 5 SF's)

US Open: Bjorn Borg (4 F's + 1 SF + 1 QF)

AO - Roddick/Hewitt. Although Hewitt had the better chance to win and came closer.
FO - Djokovic; Coria is overrated and nearly lost to henman ROFL!!
W - Roddick. Countless times he has lost to Federer
US - Djokovic; Nadal has only 1 semifinal appearence there.

U S Open, Bjorn Borg for sure. Wimbledon I'd say Nastase or Lendl. French, hard to say but I'm going with McEnroe. Australian, doesn't matter because only until recent years have the top players showed up.
