Best shoe for ankle support?

Question is in the title. What do you think is the best shoe for ankle support? (Bonus if it is also kind on the toes - my current Wilson Rush Pro 3.5s are killing my big toes)

Check out the "Best shoes for ankle sprainers" section of this video.

The Solecourt Boost have served me well for this. Large lateral flange gives you a lot of support, and the toebox is wide, so it may help with your toe issue as well. (I discovered I had been wearing shoes slightly too narrow for me, and the resulting instability was making my ankle sprains worse).

I have recently taken to wearing ankle braces full time with a more minimal pair of shoes. That approach may also work for you.

Look for shoes that have a outrigger that prevents ankle rolls and support the ankle. The solecourt boost is a prime example. Wilson Kaos is another shoe with a decent outrigger. If you are unable to find tennis shoes, consider basketball shoes. You can find plenty of shoes with outriggers on them.

Regarding ankle braces. I support what akk says. If you wear an ankle braces, use minimal shoes to compliment it. If you lock down your ankles too much, then you can eventually mess up your knees and/or hip.

Thanks for the suggestions.

To be clear, I don't actually have any ankle problems whatsoever, I just prefer the feel of tennis shoes that are very stable around the ankle. So ankle braces aren't really necessary, just a nice shoe.

I've had 2 ankle re-co's so I know where you are coming from.

I previously had the K-Swiss 7.0 Preventer, this was a brilliant shoe. Since then however I have had to go for the ASO Ankle Stabilizer brace, which I have found to be the best combo of support and comfort, as I also used it for Badminton as well, rather than taping my ankle.

For now I have been using K-Swiss Big Shot light 3, as its also a bit wider in its fit, but will also work with this brace.

Its been a while since I have seen anyone make a try 3/4 cut tennis shoe, and even longer since we have been able to find any here in Australia

After spraining ankles playing volleyball in my 30’s - I have stuck with basketball shoes.

I have tried several. A decently durable model is the Lebron Witness IV which you can still find on **** and some stores < $75 or so sometimes. They are not super high - 3/4 I guess. Light! Super comfy. Super bouncy. Great support everywhere. Great lock down when you’re going corner to corner.

The V version are not as durable.

But. Tennis nerds will say they won’t work for tennis. Tell me how and why that is?

Guards move side to side as they dribble/fake. They move up and down the court while jumping at any moment - they cut quickly. I really don’t understand the argument.

basketball shoes have great lateral support

How’s the sole durability? Basketball shoes don’t fair well out on the court since they are all made for indoor play.

with two pair and based on me playing 3-6x a week (1-1.5 hrs each time) since purchase….. they will last about 10-12 months. So maybe 5-6 months each? But that is a lot of playing lol.

I just got my Nike Kyrie 7s almost a month ago for the reason you are looking and I am loving them. Plenty of ankle support. I really couldn't be happier. If you do the custom build route, you can get them with Nike's outdoor sole, which has been very durable thus far.
