I have a bad ankle that hurts alot so I was wondering what the best shoes for ankle support are.... I play the most on hard and clay. Hard hurts it the most. If the shoe was good for clay aswell then that would be PERFECT!
Thanks,

By the way you described on your post, it doesn't sounds like you twist your ankle much, but rather looking for more soft and cushion shoes, is that correct?

The only 3/4 height tennis shoe that includes the ankle area that I'm aware of is the Prince NFS Viper V 3/4, but I haven't played in it. It seems about ten years ago there were several higher topped tennis shoes, but they've almost disappeared.
If you are looking just for extra cushioning on hard courts, you're not going to beat the Asics Gel Resolution II's.
And new gel insoles improve the cushioning in any shoe.

I have a similar problem, years of skateboarding and a lot of rolled ankles are passing bill these days. One thing you should take care is your weight, whenever i am a couple of pounds over my regular weight the pain start to appear. Shoes with lateral support, wide soles, are important because it provide a better base for the lateral stepping and take out a lot of strees to the ankle. One thing that you should definitely try is to slowly rotate your foot something like 5 times after playing, kind of like stretching the ankle, this should avoid the pain once your ankles get cold.

For shoes I would go with the Cages or the Barricade, Prince have good wide soles shoes but they arent as confortable as Nikes or Adidas.

I would recommend something like Adidas Tirend III for cushion. You can always replace the thin stock insole and exchange it with something else.

Although other brands such as Adidas doesn't have the fancey stuff like the air sole like Nike, but I find the EVA on Adidas does a better job than Nike air sole. Asics is another one you can look into for soft cushion...

I dont' think anybody really care to exam his issue. The OP's problem is impact of the feet and the ground, which cause his ankle injury.

It's not the problem of lacking support around his ankles...

So asics gel resolution. Do they have a warranty? Because I would prefer that on a shoe as well.....

Ankle support in shoes is somewhat of a myth. Nike did a study a long time ago with basketball shoes and the first version of low top Jordans. Something about very little difference in injury prevention, but some difference due to preconception.

Check out some Nike 1.3 Ballistecs. They have a very comfortable feel to them, plenty of cushioning in my opinion.

I used to have chronic ankle problems whether it was from my weight or just twisted ankles. I've been using Breathe Free 2s. I've just recently made the switch to the Ballistecs, and the difference is profound. Far more comfortable with all the performance and support of the breathe frees.
