Best Slam in quite a while

What an incredible two weeks of tennis we just had. An absolute fairytale. So many stories. So many records. So much entertainment.
The surprise introduction of the new faster courts and lighter balls, allowing for a wider range of playstyles to be able to displayed and challenge for the win. The incredible story of Dennis Istomin, who after suffering a career threatening accident in 2001, being coached by his mum to ultimately playing the match of his life to knock out the 6 time champion Djokovic. Or the miraculous return of Mischa Zverev, a man who onlt a couple of years ago, was ranked ouside the top 1000, making one final attempt at tennis after seeing the success of his younger brother Sascha and showing that the art of serve and volleying is not dead and buried. The emergence of Coco Vandeweghe, who absolutely blew French open champion Muguruza and world number one Kerber off the court, or Dimitrov, who seems to have found his form from 2014 again, and then some.

Then we move onto the the incredible stories of the four finalists. The William's sisters, yet again putting on a clinic the whole tournament. Serena surpassing Steffi Graffs 22 Grand slam titles and further cementing her case as the greatest of all time, but also her sister Venus, showing a surprise return with incredible form, 8 years after her last slam final. Nadal, who for the past 2 years had been suffering with many injuries and people counting him off time after time, showing his true grit and battling it through every round, showing very promising form. Then we have Federer, coming back after a 6 months break after a knee injury, and to everyone's surprises, putting on clinics, aswell as battling it out in 2 very tough five setters, all the culminate to the final that everyone wanted, and a final this tournament deserved. Great grit from both players. Insane points and drama. Both played an great match to cap off a wonderful tournament, with Federer edging it out for his 18th Grand slam title.

Incredible.

This Slam went from bad to worse, starting with Djokovic and Murray getting bounced early and culminating in a guy over 35 winning the bloody title

I'm ready to see new champions emerge. Nishikori should have taken out Fed but he didn't and now we are in this mess

The only reason you're upset is that Federer won. Get over it man.

That was the best group of final three matches in a men's major--ever. Wimbledons 1980 and 2008 don't compare because the SFs were nothing special.

I would have said the same thing had it been some other 35 year old lifting the trophy
Lucky for us this particular 35-year old winning it really puts some extra hot sauce on the already gigantic butt-hurt you are experiencing :)) May you never recover!

I bet you that the TV rating this final is higher than last year final.

The best tournament since 2014 as far as I'm concerned. It's been great seeing Nadal and Federer doing this well. It's ironic that this forum crashes during the final, and worse than the old vbulletin forum ever did.

So tournament is great when two 35 year old players who didn't play 3-6 months respectivly in both women and men competition, end it with trophy in their hands ???? How come ?
When 1st and 2nd seed get out early, when one of oldest players complain that surface resembles carpet the most (Verdasco), without preparing players to such drastic change, when there still are no young players to offer anything substantional.... it's best Slam in quite a while :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: what a hypocrisy even fro Fed fans.

Now we know how you felt for 5 years straight.:(
That amount of time being butthurt made irreparable damage to your psyche, but don't worry about us, Fed won't dominate for so long.

it's great because it had a lot of great stories, some of returns, some break throughs, and some shocks. It's great because it offered something fresh and new, instead of the usual slug fest we come to expect(and were expecting) between djokovic and murray. I'm sure Djokovic and Murray will be back to making finals in the rest of the year.

Something new is not another Fedal and Williams final for sure.

I thought tennis was dead for a while but then this flower of a tournament happens. One of the best tournaments I've ever seen.
And this happened partially by there being a surface where attacking tennis could be seen instead of the table tennis like endless rallies we have seen for years at that site

Actually I was completely fine the last 5 and even more years. Unlike you, a bandwagon nationalist that never played, watched or heaed about the sport until Nole started winning, I understand the correlation between tennis and age. Champions come and go, but GOAT's return.

You better stock up on vaseline as it will only get worse for you. Oh, yes! ;)

I think it lived up to its hype this time.
Considering the stages of their careers, definitely. Federer owed us a great 5th set in the AO final vs Rafa and has now delivered it 8 years later. I just think that despite some all time diamonds of matches, their overall rivalry is a bit overhyped because it isn't very close (no dig at Fed intended) and because it has had its fair share of disappointing matches.

Before this tournament the last one that was really good from the very start was 2014 Wimbledon. Not saying it's been bad in between, it's just difficult to have tournaments like those.

Yes you are very fine in your fine world of dumb insults that you are trying to push every time you feel threatened.

Why is Murray getting bounced out a bad thing?

Had tournament organizers sped up the court 7 years ago we wouldn't have been subjected to the agonizing 7 hours grind fests of Muzz and Novak. I hope they all wake up now!
This. It was killing Tennis IMHO.
I wonder if other slams and tournaments will follow suit.

absolutely incredible, but for now lets leave out the obvious thing that we were waiting for almost 5 years, finally someone taking out djokovic by blowing him out of the court, seeing someone like mischa do so well and who i look forward to keep watching in the grass court season and hard court torunament, venus reaching the final, dimitrov getting back and i think this is very understated but the fact that BOTH mens semifinals were such incredible matches, after watching fed-stan i thought there was no way that match could have been toppled, the we get the bestiality that was nadal dimitrov, and yet when you think there is not a higher level of tennis possible you get roger playing one of the most insane matches i have ever seen, still strugglin to fully process what a majestic and inmaculate perfomance that was, for roger and rafa, its been like 2 years since i have seen rafa play this good and to me he seems to be playing at a higher level than before, and i hope he can keep playing like that without setbacks, of course i said that because he did not win, had he taken the tittle from roger then that last sentence would have been a little different, but yeah what an incredible tournament, so many things, only bad thing is that delpo did not play

Glad you got your wish with Med winning at the US Open!
I wanted it for the historical factor. I would have rooted for pretty much anyone (other than Fed) to complete the CYGS

But no, it didn't really bother me all that much
