Hi, i need some help.

whats the best string setup for Pure Aero ?
THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWERS! Niko from Germany
It depends on what you are looking for.....however following find a list of strings suitable for this frame:

Babolat RPM Team, Babolat RPM Blast, Solinco TourBite, Luxilon Element, Solinco Hyper G, Yonex Polytour Spin-G or Wilson Revolve

Yes wilson revolve works well. They say RPM blast is ideal. But I got more spin funnily enough from Volkl Cyclone with a higher tension.

Of the 5+ strings I've tried so far Cyclone is the winner by a mile followed by wilson revolve.

Trying hybrid Wilson Gut16g main/ Cyclone 18g this weekend.

What tension do you recommend for the Revolve? Strings dont last me more than 6hrs in this frame :/

I hybrid, Weiss Cannon Silverstring 17 in the mains and Discho Cellular 16 in the crosses. Very comfortable hybrid and affordable as well.

Keeping this thread alive..
I got 6 hours of play out of Solinco tour bite 17 at 54lbs. 10 hours at 56. I am now trying Wilson Revolve 16 at 55. So far, I'm not a huge fan of the feel. It's very mushy compared to tour bite. I have a set of hyper G but it doesn't look like it holds tension very well.

ohh dont tell my that resolve 16 dosnt have good feeling :(
i have some coming tomorrow i may play hybrid with babolat syn gut. do you have regular pure aero? did u modify at all?

I've liked in my pure aero Alu Power, Alu Power Spin, Tour Bite at low tension...Alu power rough, 4g, RPM blast at mid tension...Tour bite soft, TBHB7, Dunlop Black Widow at high tension.

Solinco Tour Bite and RPM Blast are really just that suited to the Pure Drive...almost as if they made the strings for the racket of vice versa. Power (control of the Power), Control, Spin (fantastic).
Solinco is slightly stiffer/less power.

I understand your point of view, and also liked the spin both provided.
However, I didn't like the feel (or lack of feel) they provided.
Also, with Tour Bite you are putting a stiff string on a stiff racket.

I should clarify. I switch racquets a lot but I've been using Tour-bite exclusively for 4 years. Anything else feels a bit strange. For me right now, it's about finding a string that will last a bit longer. As it stands, I would have to restring every 6-8 hours and thats a bit much.

Anubis,
Any input on how Hyper G feels compared to Tour Bite and how long it lasts/holds tension?

I think you'll have a hard time finding anything that last longer than TB. I've used pretty much the entire Solinco line because my hitting partner has a sponsorship deal with them. I like TB and Diamond Rough.

It's considerably softer and more powerful than tour bite. That's why I have to string it so tight. Tour bite, I can string it 6 to 10 lbs looser. I don't break strings so I can't comment on that. As to tension loss, all poly loses a ton of tension, so unless you're talking about Luxilon 4G, I don't think tension maintenance is relevant in choosing polyester strings. I get about 10 hours out of it before it dies.

FWIW I think it lasts a bit longer than Tour Bite Soft, which dies in about 6 hours.

I am looking for a perfect match to buy a reel.
I have tried and enjoyed Luxilon Alu Power 1.25, Luxilon Element 1.25, Blast 1.30, Cyclone 1.30 (all @51lbs ordered best to worst - no love for the Volkl in the PA).

Right now i am trying Hyper G 1.25 @51lbs in the PA and so far its a perfect match but i do feel some pain in my forearm right after playing Hyper G wich i havent experienced with the previous strings???

Should i drop tension or try the 17 or 18 gauge?

I still have some sets to try:
Tour Bite
Silverstring
Luxilon BB Original

Also, can you give some feedback on Solinco Diamond Rough in the PA?
I tried it for a few minutes in a friends lighter stick and loved it but not sure how would it work in the PA.

Strange that you feel pain with HG, and not with ALU Power or RPM Blast. Both of those strings are significantly more stiff than HG. The only thing I can think of, is that you're dealing with some latent pain that was dealt out by those stiffer strings and you're just now feeling it.

Dropping the tension by a few lbs usually does nothing with polyester strings. natural gut can have fairly huge swings in performance by just changing two lbs here and there. But with poly, 2 to 4 lbs doesn't make a whole heck of a lot of difference (except for maybe fresh off the stringing machine).

If you really want temporary comfort, you should change the tension by 25%. That will make a huge change to comfort and alleviate any arm pain you're experiencing. Yes, performance will change as well, and you'll have to compensate for that. But, you'll feel no pain.

Once you've healed, then you can raise the tension by 10% at a time until you get back to your home tension.

I think the diamond rough will be better than the HG. It seems to produce a pretty heavy ball and has better feel that HG. It is not going to produce the same spin as TB or Blast. I concur with Anubis that a drop in tension might be a good idea if your arm hurts. Putting some lead on that PA will make it far better as well. I didn't like the regular PA but loved the Tour.

The most comfortable poly I have tried is the Ytex. I only used the square x. Very plush and lots of spin.

I second the ytex square x on pure aero, it is by far the most comfy poly I've used, and great spin, better for me than quadro twist, but could just be I'm not used to the higher launch angle of quadro. Square x much more comfortable than hyper G. Downside is it doesn't last that long

I think you are spot on the latent pain!
Reaching the 6 hours mark I feel less discomfort and I am really enjoying this string so I will further try the HG 17 @ lower tension, maybe 49, 48lbs.
I have also ordered 1 Diamond Rough set; Can you give me some tensions advise on this one for optimal play oon tha PA ... there isn't a lot of feedback - the one i tried was @55lbs and it was nice.

Definitely will give the ytex a try as soon as possible.

Many thanks

I use the square x at 55. Thinking if trying a little higher , it's such a nice string. Cheap too

I just strung up a Pure Aero Lite modified like Bageldogs to near stock Pure Aero specs. I love the Kevlar/Monogut ZX combo in open or Spin type frames for the spin and control, I have been using a 63/46 combo in my 98s for the past yr and its worked well and I have had no arm or shoulder issues and I have a surgically repaired shoulder. I strung the Aero at 60/46. When I hit a few times with the PA demo which was freshly strung with a Revolve/Syngut hybrid (53lbs) my one issue was it was a bit too "springy". The Kev/ZX does tame power and lasts very well so I am thinking this combo will work well in this frame. What I am looking for is a 98s "type" frame with a bigger sweetspot and more pop that also serves better, in my recent demoing the PA seems to fit the bill, now I have to see how my favorite "spin/control setup plays in this frame. I am hitting today and tomorrow and will report back.

Playing the Hyper-G 17 @ M:51lb X:49 for some time now;
WOW
Brought me my best tennis ever, pain free! Happy smacking balls like crazy o_O

The gauge matters a lot. Just saying "Tour Bite" isn't sufficient. Tour Bite 17 will give me about 5 hours before tension drops below a playable threshold, whereas Tour Bite 16L will go over twice that, but at the cost of comfort.

Try Diadem Solstice Power 17 or Technifibre Black Code 4S 17. Both are softer copoly strings with tremendous spin potential and better than avg tension maintenance.

Weiss canon ultra cable... ytex quadro twist.. both have treated me right.

stick has so much pop... I prefer shaped strings to keep the ball down and in

I'm looking for a setup that will have the bite of Kevlar but with more comfort in the Pure Aero. I recently had mine strung with Kevlar 19g and multi crosses and while I liked it I think the frame is just too stiff for a kevlar sting long term as my arm had some slight pain after playing with the setup for a few weeks. So I am back to looking at other hybrid setups.

Thinking the Tour Bite Diamond Rough and RPM Blast might be a good combo. I prefer the feel of 17g string even though I will tend to break them, but I see that as the cost of playing tennis. I would love to try a Poly/Natural hybrid but heard once you go natural you can't go back b/c the feel and comfort are that nice.

Any other recs to try out there? TIA

I tried gut hybrid and liked it, but the problem is that I break it too soon. It would be a no go for me even if the strings costed 0 because I have to pay for the string jobs. My PA is strung with gut hybrid now, but it's the last set I had. It will break soon and I have some sets of different multis to try then.

I have a western FH so topspin is a must in my game as well (2HBH/Spin serves etc). How long did the gut last? I currently play about 3 times a week. Thanks

1-2 weeks. With 4 training hours and a few hours of doubles per week. I play with semi western FH and moderate spin.

Now testing the Solinco Tour Bite Diamond Rough;
It suites the PA nicely producing a lower and heavier ball, but i do prefer the control and spin offered by the Hyper-G; provides more confidence overall in my game.

I use 17 gauge RPM blast on my pure aero, and I love the spin. My teammate uses a pure aero lite with the volkl cyclone 17, and he likes it as well. both give great spin capacity

Thought I'd bump this. I'm getting 10 hours out of rs Lyon 17 at 51#s in the pure aero plus, which just creams the ball. Heavy spin as well for a round string, but I'm thinking about trying ultra cable just to see if a shape string has even more bite. I'm so addicted to the feel and playability of RS that it's tough to really consider other options, so we shall see.

Using TB 20 Gauge @48 in mains , Gamma Glide @54 in crosses in Pure Aero. Great combo of power , spin and ball pocketing.

Ultra Cable in a Pure Aero Plus would produce insane, off-the-scale levels of spin I'd imagine. Interesting to hear how you get on with it!

Thoroughly enjoying Laserfibre Edge right now, only issue is that some of my customers say it doesn't have the best durability. If that's an issue for you I'd say try out Smooth, same material but in a round shape.

Playing with different hybrids and here's what I've tried thus far, please remember these are just my experiences and comments.

Solinco Tour Bite 17 & Vanquish 16: http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Solinco_Tour_Bite_17__Vanquish_16_Hybrid_String/descpageACSOLINCO-SHTBV16.html
- Reall liked this combo, had the pop and plenty of spin potential all while being controllable.
- The Tour Bite will start to shred the crosses if you hit a lot of spin.
- Overall a great hybrid for the price and I will probably get it again, but both sets did pop after about 2-3 weeks of play.

After reading a recent tennis magazine string review I'm trying the following hybrid: (Only played each racket about 2 hrs)
Babolat RPM Blast Rough 17 / Head Velocity MLT 16
- So far great comfort and feel
- Not as much spin potential & control takes a bit more work great access to power
- So far no shredding so durability looks to be a bit better than Solinco

I have to say both are proving to be good hybrid setups that, for me, give me access to power & spin while still being arm friendly and 'softening' up the PureAero a bit. I feel the Solinco was more controllable and slightly more comfy at the sacrifice of durability but your mileage may vary.

Thanks

I just modified a PA Lite and what a difference it made! 3g tungsten tape at 3 and 9 position (6g total there) and 3g in the buttcap. I've added a Luxilon dampener and tecnifibre overgrip (weight with these two?). I'm not sure what the specs are now, but it performs extremely well and much better in all areas than before. It's strung with Luxilon ALU Power Rough 16L @50 Pounds mains, and Tencifibre X-One 16g @52 Crosses.

Recently strung a couple of these bad boys in Solinco Hyper-G and heard nothing but praise for it
Yeah, spinny polys with low power are awesome in APDs in general. The Pure Aero is no exception, especially since you'll need control more than ever with the wider string spacing.
