Best strings for junior players under 10

Any soft string should be fine. I'd go with an 18 gauge until they start breaking them.

My player breaks string every two weeks and it's getting expensive. So will a Gamma Synthetic Gut 16 be reasonable or 17? 18 may be a lot of stringing on my part. What do the experts think? I have not freaking ideas about stringing but I know I need to cut down on paying for stringing job since I have an unused Gamma X-ST just collecting dust.

Thanks

That is what the expert thinks. =)

At 10yo, the kid isn't going to need something like a top-tier string. I'd say something with a thicker gauge that will compensate for the lack of power and provide some softness. A cheap string will do just fine IMO.

Anything but poly in 16 ga or thicker at lower tensions. SG is cheapest and they won't notice the difference between that and multis. If the 10 YO is using a junior sized racquet, and it is not graphite, then definitely in the lower tension range of less than 45 #.

<10 and breaking every two weeks?!

Obviously I don't keep track of how long but it seems to me very often, close to every two weeks. He plays a lot of tennis because he enjoys it. I use various string promos that I got when I bought the X-ST. Mostly cheap strings, nylon, synthetic gut, etc. I don't use Poly because it's very hard. I have poly strung for me at 45 lbs. and I have been using it for over two years now. Of course I don't play as often but those strings last a long time.

So I am going to try the Gamma Synthetic Gut at 16 gauge. I would know more about the different strings if I play them myself but I don't use the same racket so I obviously can't tell. But the Gamma Synthetic Gut 16 probably a starter.

I have been asking the stringer to string his racket at 35 lbs. for his elbow. So I will be doing that for a while until he gets much older.

Some Soft poly strings at very low tensions should not be bad for some better juniors. I would give it a try starting in the low 30s.
