"Best syn gut / poly hybrid"

I'm looking for cheap, power, comfort but good spin with 4-10 hrs of play. I enjoy using comparatively expensive Ashaway Kevlar x Zyex, it is comfy even at relatively high tensions 65/65, but tends to feel a bit "mushy" compared to poly without the poly's slighter better "bite."

However, I find poly/poly hybrids or full bed single poly needing a bit more power on my senior serves. I tried Poly/Zyex but didn't like the feel.

I thought maybe poly in the mains x syn gut crosses might give some bite, comfort and a bit more power at a price that a "poor" fixed income senior rec player can afford (can you hear the violins).

Suggestions?

EdMcMush,

I strung up one of my PCG 107's about about 4 hrs ago with Volkl Cyclone Tour in the mains at 56lbs and OGSM 16 at 62lbs in the crosses. I'll hit tomorrow.

my suggestion is to test a few premium mono core-ish polyamide strings. Try them at a higher tension in a full bed. Once you find a string you like, now you can start the hybridizing phase. Again in this world of subjectiveness....you are are the ruler of the yay or nays..
But if you pull my arm...here is a very short list.
weiss canon new element 5000
babolat origin (not cheap but long lasting)
gosen ak pro cx
Gamma ocho tnt

more on the true multi option...
Babolat excel
alpha gut 2000
Diadem Impluse
isospeed classic control.

note when using a copoly in the hybrid, I suggest a round copoly only.
copoly will be always be the domain string, rounds will be a bit easier on the non-copoly counter part....

whatever you like the feel of...put that in your mains...
tension....that is your job....

"Best" is subjective. Cyclone Tour is one of my all time favourite shaped poly so it's the best for me but many say that it's too springy and too powerful for a poly (I just string it a couple of lbs higher than the other poly that I've used). It looks like it's also a top pick of yours since you posted that you've strung up Cyclone Tour/OGSM, which is a pretty cheap combo anyway. Hope it works out well for you.

Origins lifespan is very dependant on how spinny your game is. It can last forever playing less spin but play can also break after 5-6 hrs.

Disclaimer: have tried this only once

I once tried hybriding Cyclone mains with Polystar Energy crosses and I thought the power was much increased over a full bed of Cyclone and the stringbed was softer and more plush. Polystar Energy is one of the softest and most powerful polys and is also very slippery. However, it has pretty bad tension maintenance.

I ended up cutting it quickly since it came out hotter than I expected. It's worth trying if your cost of stringing is not high. Both Cyclone and Energy are relatively affordable, at least here where I live.

CopolyX, That is the first time anyone has mentioned any of those specific strings to me. Very interesting reading the TW feedback on many of those. I had to look beyond the "usual suspects" I frequent to find the Weiss Cannon NewElement. I appreciate all the other comments as well. After my dogs and I impart our morning mayhem at a local park, I'll go for a hit with the Volkl Cyclone x GOGSM to see what it feels like.

I've been having some good luck with the inexpensive Genesis Pro Advantage poly mains and OGSM crosses.

Both are 16g @ middle tensions in a ProStaff 95s. It has a couple longer plays than a full bed of Pro Advantage.

All court player, medium topspin. Good luck.

I had a good hit today with about 200 practice serves and a good ground stroke practice with one of my fun hitting partners. He said, "Why are your ground strokes coming up higher?" And then he was wondering how I was picking up shots off my shoelaces without too much power. Then he convinced me with, "how in the heck do you keep hitting those backhand serve returns short and wide?" I may sound naive or just plain dumb, but I told him that GOGSM 16g in the crosses at 62lbs x Volkl Cyclone Tour 56lbs are doing the work.
