what do you think is the best synthetic gut string? i herd Gosen OG Sheep's pretty good from a friend, but i want more opinions before I go and buy some. i dont care about durability, but id like something that has really good playability.

come on anyone ellse want to help out and tell me what they know??

I like Babolat Conquest a lot, Gamma syn gut WITHOUT wearguard is good too. Both have good playability, easy to string, average durability, etc.

does anyone know if the og micro looses tention very quickly?

i don't know mate i was using technifibre multifeel 16G and that was aweswome cos it's the closest to natural gut but now i bought a reel of reel gut so i don't need any wannabe natural guts! lol!!

Is your reel 40'? I am unaware of any places that you can find a "reel" of gut.

Multifeel, IMO, is nothing like gut, either. IMO.

As far as OG Sheep non-generic has excellent playability. Lively, soft, and powerful. Spin production is average, Prince's syn guts do a little better in the spin department. I find the feel is a little better from the OG Sheep (330' for $35). The generic plays relatively well across the board, but isn't excellent per se at any one thing. If you are looking for straight playability, there are a few to try. If you don't like the firmer syn guts, you can nix the Prince syn gut w/ DF, Gamma w/ wearguard, Stamina, etc. If you are into the soft stuff, you're probably off into the multifilament land.

Playability is very hard to describe, since it's wildly subjective. What are you looking for in a string, specifically?

I recommend: Alpha MXT, Laserfibre Syn gut, maybe Ektelon powerplay for strict playability.

i don't know how big it is perhaps it's in packets just my stringer told me he got it at a cheap price so wooooo

If you're considering Gosen string, you might pay a bit more and just get Gosen's OG Sheep Micro Super JC, Jim Courier's string. For the best of the more standard syn guts, you might like Prince's Original Synthetic Gut and Wilson's Extreme Synthetic Gut--as long as you're into standard, and not the best, durability...

My list goes like this:

1) OG Micro
2) Ashaway Liberty
3) Klip Kicker
4) Forten Sweet

#1 and #2 being the best for the money
#3 and #4 being the best playing IMHO

Regards,
Steve

I like the Forten Sweet (16) a lot. Nice all-around string and fairly comfortable. I think too much is said about the Prince and Gosen offerings and not enough about the Sweet. In my opinion, the Sweet is superior to anything from either supplier.

Let's say if I am only using these syn gut in cross to hybrid with poly main, can you actually feel the difference? If I were have two identical rackets with identical main strings but different crosses...1)with Gosen OG Micro 17 2)with Forten Sweet 16, can you tell the difference in terms of softness and playability? :)

I try various Poly mains and am now sticking with OG Sheep crosses for all. I doubt I could tell the difference of switching the different brands mentioned for crosses, or that it would be so slight that I would adjust right away. But I know I'm not the most sensitive, when it comes to modifications.

My advice is to try various Poly mains til you find one you like the best, and just use one type for crosses so you can get a good comparison. Then MAYBE later you could try different syn gut crosses. Or even a real gut for crosses, which is on my list farther down the road.

This is what I'm doing now. Trying to find "my" poly for main first and then eventually mess with the cross. Since this post is about syn gut, i'm just curious if people can actually tell the differences between the myriad number of syn gut out there...which I doubt. If that's the case, just get that dang Gosen and not bother with anything else.
