Best Topspin Racket???

I am a high 4.0 in USTA ratings with a pretty severe western grip who puts heavy top spin on both forehand and backhand and hits mostly kick serves. Right now I use the Wilson N Pro Open but am looking for a new racket. Anyone have a recommendation for a racket that produces a lot of topspin, but also has control?

Thanks,

It's not just the racquet. A good bit of the combination is strings. Get the right strings, and any racquet can be a spin machine.

It also has to do with stroke mechanics, and wrist snap.

Just my 2 cents.

As others have stated, the Babolat Aeropro Drive and Pure Drive racquets are pretty nice for hitting topspin as you described. I also used to hit with a pretty extreme western grip, but I was playing with the Dunlop 300 series. The Dunlops also provided great access to topspin. I felt like I had more control with the Dunlops than either Babolat though. I also volleyed much better with the 300s.

just go for a racquet with generally a bigger headsize
( try to stay in the mid-plus range 95-100 )
string pattern helps a bit too. a nice open pattern like 16x19
Strings...some strings grab better then other like Gosen Polylon is pretty hard to get enough spin out of compared to like Alu Rough.

but yeah Technique is key aswell.... but then again massive topspin is not that great for all the time...

i personally use the Pure Drive Roddick with Polylon 17 at the moment. it does a great job producing spin and to me it feels more solid then an APDC.

Im a claycourter hitting insane spin of both wings, ps classic is my favorit stick I can generate unlimited spin with this beast:twisted:

The problem with Babolats is the beam is way too thick. This causes alot of mishits and shanks.
Head YT Spd Pro (If you can handle the swing weight)
Any 16 X 19 string pattern
Try MSV Hex Focus 1.10 it really bites into the ball.

Theres no reason the beams on babolats should cause mishits and shanks unless you are terrible at tennis. If you're missing the sweet spot by so much the balls flying off the frame, then you should be using an advanced level racquet like a APDC...

Well you gotta look at the size and string pattern to say which one has the better spin potential.

For example:with 95 sq in i'd say Yonex RQiS 1 Tour, because it has the 16x18.
MComp 95 has great spin as well,T Fight 320 VO2MAX

98 i'd say the Yonex RDS,any one of them,Fischer M pro Number 1,Tecnifibre 335 16x20(97),Head Youtek Speed Pro

100- Fischer M Tour,Babolat AeroPro Drive,Becker Pro,Youtek Radical .

These racquets are designed for a semiwestern to full western grip. When approaching the ball at an aggressive angle the clumsy 26mm beam can hit the ball before the strings do causing a shank.

I play with a KPS88. I guess beam thickness is a preference. For me thinner is better.

The YouTek Speed Pro uniquely combines a thin beam (18mm), a large headsize (100) and a hefty swingweight (345).

Try it.

In my opinion any form of spin is probably 85% mechanical (technique). Therefore I credit the racket itself, and the strings, to be a minor contributor. If you already hit with a lot of spin then a racket like the Babolat Pure Aero (I'm loving the spin from my Strike) or other rackets people have mentioned will give you a little bit extra.

Pure Aero and Pure Aero Tour. I presently play with the PAT and one of the reasons is the top spin and kick derves i can generate off this racket.

Travlerajm will tell you to string Kevlar/zx, at 50 lbs differential, who am I to argue against that? Look up his Esp thread on that and you won't have to worry about which racket to get

DR98 with 17g poly at about 50lbs will give you a lot of spin and a lot of control because it is stable and low on power. It is also comfortable. Very popular racket.

Much stiffer APD will give you more action but is tougher to control due to very bouncy string bed and more power, also can be jarring to use.

Of course technique is the major factor - however -i n so far as the racquet factor is involved, the new KiQ+ series from Pro Kennex produce amazing RPM. The factory guy suggested that the moving mass in the racquet head kept the racquet head moving upward on impact instead of being slowed down nearly as much at the collision point with the ball. (There are a few slow motion pictures of racquet meeting ball that show the slowing of the racquet head speed upon impact - on You Tube.) The rTW eviews of the new PK KiQ+Pro also indicated that the spin with the PK KiQ+ was exceptional, and that was my experience as well.

You have and I have two things in common:
1) Former Pro Open users and 2) we both play tennis. [emoji6]

Schmke has me rated at 4.04 and tennisrecord.com says 3.99, so maybe we have three or four things in common if you are a guy.

I own (4) Prince Textreme Warrior 100 (16x18) frames and (2) Pure Aeros (16x19). The Prince Textreme Warrior 100 is a solid frame that allows me to hit heavy topspin or flatten out a ball and drive it. I can hit with either but think I get more control out of the 16x18 Prince frame. Both produce plenty of spin.

My son used to play with an Aero Pro Lite (16x19) but plays with PS97LS (18x16). Recently we strung up the old APL and rallied around between the two. I noticed he had more spin on his groundies and spin serves. But he was able to hit more balls IN with the PS97LS. Sounds like there are a lot of good options out there. Just need to determine where you balance point is between spin and control.

Pure aero is as wide a pattern I will go, but it's absolutely great for high kicking spin.

I'm mixed on the PA: when it first came out, I demo'd it and it felt solid and almost pulled the trigger; I demo'd again about 6 months later and it felt hollow with lack of plow and power, like it was an entirely different racquet. Very strange.

I use the plus version. It's incredible to me, and I just love using it. Only mod I did was a few grams of lead in the throat. Doesn't feel hollow at all setup that way. I also use RS Lyon, which feels fantastic in it.

Meh, average spin good control and comfort. I have two.
i do have a very extreme topspin stroke off the backhand and for me it was every bit as good as my old pdr... not painful though

we all produce spin with different mechanics... for those that require low swing weights to produce spin Angells aren't necessarily the best option but if a higher swing weight is no problem the tc100 is a great option

I also hear that he's producing more sticks in the lower swing weight range... paul lets you request.

I may have asked before, so apologies if I have, but how does it volley? I've hit with other extended Babolat frames and they were sluggish at the net; crushed it from the baseline and on serves tho.

I have no issues at all. I volley as well as with any other frame. Actually had some really fast net exchanges today and won all of them.

Yep one of my TC100's was 262 sw unstrung

There is somewhat of a disagreement between control and spin. Most of the popular "spin" rackets don't get much control, and most of the "control" rackets don't get easy access to spin. With what you are playing with now, you might find some familiarity with the Head Extreme MP, Extreme Pro, or the Prince Textreme 100p. I think those have a uniquely good combination of control and spin. The 100p is a dense control frame that happens to get some decent spin, and the Extreme is a spin monster with less precision than a 100p, but noticeably more control than most of the other power / spin frames.

As a side note, putting in all poly with low string tension will give you big spin no matter what your racket is.

Crap, I just responded to something from 2009.

No worries, it was actually valuable info for me. It's either 100p or Extreme Pro for me. I have the Youtek IG 2.0 and I only need to get one if I go with the Extreme Pro. But I have to buy 2 if I go with 100P. Extreme Pro however worries me due to it's higher stiffness rating. Admittedly, I don't have an issue with my 2.0 as far as comfort is concerned as I string really low (low 40s) but not sure about long term. The 100p is definitely more comfortable and I can string lower due to it's denser string pattern without losing control. But it's lighter (I'm coming from a POG 107) and I'm not sure how much I'm going to miss the plowthrough and stability against big hitters. Have you had experience with both?

a pure aero or a textreme warrior is going to be much more "spin friendly" than a 100P. the 100P is more of a low-powered control frame.
