I am looking for a new racquet and the Wilson Blade has caught my eye, however there are so many versions and different string patterns, but which one is the best in your opinion? Would love to hear the whole racquet setup.

My opinion - if you can go into the past - and if you can handle a 18x20 (its not that closed)

2015 Blade V5 18x20 is killer (the 16x19 same gen is very average)

Most important thing with any blade is the swing-weight and balance of the unit you receive relative to what you can handle.

In my admittedly limited experience Blades swing slightly heavier than they actually spec out at.

I played with the V6 18x20 CV and liked it, How does it compare to the V5?

The unit I tried got was crazy high SW and I put it down after 2-3 hits so I cant give you a proper worthwhile comparison.

Multiple better players than me have indicated their preference for the V5 version as well - so I never felt the need to revisit that.

Lets wait for a few more peeps to chime in.

Ah that is a shame. I can get a Wilson Blade V6 non CV for €110 which feels like a good deal. I played with the CV version which I liked, but the non CV seems te be even better

Do not go by my opinion - The Blade V6 non CV has good reviews but anytime a racquet is released like this as a reissue (modified in this case) at a lower price it never gets the attention it deserves.

A better player than me that I used to hit with in group class preferred it over the V7 he was hitting before and dumped all this V7s and got the V6-CVs

I’d like to test the 2015 Blade.

@gold325 , Why is the 18x20 much better than the 16x19 ? And does everybody thinks so?

For instance here:

Post in thread 'Closest current racquet to Blade 98 16x19 2015 version'

@DJTaurus describes the V5 16x19 as the GOAT.

So…?!

Highly subjective. What some people love, others do not. What works for some doesn't work well for others. I think the Blade is a bit of an overrated frame for mass consumption. It's an objectively good racquet that doesn't do anything great which is why it's really good for very high end players that don't need extra assistance from their frames.

I usually play 16x19 so I would go for the v5 16x19 Blade too, unless there is a very good reason not to and prefer the 18x20.

I second that for the V7 18x20. Even better than the V5 that I used to use imo. Incredible buttery feel, predictable response, just the right amount of power. Mine definitely came out a little on the heavy side, but I came to appreciate that.

To the early question about 16x19, I demo'd it alongside the 18x20, and I was surprised by the difference. It was a lot tougher to keep balls in the court with the 16x19, and it felt less consistent too. And it's not as though the 18x20 is lacking for spin. Maybe my technique just doesn't suit that pattern, but if you had to choose one without trying before I'd definitely recommend the denser pattern.

I havent played with nblade so cannot comment. I tried KFactor 98 but it was so stiff and rigid...not my cup of tea.
My favourites are more towards specific patterns not molds.....so.....

1)Blade V5 18X20 or 18x16 GOAT... the sweetspot of dwell time / plush feel / softness / crispness / connection
2)Blade V3 18x20 Raonic GOAT.... to me the most spinny 18x20 Blade i ve used. Top notch feel....closer to V5.
3)Blade V4 18X20 Tsitsipas GOAT.... very stiff....raw feel.....
4)Blade V6 16X19 or 18X16..... unpopular opinion. Very playable frames. Murdering balls.
5)Blade V7 18X20...... amazing plush and crisp feeling stick. So sweet but not top notch ultimate blade control....not that much power too.

In general BLX was my golden feeling racquets (i could play with most of BLX wilsons...Pro Open,Steam,Six One......to me only yonex with DR line produced sth as connected. Or the old youtek heads....soooo solid sticks. Some Prince too here and there but lacked power. BLX were truly soooo good...... high flex without hurting your arm and ultra connected and plush..... makes you wonder the C R A P they are producing nowadays with the promise of protecting your arm.... PURE BS!!!!! Not a single BLX ever tingled my arm,wrist,elbow,forearm.....i dont know what is going on.....have the materials quality they are using going downhill ?..... has to do with the dampening techs they are using ? IF i knew back then i could have stock with 10 V5s and 20 grommet sets and call it a day.

Agree on the consistency of the 18x20 - if I hit a poor shot with my v8 18x20, I know exactly what to adjust on the next ball. When I used to play v8 16x19 I would often get outcomes that I just didn't understand, and I found that frustrating.

I didn't know we were going back in time instead of just choosing from the current lineups of what's available.
2013 Blade 93. Easy choice.
