Best winning percentages for every single surface in 2024

Winner Sinner

Hall of Fame
Among the most interesting end-of-year balance sheets is certainly that of the performance on the various surfaces, outdoor synthetic fields, clay, grass and indoor. 2024 confirms itself as a season dominated by Jannik Sinner but by Italian tennis in general: in fact, if the world no.1 achieved the best percentage of successes on the hard court (outdoor and indoor) and also on grass, there Matteo Berrettini is also the leader of the year on clay in the ratio between victories and defeats. Obviously Alcaraz's success at Roland Garros remains the most significant, but the numbers confirm that the Roman, thanks to his three tournament wins, is the one who had the best performance of 2024 in terms of the number of matches played. Let's take a look in detail.

Sinner's performance on "hard" courts in 2024 is incredible, considering both outdoor and indoor matches, 7 tournaments won with 53 victories and only 3 defeats, for a sumptuous 94.6% of overall successes. These are the best 5 of 2024:

Hard Courts
Player – Winning percentage – Titles – wins and losses
Jannik Sinner – 94.6% – 7 – 53-3
Carlos Alcaraz – 78.4% – 2 – 29-8
Novak Djokovic – 76.2% – 0 – 16-5
Alexander Zverev -75.5% -1 – 40-13
Grigor Dimitrov – 73.9% -1 -34-12

In indoor tournaments (all on hard courts) Sinner had a perfect 2024, with victories in Rotterdam and the ATP Finals, the only two tournaments played. A peremptory 13-0, which earned him a 100% return. Khachanov is the player with the most indoor matches won overall, 14. Here are the best 5 by performance in 2024:

Indoor Hard Courts
Player – Winning percentage – Titles – wins and losses
Jannik Sinner – 100% – 2 – 13-0
Karen Khachanov – 82.4% – 1 – 14-3
Tommy Paul – 80% – 2 – 8-2
Alexander Zverev – 78.6% – 1 – 11-3
Roberto Bautista Agut – 75% – 1 – 9-3

Carlos Alcaraz is the champion at Wimbledon 2024, therefore he achieved the most prestigious success, but in terms of percentage of performance also on the lawns Sinner is the best of the year, thanks to the success in Halle and the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. Musetti on the other hand, thanks to his excellent season on grass certified by the semi-final at the Championships, is the player with the most matches won "on grass", 12. Well done! Top 5 for performance on grass in 2024:

Grass
Player – Winning percentage – Titles – wins and losses
Jannik Sinner – 90% – 1 – 9-1
Carlos Alcaraz – 88.9% – 1 – 8-1
Alex de Minaur – 87.5% – 1 – 7-1
Taylor Fritz – 83.3% – 1 – 10-2
Tommy Paul – 83.3% – 1 – 10-2

Marrakech, Gstaad and Kitzbühel. A magnificent hat-trick on clay which earned Matteo Berrettini the best percentage between victories and defeats on "red" in the season that was recently concluded, with only one defeat (in Monte Carlo). Three 250 tournaments brought home by Matteo, obviously less prestigious than Roland Garros and the Masters 1000, but which certifies how effective our Roman champion was when he played on the surface on which he was born tennis-wise. Baez with 26 is the player with the most overall victories this season, followed by Ruud (24) and Zverev (23). With the Masters 1000 in Rome and the final in Paris, the German was the tennis player with the best results overall, but Berrettini leads the best 5 in terms of performance on the surface in 2024:

Clay
Player – Winning percentage – Titles – wins and losses
Matteo Berrettini – 93.8% – 3 – 15-1
Jannik Sinner – 84.6% – 0 – 11-2
Novak Djokovic – 84.2% – 1 – 16-3
Carlos Alcaraz – 81% – 1 – 17-4
Alexander Zverev – 79.3% - 1 - 23-6

Sinner essentially ended 2024 having the best win percentage on hard surfaces in general, on indoor hard surfaces, and on grass, while on clay his win percentage is second only to that of Berrettini.
Not bad for a player who, according to some, currently remains a hard surfaces specialist who struggles on natural surfaces...
