Better career Chang or Roddick?

Roddick Hands Down

Roddick has had a better career hands down than Chang:

R has more finals
R has won more tournaments (I think)
R is an overall better player than Chang
R longevity will be longer

Roddick, he has ended the year in the top 10 for 7 straight years (probably 8). Chang was top 10 for 5 straight. Roddick is more of a threat on any given surface, even clay. Chang not so much. Roddick has more finals and more slam finals. He also has a better all around game, along with the biggest weapon in tennis, his serve. Chang was just really consistent, and could grind it out. Roddick by far.

Depends on if Roddick wants success, not just luck.......or a dramatic life of just political correctness and emotional turmoil (possibly divorce with model).

that's a tough one, both lost 3 slam finals as well, roddick won titles on all surfaces, chang didn't, and roddick had to play federer in 3 slam finals and 2 other master series finals (and other atp finals aswell), whilst chang didn't.

That's not a very sensible thing to say, as Roddick didn't have to play Lendl, did he? Lol.

R has more finals : No

R is an overall better player than Chang : Is that so obvious ?
R longevity will be longer : Probably, but let's see.

seems even omniscience has its own limits (just teasing)... ;) but i still tend to think roddick's career will be better "at the end".

close one... as roddick's career is not over yet, he will probably win this one at the end ! ;)

let's have a look at some significant stats.

GS
slam W : 1-1
slam F : 4-4
slam SF : 9-8 roddick
slam QF : 16-13 roddick
but... chang made the QF at all slams whereas (so far) roddick's best perf. at RG is a 3th round in his first appearance in 2001 (retired vs hewitt). also, chang has reached the final of 3 of the 4 slams (2 of 4 for roddick).

masters
chang : only went out of the RR stage once in 7 attempts, but made it to the final in 1995.
roddick : 3 semi-finals (2003, 2004, 2007)

titles
chang 34-27
(finals : 58-42)
but roddick has won titles on all surfaces, where as chang never won on grass.

davis cup (if needed)
roddick : 31-11
chang : 8-4
(both only played single matches)

rankings
best : roddick #1, chang #2.
top'5 weeks : 199-172 roddick
top'10 weeks : 369-326 chang

R has more finals : No
R has won more tournaments (I think) : No

I agree, Roddick will most likely surpass Chang. He might even sneak in a slam if he gets very lucky.

based on the overall picture on each of their style and the game they posess. I think Chang had overachieved, while Andy had underachieved. It's too early to compare careers now, given roddick is still playing. but they are very comparable. I really admire just the fact that andy always play davis cup, and chang had a limited role....

and to the guy who called both a cheater, I wanted to know what your favorite players are? let me take a wild guess, you are a big fan of greg rusedski, jeff tarango, and your current favorite player must be novak djokovic. am I right on all 3 counts?

WTF , How did Chang overachieve when there were players like Aggasi / Sampras and other great players in his era. Chang was special , with his speed and agility , he fully deserve the career he achieved.

As much as I love Roddick , he is a one-dimensional player . He need to show more on the court rather than wasting his time on politic issues.....
