nalbandian retired in the SF which is why I didn't put it there.

How the hell did Soderling choke ? When Fed hit 4 aces in a row in the 2nd set TB ?

davydenko did choke - but then its not that fed didn't do anything

delpo was playing insanely well in the RG 2009 SF - there is no way in hell that gets excluded in such a list.

Soderling made lots of unforced errors, which he hadn't against Nadal or throughout the tournament. He really choked big time, not because of Federer but because of the occasion.

Did Nalbandian retire in that match where Federer hit that famous backhand?

Really, Davydenko has choked so many times against Federer it's actually incredible. This is just my opinion but I actually think Davydenko is far more talented than either Federer or Nadal, but he is mentally so weak he will never win even one slam.

Ok, I took that out of context, my bad.

Hey, no worries mate. It's just that some of the people on this board get a bit carried away. There is no doubt that Nadal is a great clay court player (The best of all time in my opinion). I also do not think that Federer would just blow Guga off the court as if it were a forgone conclusion.

I'd say Andrew Roddick is the best clay courter of all time.

Roddick had the talent. He is one of most gifted guys to have ever played tennis. Shame he never had the mental game to go along with that game of his. Tennis is a mental game. Look at Federer, he did not have the talent that Roddick/Hewitt have, but he made up for it by hardwork and mental strength.

Bruguera would fed Fed´s BH with an unpalatable diet of high bouncing, fast rolling top spin BH.And Sergi´s FH was better than Nadal´s...so, figure out the outcome...

History-trolls have completely lost touch with the actual world.

Or they just found a semi-historical thread on General Pro and thought they would come and troll it...

which is true?

You´ve never seen top Bruguera play his best on clay court. He destroyed Agassi just from his FH...what happened to Nadal against Djokovic FH? jajajajaja:)

Obviously option 1...

The first match I remember watching was Becker-Lendl in W (probably around 87)...so quite a few...

It was in 86.Now, even if , over 10 games, Nadal would probably beat Bruguera more than losing to him, on a given day, Bruguera was as good a clay courter as any other of those that have been mentioned over those pages. So, there is no reason not to believe that he couldn´t beat Roger, specially since Fed´s weakness goes straight into Sergi´s strengths. He beat the best crop during his 2 FO wins. And believe me, it is much more difficult to beat Courier ( as Bruguera did over 5 sets) in a FO final ( Courier had won 2 before losing the 93 final), than crushing that swedish guy...Soderling, who has never won anything in his life worthy.See my point???

1. It was also in 88.
2. I was laughing at your statement that "Sergi's forehand is better than Nadal's". Your above post is completely irrelevant.

How many times have you seen prime Bruguera LIVE ( like against Agassi,Courier etc) and prime Nadal Live? I´ve seen both, so come up with something better and leave your ********* vest in your closet.

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the funniest thing I've read on this forum.

Aphex a Nadal follower, this is just too good.

I'm a ******* and proud of it, thank-you-very-much.

I am more honest - or have watched much more tennis than you- and while admitting Nadal is a greater player than Bruguera, I also consider Bruguera one of the best clay courters of the last 30 years. One thing does not go against the other.

One more time: I'm not disputing all that.

I'm disputing your statement that Bruguera's FH is better than Nadal's.

Bruguera won the french over Courier, Federer over Soderling.

Plus, again, beat Courier in the semifinals in 1994 before winning his second FO.

Courier had won the former 2 RG tournaments ( plus 2 AO ) while Sodelring has won nothing worth mentioning up now.

I admit Fed´s played more FO finals than Sergi, but his record overall on clay is simply not as good.of course Federer could beat Bruguera anytime on clay, but the opposite is also true.

I assume that by avoiding to answer me, you acknowledge that I was right and you were wrong.
It usually is that way, don't feel bad. Next time you'll know better and you won't waste both of our time...

You are worng APHEX, BECAUSE HAVE GIVEN ME NOT SINGLE CLUE why Nadal ´s Fh is better than Sergi´s.Do you even compare federer record on clay vs Courier? jajajaj ROFL¡¡¡¡

I have also not given you a single clue why pink unicorns do not exist.
That does not mean they do...

what a troll¡¡¡ the only thing you know about tennis is that you need a racket and a small ball to play it.Other than that....you could be posting in the National Geographic blog and it wouldn´t make any difference.jajajajaja

I also know that Nadal's FH is better than Bruguera's.

But even mentally challenged chimps know that.

I don't know why you have trouble understanding this simple fact...

I do not agree with NadalAgassi. Federer was in 4 straight FO finals, and, the only person stopping him from winning more than 1 was Nadal, a guy considered one of the top 2 players of all time on the surface.

To me, his ability to defend and be offensive would give anyone trouble.. I dont think Bruguera would be able to hang with Federer much at all.. and to say Courier is better than Federer is laughable. Courier bowed out to SAMPRAS on clay at the FO... Federer would wipe the floor with both of them

additonally, Federer would make Muster and Kuerten work very hard.. if they were able to beat him at all.

Kuerten beat federer in 04 the FO. 04 was one of feds best years and guga was past his prime. I think it's fair to say that guga in his prime was at least equal to fed on clay. Much better one handed BH:D.

dont mix Simians and Nadal in the same post. you might have to face the wrath of the GO-Nads army, as they dont seem to have great logic skills!!

Yzaga beat Sampras in 94 at the USO. 94 was one of Pete's best years and Yzaga never entered a prime. I think it's fair to say that if Jaime had ever entered a prime, he would be at least equal to Pete on hardcourts.

You mean the people who have never called Federer arrogant or big-nosed or a sissy? yeah, we don't want to offend those people...

You left out the last part. :)

or married with a whale\cow, bathroom break cheater.... you have been here for almost the same time as me. you know their class and their analitical views of tennis and life!!!!

research shows that as humans grow older and older, they start to resemble babies more and more (especially over 70) ...... in the mental department

on a completely unrelated note, kiki has been watching tennis since the dinosaur years??

Not, just from the early 70´s ( unfortunately, didn´t catch up Gonzales,Kramer,Budge or Tilden). You know, a tyranosaur like Laver or Connors would have the todays top 10 as a starter for breakfast, and that would happen ...even in internet¡¡¡¡

You'd have to be at least 100 years old to catch Tilden. /facepalm/

So, you started watching tennis after Laver won his last major...
Your "historical perspective" on Laver and the current top 10 is quite useless I'm afraid.

¿Why? Laver in 1970 and 1971 was just as good as he was in 1969, he just didn´t have the will, patience or strength to go for a wild ride again. But, as a player, there was no difference. And Rosewall won some GS in the early 70´s too.

Thanks for confirming you started watching tennis after Laver won his last major,
thus rendering your previous comparison useless.

You welcome.Fortunately, I watched tennis for enjoyment, not as a computer like many of today´s newcomers.

Does it bother you if I said, f.i, that Lauren Bacall was much better an actress than Angelina Jolie? or that marlon Brando was a much better actor than Jim Carey ?

Art does not necessarily become better with time.

Tennis players/sportsmen do.

yeah, Kobe or Lebron better than MJ ? any center today comparable to Jabbar,Chamberlain,Russell ? any of today´s boxers better than Ali,Foreman,Holmes? today´s golf players better than Nicklaus,Watson,Ballesteros ? great, go on, please.

How can I put this in terms that even you will understand?

I'm not disputing the greatness of Laver at his own time, this is what we use to measure greatness after all. What I'm saying is: put 1969 Laver in a court with 2011 DelPotro and he would get double bageled in 20 minutes.

Your level of comprehension is amazing.I´ve seen many posters unable to make a reasonable argument but you outclass them.Put under the same equipment Laver and Del Potro on true grass, true indoors and Del Potro would be trying to understand where the balls are coming at him from.Maybe they would have a competitive match on hard, even clay...that´s the most I can concede.

Ok, ok...he'd probably get a game on fast grass...you've convinced me...

*******s again showing their astoudning knowledge on the game. This is so bad it would make a good sig though.

While I think Bruguera was an excellent clay-courter, i'd have to pick Fed as he seems to be able to produce some unbelievable tennis against everyone except Nadal (mental choke) in recent years on clay courts.

Seems.... It's all smoke and mirrors. Think of how Roddick looked when he played Lu, or F-Lo, then think of him vs Federer in a slam final.
