We’re essentially comparing 2015 Fed to 2021 Djokovic, really. As it stands, it’s not close at all. Check out the big tournaments:

AO: Novak, Fed lost to Seppi.
IW: 2021 IW delayed so no verdict yet. Fed did play well at IW 2015 so Novak would need to put in a good performance.
Miami: pointless comparison since both of them skipped it
Monte-Carlo: Fed by a hair but they were both bad
Madrid: I guess Fed wins by default considering he played it while Djokovic skipped it but there’s not much in it considering he lost in the opening round
Rome: Fed was better pre-final, Novak was better in the final.
French Open: Novak clearly better, Fed was uninspiring throughout

See, based on the Slams so far, it’s clearly Djokovic. I wanna see how Djokovic holds up, though, because Fed massively improved in the second half of the season.

If the comparison is at 33, Fed probably wins.

Djokovic has only been 34 for a month ;)

Federer turned 34 in August 2015 but I’ll include Wimby 2015+15 USO, and both of those were good runs. Then he had the knee/back issues causing him to miss 2016 RG and USO. So it will clearly be Djokovic barring injury.

Why is this even a question?
There is the argument flowing that because the competition is so weak right now Djokovic level isn't relevant to win slams. I'm now giving a reason for fellow posters to measure Nole level by using another ATG to compare.

Djokovic has been better than Federer at every age. Djokovic's standard of play when he is 40 and retired would embarrass the current Federer.
Federer was done at 29, aside from '17 he's never been the best in the world since then. Djoks currently holds 3 slams + should be 4

2015 Fed had an amazing Summer/Fall like you said. Djokovic will have to play at a high level

How so? Djoko wins RG and AO by a substantial margin. UO is the DQ and Fed lost to Cilic in straights and went 5 with La Monf so not exactly great. Djokovic didn't get his chance at W so unfair to assume 14 W Fed automatically better. Djokovic was also damn good outside the slams winning ATP Cup, Dubai, Cinci, and Rome.

It's a tough comparison but I think Fed ultimately impressed me more throughout the year. Djokovic wasn't impressive at all to me after the tour resumed (he didn't play particularly well at Cincy and the Rome draw made him look way better than he was; Fed wasn't perfect in Cincy 2014 but I felt he was better) and it felt like he was sleepwalking to whatever big tournament he came by (save for the freak DQ and Nadal on clay). Before the lockdowns, though, Djokovic looked pretty good.

Most of the tournaments where Fed played really well were the ones that Novak missed out on so all I'm going on is what I saw of both players in the tournaments they did play.

Djokovic of today vs Federer of 2015 would be a fun matchup maybe Federer favourite at Wimbledon or Us open as well
Yeah, i think it could be very interesting. I was not in this forum at the time but i think Fed was the favorite by posters of this forum in the 2015 finals.

"Better" and "more successful" aren't the same thing

37y11mo Federer can get double MP on 32yo Djok, can't imagine 32yo Fed doing worse

Federer fans couldn’t imagine Djokovic or Nadal winning slams after turning 30 either, but we all know how that turns out.
I don't understand how that's related though. Some people were wrong about something and that means that others will be wrong about something else? That's literally only true in the very vaguest way. This is a totally different question.

It means Fed fans’ imagination is overrated. That’s all.

I guess, but that's not really an answer.

Fed at Djoker's current age was better than Djok is now, but he literally had both of them at ages 27/28 while Djok has no real threats outside of crippled Fred and Rafa. So he wasn't as successful and the fact that he did win more Slams is a miracle.

It’s spot on, considering the point being that the things you can or can’t imagine do not make a convincing argument.

Well, anyone who couldn't imagine Djok/Dal winning in their 30s was either a total idiot or just wishful thinking.

On Grass 2015 Fed would thrash 2021 Djokovic
On HCs it would be close, 50-50
On Clay Djokovic 2021 would beat 2015 Federer

Federer unnecessarily nerfed himself by switching to half-volley-every-groundstroke playing style after 30, to preserve 'longevity'. If he had known that 34 year old Nadal & Djokovic would still be easily grinding their way to Grand Slams & #1 ranking as they were doing at 24, we would have seen some better tennis by Federer.
But as reality stands, the answer is Djokovic...

Djokovic ofc. Is that even a question?
But i don't see Djokovic at 36 winning 2 slams, and having such a great season, as well as playing at that level at what Federer was playing at 2017. It was a fresh air winter.
As i said it before i think this and the next year will be the last one Nadal and Djokovic have real chances at Slams.

Djokovic was better than Federer at every age except 23 (Federer's 2004 vs Novak's 2010) and 30 (Federer's 2011 vs Novak's 2017).
