Bianca Andreescu: under the radar but not for long!

I didn't know SHE qualifies to play Men's tennis...but since you ask...her mental toughness would CRUSH any of your Canadian Men's players... Always one dum-dum in these threads :-D and your IT ...BBSV
Pretty amusing to have a dunce suggest anyone else is dumb, thanks for the laugh. In absolute terms obviously you were wrong but instead of having the sense to acknowledge the tours really shouldn't be compared, you doubled down with even more stupid.

Bencic on loss to Andreescu: 'She totally deserves to be in the final'

Yes, I realized that when I looked at the final score and Bencic had failed to win either set. That means Andreescu won. Hold on, let me double-check...
Yes, there is no mistake. Andreescu appears to have won the match.

She is #4 in the Race now and perhaps will secure her spot for the Finals. If she wins the USO she will still be #4 but only 50-60 points behind Halep and Pliskova going into China leg where there are a lots of points at play.
If she carries forward the momentum for another 2 months and she goes deep or wins another title(s) she could finish the year at #1. As amazing as it sounds, this is a possibility and perhaps history making event if it happens.

Nothing short of extraordinary season for Andreescu. I hope she keeps it up and backs it up next season.

if she wins i would like her to have a rest and dont play the whole asian swing to avoid injury.

I remember watching Bianca playing live in a challenger tournament here in Canada back in 2017 and only year ago in 2018 she was ranked somewhere like 208. Now she's the USO womens champion....just unreal and congrats! #She the North

Thank you guys

BTW, now three of the ladies championed by threads started by yours truly
have become Grand Slams champions:

Simona Halep
Bianca Andreescu
Garbine Muguruza

However, with all my luck in reading the intentions of the Gods of Tennis, I have to recognize that Bianca left me
open-mouthed. I never in a million years would have predicted this gradient. Honest

Congratulations, Bianca!!

Amen to that!

If she would only keep going for the next two months and shoot for YE#1. She can really do it (although, personally, I would prefer Halep to get the YE#1 this season). I hope she enjoys her new found fame and wealth responsibly and keeps going and remains focused on her tennis for the next little while. Put off all the off-court distractions for another 2 months until the end of the season.

Good call by the OP, but I think the title needs to change. Bianca is very clearly no longer under the radar.

Great run to the championship.

Indeed. She reminds me of Monica Seles in her mental fortitude, which separates her from the rest of the field. She doesn't know what she can't do. She has no doubts.
I said to my wife during the match "this is Monica Seles reborn" in terms of her not being intimidated by more experienced great players or an incredibly high pressure moment. I can't imagine this kid being a flash in the pan or a disappointment... but I've been wrong before.

Funny enough... Monica Seles was in the stands for some of her matches....

Nice 538 article on Andreescu here:

Some notable observations:

"Andreescu is 8-0 against players ranked in the WTA Top 10. Going undefeated against the tennis elite to start a career is rare for even top players. Serena Williams went 5-3 in her first eight Top 10 matches, while Venus Williams won two and lost six. Monica Seles was 4-4, Steffi Graf was 2-6, and Maria Sharapova didn’t win a match, a perfect (or perfectly imperfect) 0-8."

"According to the WTA, Seles was the last woman to win a major in her debut, winning the Australian Open in 1991 at the age of 17."

Driving around town on a coolish day yesterday in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada and noticed that all the tennis courts were full with people waiting. This is the Bianca effect.
