Bianca Andreescu!

I've recently been watching a young player from Canada named Bianca Andreescu, who just broke into the top 100.

She's amazing. GREAT athlete, solid strokes, decent serve for 5' 7", positive attitude (for the most part lol).

How far do you guys think she can go?

I'm thinking she could win a couple slams in her career if she keeps improving.

She is fun to watch. You’d think she’d be a defender, but she thinks offense first. Bright future.
Just a side note, what do you think the comparisons are between the Tennis Canada player development budget and the USTA’s? Canada has FAA on the men’s side and Andreescu on the women’s side and we have.......nothing.

Good question.
I don't have the answer for that. I don't follow it closely.
But as you said, the difference is quite amazing given the likely difference in budgets.

I'm really excited about FAA and Andreescu. They shine well above all the rest of the Canadians currently.
And their confidence, composure and attitude on court is exemplary.

Ummm.. America has a lot of successful up and coming women. It’s just the men letting you down.

Remember Anismova from the Australian Open? Younget player in the top 100. You’ve also got Coco Gauff who is the youngest player to make a junior slam final at the age of 13!

The difference is that Andreescu is there now, 1 title, 1 final and the most match wins on the WTA Tour this season, we are still waiting for Anisimova and the age difference between the two is 10 months.
Let’s pump the breaks on Coco Gauff, the list of 14 year old American tennis stars who haven’t become top level players is as long as my arm.

Ok well your research skills need a lot of work:
1: Andreescu is a year and 2 months older than Anismova, not 10 months.
2: Andreescu doesn't have a WTA title, it's a 125K title which is ranked a tier below the top tier women's tournaments. It's the equivalent of a challenger title.
3: Anismova made a tour final in September of last year while Andreescu was still on the ITF tour so she's been "there now" for a while which is why she's the youngest in the top 100. She also made the 4R of Indian Wells last year with a massive win over Kvitova.

And Anismova made the 4R of a slam while Andreescu lost in the 2R. Both players have the same amount of top 10 wins (1), Anismova has more top 25 wins (4) vs Andreescu's 3 (two of which came this week).

I'm a massive Andreescu fan but no reason to discount Anismova as nothing for America. And I threw Gauff's name into the mix to show just how young their stars are breaking through. There's many more American females I can name who are on the rise for the future. Not as big as Bianca and Amanda but still working their way up more than the American men.

My apologies on having their dates of birth wrong.
125K tourneys are part of the WTA Tour, they are on the WTA calendar means they are part of the tour.

You are missing my bigger point on this issue, it's not a Anisimova-Andreescu thing, it's that at right this moment Tennis Canada is producing top level players on both tours, where the USTA is not. Simple as that !!!

WOW amazing how many people have jumped on my Bianca thread after she upset MAGU yesterday. Welcome aboard!

I started this thread back in January and not one comment for over 2 months, Where were you all then???

Anyways, I just got back from Indian Wells and the first practice court I headed for was Andreescu's on day 1 of the tourney.

She had absolutely no one watching her except for our family, Unlike all the other practice courts which were totally packed with fans.

My Daughter got to speak to Bianca and she was so nice. She signed her visor and even asked her name, so she could make it out to her.

Great to know I saw something in her before a lot of the so called "EXPERTS" on here :)

GO BIANCA!!!

PS I'm not Canadian or Romanian LOL

It's impossible to judge WTA players at this stage. How many wonder kids have there been that either went nowhere in particular after early hype, or blazed brightly, quickly, then fizzled out? Too many.

If you can't see the off the charts power/athleticism & tennis IQ in Bianca Andreescu, you're blind.

Multiple slams in her future.

BANK IT!

Amen to that. Her post match comments also make me think she's gonna be one of the greats. What most struck me was her statement that she's constantly reevaluating what her opponent is doing and not doing during a match and altering her game accordingly and if she identifies something that is working she will ruthlessly exploit it. She's not just playing her game, she's playing chess at a very high and calm level.

Exactly!

Most girls are just trying to mindlessly hit hard shots side to side to open up space for a winner.

Bianca uses the whole court to win a point. Hits 4 hard shots in a row. Then a looper. Then a dropper. She has their heads spinning lol.

I see a Sanchez Vicario level or higher career for this babe.

Don't forget Shapovalov - he's been shining pretty brightly for a couple of years now, but yeah, FAA and Bianca are certainly exciting.

For the most part Bianca pretty composed on court but I've certainly seen her act out a few times and she does her diva drama and racquet have been broken. Felix, on the other hand, yes he's very composed. He reminds me of Rafa in that he's very intense but doesn't act out. I haven't see all his matches but quite a few and I don't recall him throwing any tantrums or smashing his racquet or getting into any arguments with the umpires. He's so polite and is so good with the fans.

You don't need to be a choir boy to win slams....Novak Djokovic comes to mind.

Lots of different personalities can win in tennis.

I did watch Felix at IW and I do believe he will win some slams though.

Good for you.

You probably also picked Genie Bouchard to be the next GOAT, with your Canadian bias lol.

Please recuse yourself from this discussion as you can't possibly have an objective opinion with all that maple syrup running through your veins.

What's the matter, a new user doesn't trust a Semi-Pro here?

Enjoy! :)

Sorry you were a little late to the party.

OK "Tennis Guy" keep posting on the dark web lol

Seems weird you never posted about Andreescu on this site, until she made a big semi, if you're such a BIG fan of hers.

BIANCA INTO THE IW FINALS!!!

Mentally stronger than the #6 player in the world.

She's making the rest of the WTA look like community college players lol

This happens every few months on the WTA. Someone gets hot and beats everyone before fizzling out. Hopefully she can sustain some kind of level.

Last year we had Osaka breaking through at Indian Wells, this year Andreescu fills her place. Hopefully they both keep improving and have a great rivalry as the two new leaders of the womens game.

Listen, you were owned. Get over it!

I post to several tennis sites. I don't think carefully before I make a post that some idiot will make a similar post on another site,
at a later time, and then boast that he owns the topic! That he was the first person in the world to think of it.

I am Canadian. I got wind of Andreescu earlier than most, back in January when I was driving in my car listening to the radio.
Her dad was being interviewed, as this is a big thing for Canadians. I hadn't heard of her up until that time.

This site is not the be all and end all of tennis, as weird as that may seem to you.
I proved to you I posted about her before you did. Your ego just doesn't seem to be able to take it, that's all.

This will be the last time I ever extend one of your posts. I did it, just for the sake of tidiness, to keep the number of posts on Bianca to a minimum.
Next time I'll start my own.

I'm Canadian and I was watching her play last year and saying she was going to be better than Bouchard soon. Sooner than I thought but she's been on the Canadian radar for the last couple years as an up and comer.

WOW you really went out on a limb predicting your own Canadian #1 would be a good player some day, on a site no one has ever even heard of LOL.

Me being an American & saying a Canadian not named Bouchard will be the next big thing in women's tennis, before it happened, is a different story.

You played it safe on this site and didn't jump on the Bianca bandwagon until after she made a big semi.

Go back to your ice cave and suck on a maple leaf.
