Big 12

Any details? Injury? Illness? Quit the team?

I am guessing he will be available tomorrow. He was just out today as far as I know. Jackson State was no threat. When I said they don't need him, I should have been a little more clear and meant they do not need him today. I may be 50 but I am probably competitive with the bottom of Jackson State's lineup.

Pretty sure we just didn't need him. We sat TJohnson in singles also. TCU twitter used a picture of Rybakov to announce the start of play today.

Big XII is looking really good. Nearly then entire league is into the Sweet 16. Baylor is probably the only team to not make it and they still made it to the Round of 32.

Good depth, but I don't think the round of 16 will go too well. TCU should be favored.

I think there's a decent chance all big 12 teams lose first round... in odds of likelihood, Oky State to UVA, UT to Ohio State, OU to Wake, TCU to Cal

It is not impossible but I think TCU is about 70% they will advance. I give Oklahoma about 45% chance. Okie Lite and Texas have gone as far as they can and actually they have overachieved. So far, I think TCU has lived up to expectations and Oklahoma has not lived up to expectations.

If OU plays like they are capable, they should beat Wake but they haven't shown that kind of consistency this year.

Oklahoma State women advanced to the finals and Oklahoma men in the semis. I never knew Oklahoma was such a hotbed of NCAA tennis. Football? Sure the state is among the best every year. The basketball teams have definitely earned respect over the years but never thought of Oklahoma as a tennis state.

Ou with a healthy Harris might be the best team

I think they need both a healthy Andrew Harris and last year's Axel Alvarez. Harris is still not 100% but still looking pretty good. Alvarez is nowhere close to what he was like last year. He was machine like and pretty close to a guaranteed singles point last year. He is still formidable but nothing like his ridiculous record from last year.

I think you're right. At 1 this year, he's probably about as effective as Ryan Shane has been for Virginia, which is definitely not as good as last year. The move to 2 has served him well in the first match against Wake. He played very well against a very good solid Chrysochos, to a point that the guy shrugged his shoulder telling the coach at one point in the 2nd set "I can't get anything past this guy". Redlicki played very well yesterday, I was not impressed with the manner, but was impressed by his serve, FH and especially the BH which i thought was a weak point in his game.

Redlicki is a left handed Isner type player and when those guys are serving well, they are extremely tough to beat. Redlicki types are the worst kind of matchup for Alvarez. Alvarez likes to grind you into the dirt with great movement. When Redlicki is serving well, it is hard to grind Redlicki because he gets so many free points off his serve so you don't get to wear him down.

I think Montgomery is a better matchup for Alvarez. Montgomery does not get the advantage of 2 free service points most games. Montgomery is still very good and definitely not a gimme match but it is a more favorable matchup.

I just am not sure how this match will go. It likely comes down to the winner of the doubles point. I mentioned on this site that Oklahoma was the one lower seed that had to scare some teams.

Alvarez is not anywhere close to where he was last year. Serve seems to have much less pop. Just throwing in slices mostly..I don't know if it's a confidence issue or an shoulder injury. But last year he would not trade breaks and lose serve at love.

Alvarez is nowhere near the player he was last year. I am unsure what it is but he has one match left in his outstanding college career so I hope he has a little magic left. as I said in a different thread, the bottom of the OU lineup just doesn't beat itself. None of them look like they have a prayer of making the tour but they sure put a lot of balls in play and ever quit.

Bragusi has ice in his veins. Last six service games went to deuce..6/6

WOW!!! I did not realize that. That is possibly the most impressive stat I have ever seen. It isn't like he has Oosterbaan's serve.

If you watch Bragusi, he doesn't appear to have much game. His serve is mediocre. He rarely hits with real authority. He just gets to a lot of balls and keeps making you hit another all until you have had enough.

I thought Alvarez would roll over Montgomery again based on the 6-1 6-1 beating last year. And I know that Alvarez is not as sharp this year but I remember watching a good bit of that match last year and it was not about someone having a good or bad day it was a fundamental matchup issue for Montgomery. So I was shocked to see Montgomery comeback and rally for the win. Alvarez just is not the same this year and he will need a big effort to beat Altamirano.

Don't know if I agree with the fundamental matchup issue, as Montgomery had beaten Alvarez earlier this year as well as before the beatdown last year. Regardless, the Montgomery comeback was impressive. I agree that he is not as sharp as last year, but I'm actually picking him to beat Altamirano for the upcoming match.

At this point, I would put Oklahoma State above Oklahoma. Oklahoma State gave Wake all it wanted (lost 3-4) and this weekend they beat Alabama 7-0 easily. Oklahoma was beaten by Wake 7-0 and Alabama gave them more trouble than they should. I also think if TCU has everyone, they are as good as anyone. Norrie and Rybakov make a very tough 1-2. Regardless, it is a very competitive conference; the top 5 could beat each other on any given day.. Tech is underachieving but they still have a talented roster. I am not sure what is wrong as I expected more this year.

We lost all of our top players over the last 2 years, and Masi has not recruited players yet to replace them. We lost Soares and Dojas who were our big 2 last year. Both All Americans, NCAA doubles finalist, ITA indoor Doubles Champions. Our #4 is playing 1, our #5 is playing 2. It will take Masi time to rebuild the team. We have some talented guys, just not the caliber of the Brazilians we had the past 4 years.

Texas Tech's Brazil pool seems to be drying up. Once that happens they you guys are toast as a program.

Our Brazil pool is gone. Felipe and Hugo were our last 2. We were getting them all because of Marcello. When he got the head job at Pepperdine we lost Brazil. They were his last 2 recruits. We picked up one from Brazil after Marcello left but he only lasted one year.

Big XII looks very good but nobody looks like a contender to win the NCAAs. I am curious to how TCU does when Norrie is back full time. Norrie and Rybakov are probably the best 1 & 2 in the conference For Oklahoma, Harris has not played the last two matches. Is he hurt again?

As I see it, there is no real favorite to win the conference. Texas, Oklahoma, TCU, Oklahoma State and Baylor are all pretty close. Tech has definitely taken a step back.

too sad that Texas Tech will not make it, they will be #30 or so in the Rankings, but under .500 ....only Chance is to win the whole tournament after beating Baylor twice in 5 days. Cailleau is lights out right now.

Poor scheduling on Texas Tech's part. Should have scheduled some wins, because they are definitely playing like an NCAA team right now.

Took the coach a while to get the lineup right. The guys have been clicking the last few weeks. Should be a little better next year. Only losing 2 seniors, and already have them replaced. Tommy will most likely be #1, and would have been this year if not for the legal mess. Girls are on fire right now as well. The whole starting lineup will be back next year for the girls.
