Big 3 - Highest level in each major final

The_Order

G.O.A.T.
They've been in the final at each major at least 5 times each.

Out of all their appearances, which final did they play at their highest level and what would you rate it out of 10? Keep in mind, they may not necessarily have won the match they produced their highest level in...

I'll kick it off with my ratings:

Nadal:
AO:
09 (9.5/10)
RG: 08 (10/10)
WIM: 08 (9.5/10)
US: 10 (9/10)

Djokovic:
AO:
19 (10/10)
RG: 12 (7/10)
WIM: 11 (9/10)
US: 11 (9.5/10)

Federer:
AO:
09 (9/10)
RG: 11 (8/10)
WIM: 07 (9.5/10)
US: 04 (10/10)

Nadal:
AO: 09 (9.5/10)
RG: 08 (10/10)
WIM: 07 (10/10)
US: 11 (9/10)

Djokovic:
AO: 12 (10/10)
RG: 15 (9/10)
WIM: 15 (9.5/10)
US: 11 (9.5/10)

Federer:
AO: 07 (9.5/10)
RG: 11 (8/10)
WIM: 05 (9.5/10)
US: 04 (10/10)

Nadal:
AO: 09 (9.5/10)
RG: 08 (10/10)

US: 11 (9/10)

Djokovic:
AO: 12 (10/10)
RG: 15 (9/10)
WIM: 15 (9.5/10)
US: 11 (9.5/10)

Federer:
AO: 07 (9.5/10)
RG: 11 (8/10)
WIM: 05 (9.5/10)
US: 04 (10/10)

Hahaha. W 07 is not outlandish but that was not more effective tennis than W 08. Nadal knew he could beat Fed if he just exploited his backhand instead of going for outright winners every point.

Federer
AO 07 (9.5)
RG 06 (7.5)
W 03 (10)
USO 04 (10)

Nadal
AO 09 (9.5)
RG 08 (10)
W 08 (9)
USO 10 (9)

Djokovic
AO 11 (10)
RG 12 (8.5)
W 15 (8.5)
USO 11 (9)

Nadal
Ao-09 9.5
Rg-08-10
Wimbledon-08 9.5
Uo- 10 9
Djokovic
Ao-19 10
Rg- 16 9
Wimbledon-15 9
Uo- 11 9.5
Federer
Ao- 07 9.5
Rg- 11 9
Wimbledon- 05 10
Uo- 04 10

For the highest level displayed in the final, I'd go with

Roger :-

AO :- 2007
FO :- 2009
Wimbledon :- 2003
US open :- 2006

The greatest warrior of tennis world, Nadal :-
AO :- 2009
FO :- 2008 (jesus Christ!!)
Wimbledon :- 2007 ≈ 2008 (Roger's level was the reason behind difference in outcomes)
US open :- 2013 (best HC strategies)

Djokovic :-
AO :- 2011
FO :- 2013 (virtual final)
Wimbledon :- 2015
US open :- 2011

I can totally see this thread blowing up at some point when the usual suspects parade in lol.

My views:

French Open: 2007 (8.5/10)
Wimbledon: 2003 / 2005 / 2007 (9.5/10)
US Open: 2004 (10/10)

Nadal

French Open: 2016 (8.5/10)

Murray of 2016 was very impressive on grass lol. Was 31-5 in sets that year.

Rogers highest AO final level is one where he sank like the Titanic in the fifth?

I actually think when it comes to losing efforts Novak’s RG13 and Nadal’s W18 semi finals which were really finals in all but name were possibly better than any final performance they ever had at those tournaments.

The responses here indicate Big3 have different peaks, with some overlapping between Federer and Nadal.

Federer: 04-09
Nadal: 07-10
Djokovic: 11-16

i would replace that with "nadal's knee condition".......

Err these are becoming quite frequent threads , effect of the off season?

Only from the ones I have watched.

Nevertheless:

Djokovic:

AO 2019 (but 2013 SF, 2011 SF 2016 SF ,2008 SF seem to be overall better performances , especially 2016. I find it a bit overrated since Nadal was hyperventilating for 2 sets)

RG 2016 (I haven't watched any of his RG F except 2012 and 2015 so just picking the one he won )

USO 2011( By miles and miles. Nadal was a relentless physical beast , to outmatch him physically after a SF like that and to impose his will on him and make him look helpless is an outstanding achievement)

Nadal

AO : 2009 ( Much more dynamic and way more aggressive on BH than 2012 and just a shade faster too)

RG : Of all I have watched , RG 2012. (The rain ruined his perfect performance but before that he was bullying a very good Djokovic and being much more aggressive than usually)

USO : 2010 by far. 2013 could have slipped from his hands.

Federer:

AO : 2009 (Haven't seen his 2004,2006,2007 F and he was better in 2009 than 2010. Just like always couldn't win a match he should have won)

RG : 2007 F (A heavily underrated match due to the inevitablity associated with the match up, but his BH held good and he actually for first two sets was overwhelming Nadal from Baseline , and this was on warm sunny clay. Not sure of Anyone has done this except Thiem in 2019 )

WB : Probably 2007 or 2003. At least these are the matches I like. 2012 for the last two sets was very very good.

USO : 2004.

Federer's AO 07 was very close to a 10, and higher than Djoker's AO 2019. IMO Djokovic's 2011 was also close to a 10, and 2019 more like a 9. Rafa's RG 08 was an 11, LOL if there's such a thing...that's the benchmark of the most absolute highest level one can achieve. More or less agree with everything else.

Nadal:
AO: 09 (9.5/10)

WIM: 05 (9.5/10)

So Nadal was a 10/10 at W2007 but lost to a Fed that must have been 9.5 or below??

That was a hot take but what’s really outlandish is USO 2011. Nadal clearly better in USO 2013 and USO 2010, when he was capable of being aggressive on the backhand side and serving with confidence...clearly not the case in USO 2011

He was at his best in the 3rd set, though. Both were.

He was at his best in the 3rd set, though. Both were.
That was his best set of the USO 2011 match sure. The only difference was that he was trying to crush every forehand. He was still moonballing backhands and serving meh which is a recipe for disaster against Novak.

Something like this for me.

Federer:
AO: 07 (9.5/10)
RG: 09 (9/10)
WIM: 05 (10/10)
US: 04 (9.5/10)

Wimbledon 2015 over of Wimbledon 2011 for Djokovic.
Wimbledon 2005 over Wimbledon 2007 and AO 2007 over AO 2009 for Federer.
