So in the theme of the olympics how fast do you think Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Delpo, at their peaks..:D:D:D

I keed I keed...Anyways how do you think it would go?

I think it's clear that Nadal and Murray would be the top 2 and Djokovic and Federer next but in what order? Do you think any of them could break 12 seconds? I don't know a ton about track.

Murray and Djokovic. Nadal would lead after 30-40 meters. Federer would get disqualified for moving too graciously.

"Um...hey Rog, you have to run, you can't float"

Nah but I think Nadal would win...people forget how fast the guy was circa 05-08. I think he has a slight advantage in both acceleration and top end speed over Murray.

Djokovic has never struck me as a really fast sprinter and he's not really built for it either. His court coverage is based more around insane agility and flexibility, particularly in flexibility which is where he leads the other 3 and all tennis players besides like Scricaphan. Peak Fed might have been slightly faster in a straight sprint. Maybe I'm wrong.

Murray will win it hands down. I read somewhere that Murray has this record of fastest 100 meters in mens tennis but that was some 2 years ago.

So, who takes the dash on rollerskates? If Fed was the first to bring "wheeled" shoes to the hardcourts, does he win by default? Djok's sliding prowess might be worth something.

Good high school runners can run 100 meters in under 11 seconds. For instance, here are the results from the Kansas state 4A track meet:

4A Boys 100 Meter Dash (Finals)
    1) Jafar Armstrong, Bishop Miege (10.83)
    2) Denvoir Griffin, Bishop Miege (10.97)
    3) Dannerick Yates, Parsons (10.99)

I think Nadal and Murray could probably run in the 10.7 range with some minimal training.

I always go back to Top Spin. :p Yes, I know it isn't real.

I'd have to fancy Nadal to win. Maybe not now, but if we assume this race takes place at their 100m prime. Not sure about the other places in the race.

I think with decent training it would be something like:

    1. Murray
    2. Usain Bolt
    3. Nadal
    4. Djokovic
    5. Federer

As a comparison, here are top 100 meter times by footballers/soccer players. Number 7 is at 10.8 seconds. Two guys are tied at number 5, with 10.6 seconds. #4 is at 10.5 seconds.

We've had this thread before, I recall.

    http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/inde...er-nadal-djokovic-murray.521876/#post-8977197

I say the same now that I said back then:

And yea, I'm thinking Noel and Fred in the last spots, but no idea of which order. I generally perceive Fed as the more fast-twitch guy of the two, but I also perceive him as lazier, lol.

Edit: and Monfils would wrek face against the tour. No joke, he was the French junior champ at age 13 and 14 and only opted out of pursuing it professionally because of his love of tennis (made the wrong choice Gael, lol). Supposedly his athletics coach claims he was talented enough to be able to make an olympics final.

do you really think Murray has more top end speed than Nadal? Nadal I'm sure probably has better acceleration.

I feel like Federer has absolutely ridiculous reaction times. There's just something about his footwork too that's so efficient and easy and his ability to hit and time the ball perfectly without his feet set. Don't really know what it is. Fed I feel like was just born to play tennis, the other 3 would have more success in other sports in general, although I think Fed would be the best baseball player of the 4.

It would be like 0.001sec between Djok and Fed (Murray and Nadal thick legs don't suit to sprint)

Nadal would clearly be the best soccer player...I could see Djokovic playing hockey and Murray maybe football. Djokovic would probably be a great swimmer too.

Ohh come on now..... Nadal/Murray/Nole will be faster than 10.5 at peak..... Usain Peak is 9.58.... they probably have a 10.3 personal best or something at their peak..... Now some might not break within 11 seconds lol.

Yeah, I think the anticipation piece of it plays a big role too. Not sure how you'd quantify it exactly. I've been wondering how you categorize that ability to perfectly gauge distance, etc. (e.g., to time runs and swings perfectly for a given point in space).

I just honestly rate Murray higher in terms of straight line sprinting. What makes Nadal so unparalleled to me is his agility and ability to make insane twists and turns and change direction — he excels at all of those very tennis-specific movement skills. Nadal also arguably produces higher quality shots than anyone else when he reaches the difficult balls. While some other players might be able to reach the same balls, he pulls out some impossible passing shot when he gets there.

But just in terms of top speed I'd argue Murray reaches higher speed even in the 10m sprints on a tennis court, and I think on a 100m it would just be more pronounced. With Monfils even more so obviously.

Then again, I could just be spectacularly wrong and deceived by the tree-trunk thighs of the dour Scot.

yeah that is exactly what I mean for Fed...his footwork just blows the mind with how natural and efficient it is. Nadal probably has the quickest feet of the 4 but he actually runs around his forehand while fed just glides around it.

Here are the top times at the Pac-12 track & field championships for 2016:

    1 Lewis, Reggie AZST 10.38
    2 Jackson, Adoree USC 10.44
    3 Allen, Devon UO 10.48
    4 Underwood, Isiah AZST 10.49
    5 Powell, Leon UCLA 10.59
    6 Walker, Kenny UCLA 10.66
    7 Muhammad, Khalfani CAL 10.67

This is the cream of the crop for college runners, who have been training/running 100 meters for years.

well for Monfils we actually have data that suggests if he had trained vigorously he could have approached an olympic caliber sprinter.

The other guys it is not as clear. Murray and Nadal are clearly faster than the other 2 but man it seems hard to believe that Murray would be faster than young rafa. Guy was such an animal and his feet were so quick. Possible though, Murray can fly.

At the risk of sounding (more?) fanboi - Murray had the opportunity to join Glasgow Rangers as a 15 year old but chose to focus on tennis.

You're probably correct. Although this thread is about the BIG 4, so your point isn't relevant to this particular discussion.

But even if you expanded it to the entire ATP (anybody with at least one point), I'm not even sure that Monfils would be the fastest person in the ATP. Not out of a couple thousand tennis players worldwide.

    Are they really that quick?

I think Murray would be quicker than Nadal, mostly because his physique seems more suited to 100m sprinting than Nadal's. I have doubts Djokovic would beat peak Federer

Maybe I just have a really overrated view of what times are good in a sprint. I seem to remember a German football player who could do 10.8 and he was supposedly super fast. Or it was 10.38, I don't know anymore. He played for the German footbal team like 8 years ago??

Andy Murray, scorer of a hat trick in the first old firm premier league derby in years. Good job he went with Tennis or he would have been playing at challenger level for a few seasons.

Well, let's put it into perspective. At the professional level, running a 10.2 is slow in the 100m dash. Deion Sanders ran a 10.26.

All seriousness though, which do you think was the better financial decision? Would say he's a millionaire from tennis... but aside from a handful of sprinting legends, I'm guessing it doesn't happen. Would he have been Usain Bolt level?

That might be David Odonkor. In the article I linked, he was ranked as the 5th fastest footballer, with a fastest 100m time of 10.6 seconds.
