Big Hitter Silver Rough?

BagelMe

Semi-Pro
There have been a lot of threads recently raving the big hitter blue rough. However, people have described this string as soft and pocketing-certainly not good for those who like to go low tensions on a 18*20 string pattern.
I use moderate topspin and have a fast swing on both wings (fh and bh).

I'm wondering how Silver rough compares to Blue rough. Is it stiffer and more control oriented? How does it compare to ALU rough?

Thanks!

I haven't tried Big Hitter Silver Rough, but I have used both BHB and Silver.

Obviously, BHB is raved one of the softest co-polys, and the best bang for the buck on the boards. And it totally is! For $8, this string really outplays itself. Soft, powerful, pocketing, spin, everything! Very similar to Pro Hurricane, but a fraction of the price.

Big Hitter Silver is similar. It has less power, so it's more control-oriented. It's not as soft of BHB, but still comfortable for a co-poly. If I can compare it to something, maybe a softer version of Luxilon Alu.

I just got some Silver Rough and will play with it Sunday. I'll post my thought comparing it to Blue Rough. I can't compare it to Alu Rough since I've never tried it.

I already pulled the trigger and bought some packs of BHBR 17....I hope it lives up to its reputation. Maybe I'll buy a reel next time. :D

BTW, ALU rough is probably the best string.....for the first 4 hours. Then everything is downhill from there.

That's the advantage of Big Hitter Silver! It holds tension REALLY well, especially for the price!

Agreed. I think ALU is better when fresh, but for the money I'll stick with Big Hitter Silver. However, the wonderful thing about Big Hitter Silver is that for daily hitting, it plays great, but if you have a big match, you can put in ALU with no adjustment. It plays just like BH Silver, but better, just for twice the price and for half as long. I play BH Silver for daily play, and ALU for tournaments (which are a rarity for me). For me, it's a bonus that my tournament string is better than my normal string. I go into tournament matches feeling like I'm still comfortable and don't have to adjust to something new, but somehow I've got magic in my racquet. What could be a better feeling going into a big match?

I had some arm problems so now i go really low with polys. I tried a full bed of Big Hitter Silver Rough at 48, which for me is really low, and it played great, awesome spin with very good control. Usually when I string in the 40's control is an issue. One of my fav polys, Lux M2 Pro, doesn't work at all for me at 48, but hurts my arm in the mid 50's.

The more I play both BHBR and BHSR I'm liking the Silver better. Most recently I strung the 107 Warrior down to 41# and it responded very well.

In terms of comfort, both are pretty good. I just find the Silver more responsive to spin and better control, even at lower tension.

I'm curious if others find Silver Rough better than Blue Rough as well.

Is it a matter of personal feel preference? Some people prefer the crisp feeling of Lux vs. soft feeling of NXT, or vice versa.

On a side note how is Klippermate as a stringing machine? Does it do what it is supposed to and accurately? How long does it take for you to string your racket?

^I've had to resort to using my friend's klippermate before and let me just tell you-its a pain the @$$. I personally HATE flying clamp, but other than that its a fine machine for the $.

I believe it's a matter of personal preference. I've never used Lux, but BHSR is crisp but not stiff. BHBR has a softer feel, but some might feel it's too mushy. I like the feel of both, but now preferring the Silver.

The Klippermate is awesome. Once it's set up and the strings are out of the old racquet, I can usually get a string job done in about 35 minutes. I find it to be very accurate. I would string one racquet on my Klippermate and the other using the same string and tension at my club's shop with the top of the line Gamma machine. Using the Tourna stringmeter, both were nearly identical in stringbed tension.

As many will tell you, once you get a stringer, you feel "free" from depending on others to meet your timeframe.

I have played with both BHBR (Blue) and BHSR (Silver) at 51lbs full on my PT280s and I would have to say that I prefer the BHSR.

The spin is absolutely insane with Blue but that is about the only thing I liked about it. It got too mushy for me. Power was pretty good as well.

With the Silver, I feel I get more control and a useable amount of power. It just feels right when I hit the ball with Silver, it's kind of hard to describe.
