give some credit to Nestor. He was a potential top 20 player that decided to focus on doubles (much to his success) but has an awesome serve as well. Canadians by nature have a big serve because we play on fast indoor courts. It serves our games well.
Daniel Nestor happens to have the biggest serve I ever tried to return...and on an indoor court at that....it was murderous, and his 6'5 lanky frame really unloaded into it in his prime. In subsequent years it slowed down, (75% by his own admission) due to severe shoulder injuries...forcing him to adopt different serve strategies.
My total failure, was somewhat consoled by watching a Davis cup opponent swing and MISS both on a few first serves, and a second serve (though Nestor was told to go ALL OUT on the 2nd serve, double faults be damned). He was blazing the first serve at well over 130mph, and he was hitting SOME second serves around 115-120...with surprisingly few faults.
Nestor, Rusedski...and others....even lesser known players like Niemeyer who can also go well into the 130's, make Canada able to match just about any country....probably even Croatia, for serving...it's the rest of the game that is a bit of a problem!
