Bigger disgrace to Aussie tennis: Kyrgios or Tomic?

Who is the bigger disgrace to Aussie tennis?

As we know, Aussie tennis has a rich history of honourable, never-say-die champions such as Sedgman, Hoad, Rosewall, Laver, Newcombe, Rafter and (despite his early tempestuousness) Hewitt.

Sadly, this great tennis nation is currently represented in the men's game by two spoilt, petulant Gen Y brats.

But my question is, who is the bigger disgrace to the fine traditions of Aussie tennis?

Discuss.

Kygrios since he actualy has real talent and wasted talent is the greatest cardinal sin of all. Especialy probably being the only player born in 1990-1996 who has any significant talent, thus further contributing to the wasteland couple generations. Tomic is a disgrace in numerous ways but at the pro level standards he has no real significant talent atleast.

Tomic by far. At least Nick has put in some effort into a sport that he clearly doesn't love, taking down the big 3 at least once each in his short career so far. Tomic has somehow become rich enough to not care anymore without actually winning anything or beating anyone of significance. He's also on the verge of dropping out of relevance and the main draws of major tournaments, whilst Kyrgios is still in the top 25 and will start climbing again when he returns to full fitness.

Well, to be fair, Tomic did beat Soderling at Wimb in 2011 when Soderling was still a top player.

That was because Tomic was still a baby then. Hadn't learned to tank properly at the time, but he's much improved in that respect, now. No way he makes the same mistake today, he'd lose comfortably to Söderling, even with Robin not being a pro player anymore. :D

Whatever the case is I'm thrilled Kokkinakis is healthy and playing well in Los Cabos.

I would have thought TK would be the first of the 3 to leave the sport but it looks like he may bump both and have more success.

At least Hewitt got results when nobody liked him. I think that made Hewitt even stronger mentally, everyone being against him. He liked playing the bad guy, in fact I think he thrived on it.

Although slam winners come and go, you won't get a champion quite like Hewitt for a long time.

Tomic has shown dedication to tennis for a period to be fair, cracking the top 20 and having decent results, despite never replicating his first and only QF run.

Kyrgios has the talent to make it quite far in tennis but lacks any dedication at all. If he did what Tomic did he would be deep within the top 10 challenging for majors.

It usually takes a sad event for people to say "puts things in perspective" and " it's just a game". I don't care for him, but admire his attitude.

Kyrgios will win major if he gets his body right plus gets coach but Tomic should retire or go play in the WTA

Tomic the tank engine isn't talented he's just average player who should find another job as a con man since he's canned everyone into believing he's a real tennis player hahahaha

Tomic is far worse than Kyrgios.

Hewitt had a brilliant winning mentality from the moment he began in tennis.

Never more so than at the 2001 US Open. That crazy "racism" storm going on around him, and he wins the tournament, with dominant semi final and final wins on top. Hewitt's attitude then to everyone was "You're either with me, or you're against me", and those against him were regarded as enemies to be defeated, more people for Hewitt to fight against.

It all depends on what each person considers to be worse.

If we talk only about who has disrespected the sport more, the obvious answer is probably Tomic. He has shown a lack of passion and dedication pretty much his entire career (except for a brief period in early 2016), he tanks matches and is only here for the money. Personally, I find his motives to stay a little more respectable and less superficial than those of Nick (to be famous ), but at least Nick tries harder and is less cynical in his approach.

Now, if we talk about who disrespects people more, Nick is that guy. With Tomic you know what you are gonna get, with Nick however there are times when he plays really well, he has a couple of brilliant matches and makes all of us believe he's on the right path and then, in the middle of his new found focus, he tanks and that pisses many people off, especially those who bought tickets. There is also his incident with Stan in the locker room, a obvious product of his horrible comments on Vekic (I'm still trying to understand what the hell he was thinking about while saying it), and his multiple tantrums on court, in which he unleashes his frustration against umpires, crowd and even ball boys/girls.

Both are ugly representatives of this sport, but my vote goes with Kyrgios. Many people tend to be more lenient with him just because his game is more 'entertaining', but the impact he has had is bigger and the image he gives to the sport is worse than what Tomic has done.

Good question, where to start on these guys...

They both are tanking, disrespectful spoiled brats, but Nick at least has some redeeming attributes. Despite his rudeness in interviews and on the court, he seems like a good guy and pretty well liked by his peers. He's good with kids. When he's not being rude in interviews, he's a pretty funny guy. He's also an actually good player, with numerous wins over the top 3.

Tomic on the other hand isn't really good for anything. No personality, and has he ever even taken a set off of one of the big 4?

Also in terms of Aussie tennis, Nick has won much more Davis Cup matches. Wasn't Tomic even banned from the team at one point?

Here's an interesting interview with Tomic the Tank

Be warned: He's not very complimentary of an Aussie legend, Pat Rafter....

Both equally trash in different ways

Cant wait for them to disappear from the game. Luckily Tomic is almost out of the rankings sitting down there at 94 and going to drop further so we wont have to see his face anymore in anything significant

Both are big headcases, but I'd pick Tomic based on his latest controversy and for his lack of results over the years. That's not to say Kyrgios is any better as far as attitude goes, but he's had some good performances over the years and a few decent runs which Tomic simply never had.

Tomic by far. Nick has insane talent and if he ever gets his head together, could win a major. Bernie will never come close to even winning a Masters 1000, never mind a major. The most entertaining match by far this year was Fed-Nick in Miami, where NK proved he can play seriously good ball against a guy dominating the field this year.

Tennis Australia is the real embarrassment. Instead of trying to uphold the very minimal standard that players have an obligation to play to win on court, they "reach out" to "Bernie" and "Nick" after each tanking based implosion. They should have cut both adrift until either/both went 12 months without a tank or withdrawal due to fictitious injury. Too much support for either to see any need to really change.

Tomic. Nick has had periods this year where he tried.

It's amazing how low the bar can be set. "Nick has had periods this year where he tried." The normal minimum standard is to try all the time. Kyrgios gets credit because he actually tried for a few weeks in March.

If those are the standards to classify someone as a good guy, then Tomic is a pretty good one as well. Plenty of players have said he's nice, he seems chill and kinda funny in his interviews and he cares about his young fans, he even pulled over once and let a little boy get into his Ferrari to take pictures with him and some autographs. I thought this thread was about the bad things they've done not the positive ones.

Tomic is an idiot, but when playing for Australia he has shown a good level. His Davis Cup record is 17-4, Kyrgios' record is 7-4. He was banned for the comments he made against Rafter and other TA members for the lack of support his sister was receiving. Plus, I've never seen him tanking during a tie, at least he has the decency of not taking part of it at all, unlike Nick, who tanked in the 2015 tie against Kazakhstan and was dumped from the team because of it.

now this is some serious debate... there's a fierce competition going on between those 2 legends!
each time you think one of them took an unassaultable lead by outdoùchebagging the other... the other one strikes back with some unprecedented tanking or an unexpected surprise.

really thrilling :)

Tomic took a set off Djokovic at 2011 Wimb.

i'd say nick, he retired 3 matches in a row..who ever did that before ?. and nick has more potential, so a bigger waste.

tomic is only in it for the money, its just a job to him..as much as we don't like to hear it.

so tomic see's it as some sort of weird 9-5 clock on-clock off job. a lot of folk have jobs they don't like, he is one of those.

yeah and I don't think Tomic has won two matches in a row in two years :)

Try getting some facts before posting. Count the number of consecutive wins below (I have bolded a few of them in case you have a problem):

2016: First ATP 500 final, Masters 1000 quarterfinal[edit]

exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally.

I realize you don't speak English as your first language most likely, so I'll give you a hall pass. However, a visual clue may have been the emoticon :) which is clearly visible at the end of the post. Given your track record of ridiculous posts I'm not entirely surprised at this latest miss.
