Biggest chokes?

Played tennis today and was losing 6-2 5-1. Somehow managed to save an MP and turn it round to take it 6-2 5-7 4-6( cue slightly unnecessary nadal wimby 08 celebration at the end ;) yo, i'm still pretty young ). No idea how i did it though.. he collapsed mentally and choked.

My opponent (with whom I regularly play against) is pretty mentally strong. Many times he's fought back against my leads and beaten me, which I guess is why I found today so surprising.

So guys, what have been your biggest chokes? There was a time last year I was actually 6-0 5-2 (40-15) up to the same guy and ended up losing... took a few good days to get over that. My record for wasting MP's is 7 :(. And what have been your best comebacks? 8)

14??? I actually hope that's a joke, I would probably do a Youzhny.

The most match points I've saved (and then gone on to win the match) is 9. My opponent didn't really choke, but he was less agressive than he should have been and was maybe waiting for me to make errors. I was going for my shots and was probably a bit lucky not to make an error on any of those match points.

The most match points I've wasted on route to losing a match is probably 4 or 5.

7.0 mixed in a tournament last year. Was up 9-1 in a match tiebreak and managed to lose 11-9. :( Including a shoulder high sitter at the net that I somehow managed to bury in the bottom of the net.

by far my worse choke:

i was up 6-4, 5-1 against my regular hitting partner (a real pusher/grinder) ... it was 40 - 0 and i choked two points to 40 - 30 before closing out the match with a drop shot winner.

I was up 5-0 in the second set last year and ended up losing the set and the match 5-7. That was annoying as hell.

Those are the worst, when you miss what should have been a bunny.

This is so eerily close to my experience. I also lost in a super-tiebreak after being up 9-1 which also included a high forehand sitter volley which I missed badly. I was playing singles though and I eventually lost 13-11.

I got up 5-0 against a guy, and im pretty sure i got up 40-0the next 4 games and lost them all. then 40-0 at 5-4, went to duece, and then I finally closed it out 6-4. I would be really ticked had i lost.

I've lost a set after being up 5-0. I had several set points in various games but my opponent ended up taking 6 games in a row to be up 6-5, I held for 6-6, but then lost in the TB.

I don't really count it as a choke though because I ended up taking the 2nd and 3rd sets to win the match.

I had a challenge match in HS where I was losing 1-6 1-5 and came back to win the 2nd set 7-5 when it got dark and we had to quit. The next day, I was winning 6-0 5-1 when HE came back and took the second set 7-6. On the third day, I won 7-6 7-5, so the final score of the whole 3 day challenge was 1-6, 7-5, 6-0, 6-7, 7-6, 7-5.

By no means is this my worst choke, but since it happened to day it is by far my most memorable one.

I won the first set 6-4 relatively easily but should have won 6-2 but choked a couple of games. I was serving at 5-4 in the second set when there was a questionable call followed by a disagreement over a let due to a ball in the court. I had a partial mental breakdown and ended up losing that set 7-6, and a tie-breaker for the 3rd set. I only choked on 2 match points but one of them was over-hitting on a second serve return which I really really should know better then.

not that bad

USTA State Tourney Semi's. Dubs lines are done, we are down 2-1. Both singles matches still going in 3rd set TB's. I'm down 6-9 in 10 pt TB, I win 11-9, other singles line wins and we move to finals. This season, down 6-0 in 2nd set TB, lost 1st set, win TB 8-6. Man those guys were mad, :).
