The ATP, trying to maintain their momentum from the Big 3 era, artificially hyped up a group of young players, calling them "NextGen" as the next wave of tennis greats. In attempting to annoint these players before they had done anything, they created their own nightmare of high expectations, which have gone unmet, and the "NextGen" term has become a mockery.
Does anyone think this marketing hype has substantively hurt these players in terms of growth/development? Or would results be the same regardless of whether "NextGen" had ever been coined?
