Bio 300 for a beginner??

Yeah, I dunno either. Here's the thing, I have 4 kids, three of which play pretty decent tennis and have done so since they were little. Then there is the black sheep
(he prefers 'Dark Prince', but then, he is a 15 year old boy)

He plays Soccer, and, erm, the Euphonium and the Bass guitar...

Anyway, he has expressed a desire to start Tennis. He is very realistic and has no expectations at all, just wants to be able to come and have a hit with the rest of us every now and then.
I am following my usual practice of sending him to another coach (I won't coach my own kids).

Anyway, I was originally going to give him some cheap lighweight stick to start off with when it dawned on me that my unused dunlop 300s are a nice weight and balance for a beginner. So...

I have no idea how this will work out, but it will be interesting to see.

Any thoughts? (He's a strong, fit kid but his hand/eye isn't as good as his brothers)

My 21 yr old daughter likes tennis,..was out with me demoing my sticks earlier this spring.
Out of several sticks, she took to the Bab PSL the most,..really liked it (low swingweight i suspect).

Point is I think the Bio 300 would be a fine stick for your son. I really like the Bio 300 Tour,...and that low swingweight would be an easy entry point for him with a quality stick.
Just my 2cents. :)

I started the game green with a few 300G's, but my circumstances were different. I was 31, and tennis was perhaps the only sport besides soccer that I hadn't played.

I personally think it's a great choice. You could find more forgiving options for your son, as it is a control-oriented frame, but it has adequate pop and sublime feel. It also encourages, maybe even demands, the development of an all-court game. And perhaps best of all, you can mod a Dunlop 300 as light or heavy as you desire, and it works out very well.

I demoed the Bio. 300 earlier in the Summer, and I liked it enough to switch back. In the end I didn't, but this new Bio. 300 is the best iteration in the line yet, imo.

Yes, I really liked mine, I switched to the 200 for a bit more plow and crunch, but my hope is he won't need another racquet as he progresses (ie, I'm cheap!)

Yes, Bio 300 is fine for beginner and can last up thru advanced level with a little customization. I demo-ed bio 300, and 4d 300 as well as several other 11 oz rackets. Bought volkl o295 but bio 300 was 2nd.

Bio 300 has slighter longer mains than other 11 oz rackets I demo-ed which gives it a bit more pop. Kind of like an OS racket in a mid+ package. Mid tension and your son should be fine with the bio 300.

Definitely. The racquets marketed to beginners would be too light for him, with too much free power. He'd have a hard time controlling the ball with full strokes that even a beginner of his age can hit, albeit inconsistently at first.

- User friendly - check
- Low injury proneness - check
- Good control - check
- Good feel which enhances stroke improvement - check
- And the most important feature of a racket for most beginners: good lookingness - CHECK

He doesn't need customization for heavier shots, power for intimidation, crazy spin to satisfy an addiction... so I think the Bio 300 will do just fine

well, thank you all.

He has had his first lesson and had a great time, so all good at this point!

Didn't hurt that we were at one of his brother's tournaments yesterday and he saw one of the top 18s in the country playing with a bio 300. Cred is HUGE when you are 15!
