Bitter Fed on Djokdal: “ “I hope they go and do everything they want. I really hope so.

From an interview today w the Associated Press:

“Referring to Nadal, who is 36 and is expected to be Federer’s doubles partner for his final match Friday, and Djokovic, who is 35, Federer said:

What I know is they are truly amazing and greats of the game and forever and will go down as one of the — maybe THE — greatest.”

When it comes to the pursuit of more Grand Slam titles by Nadal and Djokovic, he said:

…I hope they go and do everything they want. I really hope so. Because it would be great for the game and nice for their fans, for their family. As long as it makes them happy."

“…We made each other better. So at the end of the day, we’ll all shake hands and be like, ‘That was awesome.’

Absolute vile statements from the fraudster. Can’t believe he’s said this, my god. Nadal and Djokovic should sue for slander, horrific and disgusting words from Roger.

Plenty of people were assuring Federer and a whole his fanbase that Roger is the greatest for at least 12 long years in a row (2006-2018). It was so easy to believe that GOAThood will last forever.
16-6-1 advantage in a slam race against 23 years old rivals? Massive. It was looking impossible to lose.

But then Nadal and Djokovic have made big things.
And later Wimbledon 2019 has happened.
Becoming a third wheel after being at the top must hurt.
So let's be compassionate a bit at least.

Federer would be embarrassed to read some of the comments in here. Hell, even a guy like Kyrgios says "My career has been amazing" when people ask him if he is disappointed with his career so imagine how Federer feels. His life and career are beyond what he could have ever dreamed of as a 16yo playing juniors

Maybe I'm greedy, probably delusional but I wouldn't be happy with my career if I was Fed. Not if I had his talent.

A 20 time slam winner that should have easily have won 30 and be hands down GOAT with no one in his vicinity. No US Open after 2008? Huh? WTH!! 3 losses to Nadal at the AO? Hell he is lucky he didn't go 0-4 Against Nadal there. Then 0-3 his last 3 WIimbledon matches to Djokovic? Huh? To me that type of stuff is inexcusable If I am Fed. Nadal can own clay, but I'm not giving grass and hc slams if I can help it. Im not letting Djokovic run roughshot over me on grass either. My thinking I'm Fed, "You're never taking advantage of me on my playground surfaces. This is my turf"

Thats how you keep the slam records in your possession from your main rivals You own your playground. Never lose your turf to them and maybe steal 1-2 on theirs if you can. Thats how Pete operated

I would have been sitting in that EuroSport interview going , "Damn I blew alot of freaking matches" But whatever. I would be one bitter bastad if I had his talent and drop to 3rd wheel when my talents could have stopped it.

Does this means Federer and Sampras were never GOATs?
Rosewall held the record for most majors at 23 all along.
Our whole life has been a lie, Rafa and Novak still have to win some slams to cross Rosewall ?

p_0300_06_A1_009_o2.jpg

Basic marketing practices. Pete was American, Fed a neutral Swiss.

Selling Aussies globally is much harder. Plus Rosewall I believe was pretty meat and potatoes head down type athlete.

Just now saw the Laver Cup interview, Fed mentioned "Rafa, Novak, Myself, Andy and Stan ... we won most of the slams " ....

What an honor for Stan to be mentioned by Roger in this league, he must be elated after listing to the press conference.

A Swiss guy who plays like he’s on a French work week…..deserves to be mentioned in the same vein as Goddal?

be better Federer

what never changed in federers career are his super boring politically overcorrect statements and answers.
It is in Federer’s interest to big up Nadal and Djokovic as great players

the alternative explanation for their slam counts is that this is a title inflation era, which is obviously not good for his own narrative

Federer is the most decorated tennis player in the open era and his impact to the sport was enormous. Nadalovic will try their best to carry on the tradition. I don't see how they'll be able to do without Federer. No one can fill your shoes.

They do quite well without Federer for years. Federer is basically retired/not big factor for long time, now he will be top story one last time and that's it. He's no3 for eternity or until striped to no4 by some player. Rafa and Novak are about to decide No1 and No2 spots, interesting times are ahead of us.

Insane, as usual. Every person on this forum has zero achievements compared to Federer. So nobody here can actually tell you what it means to be that accomplished. Y’all just assume it means you are sad and bitter, because those are the only emotions some of you seem to know.

And Pete’s biggest rival was a meth-head playing with a style meant for courts that weren’t developed until 10 years later, not a GOAT candidate.

But it's true. There may be a huge gap between the Big 3 and Andy and Stan but the fact remains they are the only 5 players to win multiple Slams in the current era.

There does seem to be this weird investment in the idea of his lifelong misery.

Everyone on this board must have disappointments in their own life that they've had to come to terms with. Hopefully they don't sit around all day dwelling on them.

Like you said, Fed was already considered the greatest long before he actually had the slam record. He’s been considered GOAT by many right from when he was on 6-7 slams. So surely, there was more to his “GOAThood” than sheer numbers. As much as it rankles and confounds you, Fed is still considered GOAT by a large number of spectators, colleagues and experts. I know it’s hard for you to process but GOAThood was never about the slam race buddy. “Third wheel” my a** :-D

That's what I've enjoyed about all these tributes -the mean minded people who enjoy Djoko's and Nadal's achievements not because they love those players but because they want to "bring down" Federer in some mysterious way have completely failed. And deservedly.

Indeed, Federer allowed Nadal and Novak to win Wimbledon by beating him but Nadal never allowed Roger to win Clay beating him and neither did Novak allow Fed to beat him on Plexicushion.
Well, yeah, Fed didn't play Djokovic at Wimb in 7 of his best years. Djokovic played Fed at the AO in all his best years.

Nadal did allow Djokovic to beat him at RG.

TearTheRoofOff

G.O.A.T.
They made him better. He did not make them better because they were easily beating him.

They don't want to shake hands, only he does.

As usual, he is trying to force his way into their league but they don't need him there.
Absolutely. Fed inclined over his whole career and retired at the apex. Smart decision, because even his very best was sent out with a bagel.
