Where are ppl going to on this tension-wise?... what are ppls thoughts who've tried a few different tensions... wondering if I've come in too low now @ 47s on a Bab (frame to be returned from stringer this week.)

TIA

48 pounds in the mains with a crank machine on my Babolat PSTs (non GT). Works perfect for my game.

I have B5E at 48# mains/52# Mantis crosses strung on a Bab Star 5 machine. Frame: Prince Diablo MP 16*18.

This is some real bizarro string. Its almost organic the way it bends and shapes and how soft it is.

My first outing was a full job at 50# and I was thrown off by the feel. I've never strung below 56 and despite playing great the feel was awkward.

I then tried a hybrid with gosen in the crosses both at 55# and I quite liked it. Spin was better and power about the same HOWEVER, it was not as comfortable and I had some pain in the shoulder. I actually think the B5E is softer than the gosen.

Next job, full B5E at 52#.

I have had B5E strung at 53lbs for about 4 hours and it plays great so far. Time will tell if this is the case in another 4 hours.

Hi

I have it at 55lbs in an APD GT. It's my new string of choice over Black Code. It's not as durable but wins out in all other areas. Just.

Am planning to run one set of B5E as a cross with gut mains (Pacific Tgh Gut 16L) and wondered what you all thought about the tension for that setup. As stated above--using a Prince Diablo MP 16*18 100" frame and have one set up with B5E/MCS 48/52 and will be strung on Babolat Star 5 (which strings it up pretty tight).

Was thinking about going gut mains/B5E at 56/53? Thoughts

Ross you will be fine..sorry to cause anxiety. If it is a hair loose..next time, raise to around 52#s..it should be a real nice match for the stiffer APD..great string.

Hey PP,

No, not at all. I got a bit confused, I think, between BHBH, B5E, and different threads/posts saying you should string a lot lower than is 'the norm' (ie, @ 40s)... dear oh dear... LOL - too much time in the strings section drives you ga-ga!

Yeah..if you are going to experiment, it is way better to have a machine then pay every time. I did not tinker as much with strings when I was paying and waiting to get the racquets back.

I agree with you. The more I read the more confusing it seems to get. Some say string low others say no I string at my regular tension. I think I'll just stick with what I've been using and let the string alchemists experiment all they want. I don't have the time nor money to keep playing around like this.

stringing your own frees one to try strings/combos that might not be available otherwise. fortunate are the readers that can sift through the posted experiences and find reliable unbiased info.

Lower the tension the better IMO. I read something where Weisscannon is making their strings meant for 30s and 40s lbs now. I might use this string in my first venture below 50 lbs. Might try 45 or so

It seems like you now understand that there's an unspoken expression preceding all comments about someone's experience with a given string. That expression is "in my opinion...". Every now and then you'll find someone stating his/her experience as fact, but I think that's the exception rather than the rule.

Having said that, I love reading string reviews or the words of others relaying information about their experience with a particular string. If my curiousity gets the best of me, I'll pick up a set to give it a go. Sometimes my experience parallels that of others, and sometimes it's 180º out. But I never ever say, "boy, they were dead wrong about that string."

Ross..when do you get your Bab back? The pocketing of the B5e combined with the lower tension in that stick could really give you that feel you miss with the tweeners.

Let us know how the gut/b5e feels in comparison to b5e/mcs:)

Around Friday. Though I could leave it until the following week as there's a certain BC 30 I might want to check out first!:)
